Here's What Advice Kendrick Lamar Gave Ray Vaughn During His Battle With Joey Bada$$

Yahoo09-06-2025

When you have a cerebral rap savant like Kendrick Lamar in your Rolodex, who wouldn't take advantage of that? Ray Vaughn revealed that he sought out Kendrick's guidance on certain tracks during his battle with Joey Bada$$.
The Top Dawg Entertainment rapper stopped by The Bootleg Kev Podcast on Friday (June 6), where he opened up about what advice he received from Lamar.

'I can call him,' he said of Lamar. 'I'm on the phone when I'm going at Joey [Bada$$], 'Ay, do you f–k with this?' I always get feedback. It still got a protocol.'
Vaughn said some of the advice he got from Lamar was that less is more at times, as K.Dot suggested he remove ad-libs from tracks.
'If anything, it's take something out. Like ad-libs, take some ad-libs about,' he continued. 'Or if it's not, it didn't come out… It's still the way we run TDE, it's still the same thing. You've got to go down the line. When they post it, it's going on TDE's page. N—a, you speaking and it's coming from our side, come correct.'
The Long Beach rapper also confirmed that he received advice from TDE's Ab-Soul, but stated that he 'couldn't go too far' due to the nature of Soul's relationship with Joey.
Joey Bada$$ continued to bait Kendrick Lamar by taking swipes at the Compton MC, but Lamar never ended up issuing an official response.
After a series of jabs earlier this year, Ray Vaughn lit the fuse with his 'Justin Credible Freestyle' in May, which sparked over a dozen diss tracks being heaved back-and-forth with drops from Bada$$, Daylyt, Ray Vaughn, Reason, Az Chike, Kai Ca$h and even Ab-Soul and YG.
Vaughn contributed plenty of fuel to the fire with 'Crashout Heritage,' 'Impossible Patty,' 'Hoe Era' and 'Golden Eye.'
He clarified to Bootleg Kev that there's 'no real beef' with Joey and claimed, 'It's good for the sport.' 'We got all the podcasters [and] hip-hop media talking about hip-hop. Not who's texting who, not who's f—ing who,' he added. 'We pushed hip-hop to the forefront again.'

‘I don't know him': Mariah Carey trolls popular YouTuber

MrBeast is the most followed person on YouTube, but Mariah Carey doesn't know him. The elusive chanteuse trolled the popular YouTuber and media personality in her music video for her new single 'Type Dangerous,' which was released on June 14. Throughout the video, Carey is introduced to various male suitors. Towards the end of the three-minute video, MrBeast makes his debut in leading man fashion, donning a utility vest and a leading man swagger. However, that didn't impress the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. Carey turns to the camera, shrugs and says 'I don't know him.' Then MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, fades into a pile of cash. The popular media personality has 405 million subscribers on YouTube and counting. The line is a nod to her famous line over 20 years ago when an interviewer asked Carey about Jennifer Lopez, who many believed was her industry rival. The five-time GRAMMY winner responded by shaking her head, smiling, and said, 'I don't know her.' The reaction later was turned into gifs and memes and has become cemented in pop-culture history. The single 'Type Dangerous' was released on June 6 and is her first solo release since 2019's 'In the Mix.' The song is set to be a part of Carey's upcoming 16th album. Also featuring Doechii, Sara Landry, Dominic Fike and Schoolboy Q as headliners, the festival will take place across Ballarat, Perth, Canberra and the Gold Coast between December 6-14. The forthcoming shows will be Lamar's first visit to Australia since The Big Steppers Tour in 2022, though unlike his current run of North American dates, they will feature Lamar in solo mode as opposed to his co-headlining status with SZA. Lamar's nascent tour dates also arrive in the wake of his latest batch of honors, this time coming from the BET Awards on Monday (June 9). Having been nominated for a total of ten awards across six categories, Lamar ended the evening as the most awarded artist, with the ceremony at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater resulting in five trophies going his way, including album of the year, video of the year, best collaboration (with SZA), best male hip hop artist, and video director of the year (with Dave Free). Additionally, in February 2025, in the wake of Lamar's Grammy Awards success, his 2024 single 'Not Like Us' re-entered the Australian ARIA charts and gave the rapper his first No. 1 single in the country. Mariah Carey Earns Her First Solo Hit Song In A Decade

Mariah Carey returns to the Hot 100 solo for the first time in 10 years with her new single 'Type of ... More Dangerous,' which also launches at No. 1 on other Billboard lists. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Billboard via Getty Images) Throughout the 1990s, Mariah Carey was the queen of the Hot 100, scoring one No. 1 smash after another. Several of her hits from that decade ruled for historically-long periods of time. Lately, Carey has spaced her releases further apart, and she doesn't land big wins like she used to. But the beloved singer is back on Billboard's ranking of the biggest songs in America this week with 'Type Dangerous,' which helps her return to the tally unaccompanied for the first time in years. 'Type Dangerous' opens at No. 95 on the Hot 100 this week. According to Billboard, the track earns Carey her first completely solo hit on the chart roster in a decade. The last time she debuted a tune on the tally without any other featured artists credited was in May 2015, when 'Infinity' arrived and peaked at No. 82. In the years since 'Infinity' debuted, Carey has pushed a handful of tracks onto the Hot 100, but all of them benefited from another artist being included. Her list of recent hits includes 'I Don't' with YG and 'Oh Santa!' alongside Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. Those two tunes peaked at Nos. 89 and 76, respectively. Of course, Carey returns to the Hot 100 every holiday season with 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.' The track finds its way back to the tally sometimes in November, sometimes not until December, but for the past half-decade, it has risen all the way to No. 1 every year. The blockbuster has now accrued a total of 18 weeks ruling the list — a number that will surely climb again at the end of 2025. 'Type Dangerous' powers its way onto the Hot 100 thanks largely to a healthy sales sum. The single opens at No. 4 on the Digital Song Sales chart, with a little under 5,100 pure purchases, according to Luminate. That also sends it straight to No. 1 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales tallies. It similarly opens inside the top 10 on a handful of other genre-focused rankings.
