Wrexham boss sends final four-word message to players ahead of Ryan Reynolds' annual tradition

Daily Mirror05-05-2025

Wrexham will play in the Championship next season after sealing a third successive promotion and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney plan to help the squad celebrate in style
As Wrexham prepare for their annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas to toast yet another promotion, Phil Parkinson had one simple request for his players: "Just come back alive."
As they have in recent years, Wrexham's squad will jet off to the United States to celebrate in style courtesy of their co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The duo have now overseen three successive promotions, with Wrexham now just one level below the Premier League after finishing second in League One this term.

Wrexham's previous trips to Sin City have sparked a major buzz online. McElhenney vowed at the start of the season that he and his partner would deliver another trip to remember should Wrexham go up again - even if Reynolds was less keen.

"I just got back from Las Vegas where we did it for the second time and if they get promoted again, we promised them that they will be sent to Vegas again," the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia star said.
He added: "Much to chagrin of my co-chairman. So if you see Ryan, I don't know if Ryan has come by yet but he is going to say no and I am going to say yes."
Paul Mullin confirmed to GQ back in May 2023 that not only did Reynolds and McElhenney arrange the jaunt, but they also footed the bill for the entire squad. He explained: "It became a thing where if we won the league, we'd get a holiday. So we're off to Vegas.

"Ryan and Rob told us to leave our cards at home, they're sorting the lot. They sent us a full itinerary just now."

While the players have been given the green light to embrace the carnage of Las Vegas to celebrate their exploits this season, Parkinson will be waiting for them upon their return as he plots for life in the Championship.
He paid tribute to his players after watching them go the final 10 games of the season unbeaten to seal a spot in the second tier. "In the last few weeks players stood tall, shoulders back, saying 'this is what it's all about'. That's what you've got to be to play for Wrexham because there's big expectations, a lot of spotlight on us and you have to handle that."

Alexander Isak's stance on Liverpool transfer revealed with huge new fee set

Liverpool have not made any approach to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United with the striker not expected to demand an exit this summer. The Premier League champions have moved swiftly and decisively in the summer transfer window, immediately bringing in a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in Jeremie Frimpong with Milos Kerkez expected to arrive from Bournemouth. Florian Wirtz sealed his move to Anfield on Friday night in the biggest deal in Premier League history, arriving for a fee that could rise to £116million. Liverpool's spending might not end there. With Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez possibly leaving Merseyside, a centre forward to lead Arne Slot's attack could be sought. His side have been linked with a sensational move for Isak, whose current contract at St James' Park expires in 2028. But despite growing speculation, the Daily Telegraph report Isak is settled on Tyneside and is not agitating for a move away this summer. There is no expectation that situation will change in the coming months with Newcastle under no pressure from profitability and sustainability rules to sell anyone as things currently stand. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Sweden international but have given up hope of luring him to the Emirates after being quoted at least £150million last year. The report suggests Newcastle's valuation has only grown, claiming it would take a fee closer to £200m to prise him away – one close to the price Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona eight years ago. Liverpool have made no contact with Newcastle at this stage – not even an informal enquiry. Isak scored 23 Premier League goals and 27 in all competitions as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup secured Champions League qualification last season. More Trending With European football back on the menu, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is convinced his side's leading man is going nowhere. 'Got to keep him and they will, I'm pretty certain of that,' Shearer said on The Rest is Football. 'Because of their success this year, because they've got Champions League football, all of those things. 'There's not a worry in my mind that he's going anywhere. He'll be a Newcastle player next season because he's a very, very, very good player.' Forster so pleased with North Wales Crusaders' defence

Crusaders fell behind during their huge home clash in League One, but they successfully turned things around to record a notable 14-4 triumph at Colwyn Bay's Stadiwm CSM. Not for the first time this season, league leaders Cru managed to shut-out their opponents during one half and this left head coach Forster extremely pleased. He told CruCast: "I thought for grit and determination, it was our best defensive display of the year. "I think we could have been a lot better in the first half with our hit-and-stick and we were over-chasing on edges, just going past the ball and they kept trying to get us back on the inside. "To be fair, we spoke about that at half-time and I thought the way the boys rectified it in the second half was outstanding. "Apart from the actual try they did score... I don't think Midlands looked like scoring and to do that against second in the league, just, you know, speaks volumes just of our lads turning up for each other and defending for each other." North Wales now have to play the waiting game prior to their return to action. This will be on July 6 when Crusaders play host to Workington.

Marcus Rashford issues Barcelona come-and-get-me plea in clear hint over future

Marcus Rashford has been tight-lipped on his uncertain future so far this summer but now the Manchester United star has broken his silence, hinting at a dream move to Barcelona Marcus Rashford has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to join Barcelona. The Manchester United star, 27, appears to have no future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim and being loaned out for the second half of last season. Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was seen meeting Barca sporting director Deco in Catalunya last month. The England international joined Aston Villa on loan in January but the Premier League club look to have seemingly decided against exercising their option to sign him for £40million. ‌ That's the fee which United are continuing to hold out for and if no buyer is found, he'll return to United for pre-season training and their subsequent tour of the United States. But if Barcelona can work out a deal, Rashford has already given them the green light. ‌ Speaking while on holiday in Marbella, Rashford was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he wants to play with Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future. "Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best," the forward replied. "So hopefully, we'll see..." Continuing to praise Yamal, Rashford said: (Yamal) is gonna be… it's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing it at 16, 17. He's playing at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it. To have his mentality is a skill. "He's not normal to be doing what he does and he will keep improving. (The Ballon d'Or) If you look at it in football ability he has to win, but then you look at Ousmane Dembele, the Champions League." The 27-year-old then sent a message to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, suggesting that he can be Robert Lewandowski's long-term successor up front. "For me as I've got older, the No.9 position is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford added. Would Marcus Rashford be a success at Barcelona? Give us your prediction in the comments section. ‌ Barca fans will also be take note of his comments about life in Spain. "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home," he continued. "If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather." Rashford also revealed how he looked up to former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry during his childhood. He explained: "Henry was comfortable playing off the left and in the middle, he's free flowing. When I was young I always enjoyed watching clips of him." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
