
Nokia's published timeline reveals when commercial 6G service will begin
Sometimes it feels as though 5G just got here. The faster data speeds and low latency of the wireless standard promised to help deliver amazing capabilities. Analysts thought that 5G would allow surgeons to perform remote medical operations. Many expected to see highways full of self-driving vehicles by now along with smart cities where everything from traffic lights to waste collection would be efficiently run using 5G.
It is estimated that there are only about 5 years remaining until 6G service becomes available making it unlikely that we will see 5G achieve its fullest expectations. Now that the chapter on 5G is getting ready to close, the 3rd Generation partnership project (3GPP), made up of telecom standards organizations, met last week in Prague to discuss the possible architecture behind 6G radio.
Last week's meeting in Prague included the technical specification group (TSG) whose studies are supposed to be wrapped up by the first quarter of 2027. 6G specifications will come from these meetings which will be part of 3GPP Release 21. The latter should lead to the finalization of the first 6G standard in 2029. That will lead to the launch of 6G in 2030 although it might not stop some carriers from offering 6G service before others.

After the meeting last week, both Nokia and Ericsson commented on what they expect from 6G. Nokia's blog included a timeline calling for a commercial launch of 6G by the fourth quarter of 2029. Nokia says that 6G technology will allow phone batteries to run longer. The company also said that 6G deployment will require large amounts of spectrum. The plan is for 6G and 5G to share existing spectrum. This will use 5G-6G Multi-RAT Spectrum Sharing (MRSS). 5G is very much suitable for sharing spectrum with 6G.

While 4G/5G dynamic spectrum sharing is already a thing, it is not as efficient as 5G-6G Multi-RAT Spectrum Sharing (MRSS) will be. For its part, Ericsson also says that MRSS will play an important role in the transition from 5G to 6G. Both Nokia and Ericsson expect AI and machine learning to play a huge part in 6G standards. Nothing Headphone (1) leaks in set of live images
The Nothing Ear (1) was the brand's first ever product, and Nothing is going back to its roots with its first attempt at over-the-ear headphones. The aptly named Headphone (1) are launching alongside the Phone (3) on July 1 and we now have our first live look thanks to a series of live images. Nothing Headphone (1) ear cup design You'd be hard pressed to mistake the Headphone (1) for any other brand's headphones. They feature the signature transparent design elements on the outside of the ear cups and Nothing branding. We can see that Headphones (1) will be available in black and white colors. Nothing Headphone (1) in white and black The earcups feature a two-part design with the base appearing to be made from metal while the top half is made from plastic and looks like a cassette tape. We can also spot three buttons - two on the side and one on the outside of the ear cup. While these are wireless headphones, one of the images shows them connected with a 3.5mm audio jack so that will also be an option. Massive data breach exposes 16 billion login credentials including those related to Apple and Google
Stealing personal data has become such a lucrative crime. Swiping passwords and other credentials allow criminals to break into victims' apps allowing these cybercrooks to wipe out financial accounts via banking and trading apps. This information can also lead to more sophisticated crimes using SIM swaps and identity thefts. The latest news from Cybernews is downright frightening as a record 16 billion login credentials have been exposed. The report says that the Cybernews team has discovered 30 exposed datasets with each one containing anywhere from tens of millions to 3.5 billion records in each dataset. Yes, it all adds up to the aforementioned 16 billion login credentials that were outed. Interestingly, only one of the datasets had been reported earlier in the media. As we told you at the time, that breach consisted of 184 million login credentials which were publicly accessible with no password or encryption protecting it. That breach included logins for Apple, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft users. Information stolen in the breach included credentials from online services connected to Apple, Facebook, Google, GitHub, and Telegram. Data from users of various government services was also made public. Researchers say that this data can be used to drive phishing campaigns, power attacks created to take over online accounts, generate ransomware attacks, and more. One dataset with 455 million records was named to indicate that it originated with the Russian Federation. One with 60 million records was named after the cloud-based Telegram messaging service. At this point, it is unknown who owns the leaked data although it would appear that at least some of the massive collection of data came from cyber criminals. Since there were overlapping records, it is impossible to determine exactly how many individuals were impacted by the data breach. Having said that, the stolen data follows a particular order with the URL first followed by login credentials and then passwords. According to Cybernews, modern infostealers, defined as malicious software stealing sensitive information, collect data in this order verifying that the data collected was stolen. Here's the scary part. Even if the attackers who owned the data were able to get login credentials from only 1% of the victims, that would leave over 1 million individuals some of whom could be vulnerable to getting fooled into giving up even more information. What you should do is change your passwords to strong ones often. Don't tap on links found in emails or texts; be suspicious.
