1,939 Nursing Officers selected in NORCET 2025; AIIMS Delhi fills 595 posts
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): AIIMS New Delhi conducted the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) 2025 for all AIIMS, including new AIIMS set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthyya Suraksha Yojna and other participating Central Government Hospitals under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said the ministry in an official release.
According to the release, a total of around 2,000 vacancies of Nursing Officers were advertised, including around 600 vacancies pertaining to AIIMS, New Delhi and 300 vacancies of AIIMS-CAPFIMS (Central Armed Forces Institute of Medical Sciences).
The results were declared in May 2025, out of 1,939 candidates selected 595 Nursing officers (NOs) have been selected for AIIMS, New Delhi and 288 NOs for AIIMS-CAPFIMS.
Recognizing the critical need for regular staffing in Hospitals, the NORCET examination--earlier conducted once a year--is now being held twice annually to ensure timely recruitment and uninterrupted patient care services. This policy shift aligns with the strategic planning of AIIMS and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, virtually addressed the first edition of the Conclave on 'Best Practices'
The two-day conclave was organised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur.
According to a release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the two-day Conclave seeks to showcase exemplary practices adopted by various AIIMS institutions, focusing on patient-centric care, operational efficiency, digital transformation, and academic excellence.
AIIMS institutes from across the country (AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Jammu, AIIMS Bilaspur, AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Nagpur, AIIMS Deoghar, AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Raipur) , along with the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) division and the Ministry of Defence, collaborated in the conclave. Union Health Secretary, Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, delivered the opening address at the event.
In his address, underlining the significance of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, Union Minister JP Nadda stated that 'each AIIMS, established as an Institute of National Importance, integrates advanced clinical care, high-quality medical education and research excellence. Strategically located to address regional disparities, every AIIMS serves as a Centre of healthcare innovation and learning, delivering equitable, affordable and evidence-based healthcare services. These institutions reflect the Government's commitment to strengthening public health systems, raising standards of care and nurturing a new generation of healthcare leaders.' (ANI)

Home grown less than 50 rupees' test aiding fight against Sickle Cell Disease
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Sickle Cell Disease, a genetic blood disorder, leads to severe health complications such as anaemia, frequent pain episodes and other debilitating symptoms, affecting millions worldwide, especially in India and Africa. According to Dr Prabhakar Kedar, Scientist F, ICMR- CRMCH, Chandrapur India has indigenous validated 35 company kits and 23 kits with 100 % accuracy and low cost for Sickle Cell Anaemia detection, 'we have validated so far 35 company kits and 23 have shown 100 per cent sensitivity and 12 kits 95 per cent sensitivity.' The sample collection is done from a finger prick mixed with buffer solution, and results are obtained in a few minutes. 'A drop of capillary blood (usually from a finger prick) is collected. 2. The blood is mixed with buffer solution and placed on the test strip or cassette, 3. Reaction: The test uses antibodies to detect different haemoglobin variants (HbA, HbS and control band).' He explained 'Colored lines appear on the strip within 10 minutes to indicate the presence of normal haemoglobin (HbA), sickle haemoglobin (HbS), and control band.' He said. On utilisation of these kits, he said 2 kits per month are used, and for each kit we use 50 Sickle homozygous blood samples, 50 heterozygous and 50 normal blood samples.' 'We used blood samples, which were first confirmed by the HPLC method, which is the gold standard for diagnosing sickle cell anaemia, ' he said. To support the fight against Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), two centres- ICMR-NIIH in Mumbai and CRMCH in Chandrapur, have been officially chosen by the government to test and approve new diagnostic kits. 'ICMR NIRRCH, along with PGI Chandigarh and ICMR-NIIH, conducted a comprehensive assessment and determined that point-of-care tests for Sickle Cell Disease/Trait among the high-risk population in India would be cost-effective if procured at INR 100 per test or below. Following the HTA recommendation, the National Health Mission instructed state health departments to procure the diagnostic kits at a maximum price of INR 100 per test. Through public tendering, the competitive procurement process drove the price of the kits down to INR 82 per test, significantly below the initial quote, resulting in a saving of Rs 1,857 crores. Subsequently, ICMR-NIIH has validated new kits, and further to it, the manufacturer has agreed to sell the kits at INR 50 per test,' states ICMR-CRMCH. These efforts are a big boost for the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission, which aims to eliminate the disease from India by 2047. (ANI)

Indian High Commission celebrates International Day of Yoga in Dhaka
Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 21 (ANI): High Commission of India celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on Saturday in Dhaka. Speaking on the occasion, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma noted that Yoga has become a way of life for millions around the world, with Yoga connecting them across borders, cultures and beliefs. High Commissioner said that Yoga's universality was captured in this year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' which symbolized Yoga's role as a connector between individual wellness and global sustainability. He noted, 'As we commemorate this year's International Day of Yoga, we are reminded of the enduring bonds of cultural affinity between our two countries, their strong historical and people-to-people ties, and their relationship founded on the shared sacrifices during Bangladesh's Liberation War of 1971'. High Commissioner hoped that Yoga will be yet another unifying bond between the peoples of the two countries in their shared pursuit of wellness and harmony. In her remarks, Director of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre Ann Mary George said that this was the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. It was in September 2014 that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi proposed declaring an International Day of Yoga during his address at the United Nations General Assembly. Soon afterwards, in December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly, by consensus, declared June 21 to be celebrated as the International Day of Yoga every year. The event included participation by a large number of Yoga enthusiasts fromBangladesh who participated in a practice session based on the Common Yoga Protocol. Many prominent Yoga institutions of Bangladesh also presented Yoga demonstrations highlighting the benefits of Yoga. Senior Yoga practitioners over the age of 70 were felicitated at the event. Besides Yoga enthusiasts and institutions, the event was attended by a number of eminent cultural personalities, artists, media persons, professionals, scholars and youths of Bangladesh. (ANI)

All India Institute of Ayurveda commemorates 11th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Delhi, under the aegis of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, commemorated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm and participation at Kendriya Vidyalaya, NTPC, New Delhi Themed 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' the event was titled Yoga Sangam, symbolizing the unifying power of yoga for holistic well-being, a press release said. Hitesh Shankar, current editor-in-chief of Panchjanya was the Chief Guest; Akhileshwar Jha, Principal K V School was the special Guest for the celebrations. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manjusha Rajagopala. Director I/C AIIA; Prof (Dr) Mahesh Vyas, Dean Ph.D; Prof.(Dr.) Yogesh Badwe, Dean PG; Dr M M Rao, M.S, AIIA; Dr Shiv Kr. In another event, the All India Institute of Ayurveda along with Supreme Court of India organised a special yoga session at the premises of the Supreme Court today. Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and Judges of the Supreme Court along with the Director (I/C) AIIA Prof. (Dr.) Manjusha Rajagopala and AIIA staff participated the event. The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, commemorated the International Day of Yoga (IDY) with great enthusiasm and participation at the Indoor Stadium, Sports Authority of Goa Complex, Peddem, Mapusa along with hundreds of participants. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr Geeta Suresh Nagvenkar, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa. The session was presided over by Prof. Dr Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa.
