Dubai's foreign trade grows as customs strengthens oversight
According to a statement by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director-General of Dubai Customs, said the emirate's commercial sector is growing in line with the economic objectives of Dubai's D33 Economic Agenda, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Dubai's trade network spans multiple countries, contributing to growth in foreign trade. Sea freight increased by 23 per cent, land freight by 21 per cent, and air freight by 11.3 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023.
Dubai Customs plays a role in supporting the emirate's economic vision, strengthening international trade ties, and enhancing efficiency through digital customs services.
The department saw 49.2 percent growth in customs data in 2024 compared to 2023. Its smart services have received global recognition as a benchmark in modern customs practices.
Dubai Customs conducted 3,273 seizures in 2024. The department completed 55 out of 84 initiatives, leading to a 5 per cent increase in handled cargo, an 8 per cent rise in passenger bags, and a 9 per cent increase in processed passengers.

GCC visitor spending jumps 28.9% since 2019 to reach $135.5 billion GCC countries have recorded progress across multiple tourism indicators, with international visitor spending reaching $135.5 billion in 2023. This figure represents a 28.9 percent increase compared to spending recorded in 2019. The region has secured the top position in the Middle East and North Africa's 2024 Safety and Security Index. All GCC member states scored above the regional average of 5.86 points on the index, which operates on a scale from 1 to 7 points. GCC countries have also achieved recognition for passport strength, with all six nations ranking among the top performers in the Arab region for passport power. The Centre's data highlights the tourism sector's growing contribution to the GCC economy, with visitor spending showing recovery and growth following the 2019 baseline period.

He emphasised the depth and distinction of bilateral relations, particularly on the economic and diplomatic statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), on the sidelines of the 'Vision Golfe 2025', organised by the French government at the headquarters of the Ministries of Economy and Finance in Paris, Minister Laurent Saint-Martin praised the exceptional momentum in the UAE-France partnership and called for elevating cooperation to new levels, especially in industry, renewable energy, digital economy, and innovation.'The UAE is undoubtedly a priority for France among Gulf nations,' said the minister. 'It is not only a key regional and economic force, but also a modern, dynamic development model that aligns with our vision for future international relations, rooted in innovation, sustainability, and openness.'He added that France seeks to strengthen partnerships with countries that share its strategic outlook and values, stating that the UAE stands out as an ideal partner in this economic ties, Minister Saint-Martin noted that France has maintained one of the oldest and most solid records of trade and investment relations with the UAE in the Gulf region.
