
Meta, Oakley partner for AI-powered glasses
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is partnering with Oakley to launch new artificial intelligence (AI) powered glasses, the tech giant announced Friday.
The new smart glasses, like Meta's earlier Ray Ban glasses, are equipped with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers and AI capabilities. The Oakley glasses also feature a longer-lasting battery and a higher resolution camera that can shoot 3K video.
'Oakley Meta glasses are a new product line that will combine Oakley's signature design DNA with Meta's industry-leading technology to give you deeper insights into your physical capabilities and help you share your biggest wins – on and off the field,' Meta said in a press release, noting the glasses are geared toward 'athletes and fans alike.'
The initial Oakley Meta HSTN glasses will be available for pre-order starting July for $499, while the rest of the collection will be available later in the summer for $399.
Meta's newest product launch comes as the tech giant continues to spend heavily on AI, most recently to acquire key talent.
The company confirmed last week that it was making an investment in Scale AI, reportedly worth about $14 billion, and hiring the AI firm's CEO, Alexandr Wang, to work on its superintelligence efforts.
Meta is also in talks to hire Safe Superintelligence CEO Daniel Gross and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, according to multiple reports.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Meta was trying to poach AI talent with $100M signing bonuses. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told CNBC that Altman didn't mention how OpenAI was countering offers. Bosworth said the market rate he's seeing for AI talent has been "unprecedented." Andrew Bosworth, Meta's chief technology officer, says OpenAI has been countering those crazy offers. Bosworth said in an interview with CNBC's "Closing Bell: Overtime" on Friday that Altman "neglected to mention that he's countering those offers." The OpenAI CEO recently disclosed how Meta was offering massive signing bonuses to his employees during an interview on his brother's podcast, "Uncapped with Jack Altman." The executive said "none of our best people" had taken Meta's offers, but he didn't say whether OpenAI countered the signing bonuses to retain those top employees. OpenAI and Meta did not respond to requests for comment. The Meta CTO said these large signing bonuses are a sign of the market setting a rate for top AI talent. "The market is setting a rate here for a level of talent which is really incredible and kind of unprecedented in my 20-year career as a technology executive," Bosworth said. Billions of login credentials have been leaked online, Cybernews researchers say
NEW YORK (AP) — Researchers at cybersecurity outlet Cybernews say that billions of login credentials have been leaked and compiled into datasets online, giving criminals 'unprecedented access' to accounts consumers use each day. According to a report published this week, Cybernews researchers have recently discovered 30 exposed datasets that each contain a vast amount of login information — amounting to a total of 16 billion compromised credentials. That includes user passwords for a range of popular platforms including Google, Facebook and Apple. Sixteen billion is roughly double the amount of people on Earth today, signaling that impacted consumers may have had credentials for more than one account leaked. Cybernews notes that there are most certainly duplicates in the data and so 'it's impossible to tell how many people or accounts were actually exposed.' It's also important to note that the leaked login information doesn't span from a single source, such as one breach targeting a company. Instead, it appears that the data was stolen through multiple events over time, and then compiled and briefly exposed publicly, which is when Cybernews reports that its researchers discovered it. Various infostealers are most likely the culprit, Cybernews noted. Infostealers are a form of malicious software that breaches a victim's device or systems to take sensitive information. Many questions remain about these leaked credentials, including whose hands the login credentials are in now. But, as data breaches become more and more common in today's world, experts continue to stress the importance of maintaining key 'cyber hygiene.' If you're worried about your account data potentially being exposed in a recent breach, the first thing you can do is change your password — and avoid using the same or similar login credentials on multiple sites. If you find it too hard to memorize all your different passwords, consider a password manager or passkey. And also add multifactor authentication, which can serve as a second layer of verification through your phone, email or USB authenticator key.
