Melania Trump Chooses Dolce & Gabbana Trenchcoat for White House Departure for Pope's Funeral

Yahoo25-04-2025

WHEN IN ROME: En route to Joint Base Andrews to fly aboard Air Force One to Italy for Pope Francis' Saturday morning funeral, First Lady Melania Trump on Friday departed the White House dressed in a dove gray trenchcoat from Dolce & Gabbana. She accessorized her look with oversized black sunglasses, black Roger Vivier pointy-toe flats and a black Hermès Birkin bag. Dolce & Gabbana is a favorite resource for Trump, who wore a black coat from the brand and a black lace mantilla to meet Pope Francis in 2017 at the Vatican with President Donald Trump.
The president is one of the 50 heads of state who are expected at Saturday's funeral in St. Peter's Square in front of St. Peter's Basilica. A crowd of 200,000 is expected to turn up for the mass in honor of the 88-year-old Argentinean. Millions of people are expected to tune in to broadcasts of the historic event, and also the livestream of it by the Vatican.

As an indication of the public's current interest in papal dealings, viewership of the feature film 'Conclave' had increased by 283 percent to 7 million minutes watched within days of the 266th pope's death on Monday.
The two-time first lady also chose a Dolce & Gabbana tailored black blazer with wide satin lapels over an unbuttoned white top for her official 2025 White House portrait that was photographed by Régine Mahaux. FLOTUS' tuxedo-style suit was completed with a Ralph Lauren cummerbund. Trump also chose a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble for her 2017 official portrait.
More recently, the former model wore a Dolce & Gabbana menswear inspired look — a black velvet tuxedo with satin lapels — to the White House Governors' Dinner in February. She completed that look with a Ralph Lauren cummerbund and white shirt. Over the president's inaugural weekend in January, she wore a Dolce & Gabbana white tuxedo shirt with a Saint Laurent jacket to the Candlelight Dinner at the National Building Museum.
Earlier this week at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll FLOTUS chose a similar trenchcoat look to Friday's ensemble — a vanilla-colored leather belted trenchcoat from Mackage with low-heeled Roger Vivier flats.
After landing at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome later Friday, the first couple were due at the U.S. Embassy, the 15th century Villa Taverna, which was commissioned by Cardinal Consalvi. Following their one-night stay in Italy and the pope's funeral, the Trumps planned to jet back to the U.S. for a night at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.

New Photos Show Latest as White House Rose Garden Is Bulldozed, Paved Over as Part of President Donald Trump's Renovation Plan

New photos show that the historic Rose Garden looks almost unrecognizable amid renovations President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump began their White House alterations on June 9 The garden area is used to host press conferences, dignitaries, sports teams and special eventsThe historic White House Rose Garden looks almost unrecognizable as renovations are underway. New photos reveal just how different the area looks nearly two weeks after President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump began their White House alterations on June 9. What was once the grass center square of the Rose Garden is completely gone, as gravel now sits on top of the area, with bulldozers and other construction equipment nearby. Other photos, which were obtained by Town and Country Magazine, show dirt being moved by bulldozers, as well as workers carrying equipment and other items to the central area. Some greenery remains, however, as the original hedges around the Rose Garden could still be seen bordering the area. The most recent photographs differ from images taken at the beginning of the renovations. Those photos initially showed a grassy area being dug up and parts of a limestone border — installed by Melania, 55, during her husband's first term in office — being moved in order to lay down a concrete surface within the border. Donald, 79, previously explained his reasoning for alerting the White House area in a March interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham. 'You know, we use [the Rose Garden] for press conferences, and it doesn't work because the people fall,' he said at the time. "The terrain can be wet, and the soft ground can be an issue for some," Trump added. "Women, with the high heels, it just didn't work.' At the start of the renovations, a White House official described the new construction as a "restoration" and told PEOPLE that Donald and Melania "have deep respect for the history of the White House and for the Rose Garden." "This restoration to the Rose Garden preserves the beauty of the space and builds on the work done in 2020, with a focus on enhancing practical use and guest experience for those attending special events," the official added. Still, many have criticized the new renovations, sharing their thoughts on social media. 'To remove Kennedy's Rose Garden is removing a piece of our White House history. And for a patio," one person wrote in a post on X. Another said on the social media platform, 'White House Rose Garden gone. Absolutely crazy.' Melania previously faced significant backlash when she initially redid the Rose Garden in 2020. At the time, she made a rare public statement, saying that the 'Rose Garden is graced with a healthy & colorful blossoming of roses." The remarks came after NBC News presidential historian Michael Beschloss described her botanical vision as 'grim.' Other current White House renovations are set to include the installation of a ballroom in the White House, per the Associated Press, as well as two new flag poles on the North and South Lawns. Donald announced in April that he would be personally funding the work, telling reporters, 'They've needed flagpoles for 200 years," despite the American flag and the POW/MIA flag flying atop the White House on a flagpole each day. Dolce & Gabbana embrace wrinkled romance for spring-summer 2026

MILAN (AP) — Dolce & Gabbana beckoned the warm weather with crumpled, take-me-anywhere comfort in their menswear collection for spring-summer 2026, previewed during Milan Fashion Week on Saturday. The show opened and closed with a relaxed pajama silhouette — deliberately rumpled and effortless — in a clash of stripes, with both shorts and long trousers. The Beethoven soundtrack belied designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's more deliberate intent, underscoring the designers' structured approach to soft tailoring. A broad shoulder double-breasted suit jacket and tie worn with pink pinstriped PJ pants encapsulated the classic summer dilemma: work vs. pleasure. Raw knitwear, or furry overcoats, added texture. Boxers peeked out of waistbands, and big shirt cuffs out of jacket sleeves, challenging formal and casual codes. Nothing was cleaner on the runway than a crisp striped pajama top in sky-blue and white stripes tucked into white leather Bermuda shorts — good for work and for play. The designers' finale featured pajama suits, shorts and pants, with beaded floral patterned embroidery for an evening seaside shimmer, worn with fuzzy sliders. Twin cameo brooches gave an antique accent. The crowd outside got to share in the fun when the finale models took the looks onto the streets, taking a full lap outside the designers' Metropol theater. Front-row guests included actors Zane Phillips, Theo James, Lucien Laviscount and Michele Morrone.
