Presley Chweneyagae: ‘He was every mother's son, every girl's funny lover, and everyone's best friend'
Chweneyagae embodied God-given talent, said Phathutshedzo Makwarela, executive producer of The River and Cobrizi.
DStv, the broadcaster which was home to late actor Presley Chweneyagae in recent years, has paid tribute to the beloved actor.
'He was every mother's son, every girl's funny lover, and everyone's best friend,' said CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, Nomsa Philiso.
Chweneyagae passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 40. His talent agency and management team at Moonyeenn Lee Associates (MLA) confirmed his death.
'It is with profound sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of one of South Africa's most gifted and beloved actors, Presley Chweneyagae,' the statement read.
The cause of death is still unknown to the public.

A generational talent
Philiso said Chweneyagae was a generational talent whose work helped shape Mzansi television.
'His characters felt like family,' she shared.
'Through characters like Cobra on The River, and most recently on Mzansi Magic's Cobrizi, he didn't just entertain — he made us laugh, made us care, and helped us understand the people behind the stories. His work brought heart and humanity to every role.'
Chweneyagae's performances on The River made him more endearing to Mzansi as the hilarious older brother with an English twang.
'His legacy lives on in the stories he helped bring to life. He was part of some of DStv's most loved productions, and his performances will continue to resonate. We will miss him dearly,' Philiso said.

A tribute to Chweneyagae
Hours after the news of the actor's passing broke out, Showmax released a tribute to the actor on its app.
Titled A Tribute To Presley Chweneyagae, Showmax has curated a collection of recent shows featuring the late actor, as aired on MultiChoice platforms.
The tribute includes all six seasons of The River, the first season of the drama series iNumber Number and the feature film of the same name, which was released in 2014.
Co-creator and executive producer of The River and Cobrizi, Phathutshedzo Makwarela of Tshedza Pictures, said Chweneyagae epitomised God-given talent.
'Presley was one of a generation. He was the epitome of God given talent. Tshedza Pictures is blessed to have worked with him for close to nine years on The River and its spin-off Cobrizi. Today, the world is a much sadder place today by the loss of this talent.'
Tsotsi co-star Terry Pheto said she was shocked by Chweneyagae's passing.
'I'm shocked and saddened by the news of Presley's sudden passing. My heart goes out to his family and the rest of our friends and colleagues in the film industry. We shared an unforgettable moment when we won the Oscar. It's a moment I will forever cherish,' said Pheto.

Mzansi, the queen is back on the airwaves. Much to the delight of her fans, beloved radio and TV personality Selby 'Selbeyonce' Mkhize is making a triumphant return to Gagasi FM, the heartbeat of KwaZulu-Natal. After years away from the station where her media career took flight, Selby is rejoining the station on June 23, and she's not coming quietly. She'll be lighting up the Gagasi Fast Lane, the station's high-energy afternoon drive show, alongside the iconic duo Sphectacula and DJ Naves. Her journey began in 2008 as a voice-over artist. By 2009, she had already made waves as the sass-filled gossip columnist on the weekend breakfast show Lively and Loud. The momentum kept building as she brought the heat to the Top 40 in 2010 and owned the Saturday night party scene in 2011. In 2012, she took a step back from the station, but her legacy never faded. Now, more than a decade later, she's coming home and fans can't wait. Julius Malema's EFF pays tribute to commentator Phumlani Msibi
Julius Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has posted its condolences to the family and friends of sports anchor Phumlani Msibi. Msibi passed away on Friday at the age of 57 after a short illness. He was a renowned football and boxing commentator and presenter, best known for his phrase 'Coach, thoughts please?' The EFF's social media post read: 'The EFF sends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of legendary sports anchor Phumulani Msibi following his passing. May his soul rest in eternal peace.' Born on 15 December 1967 in Durban, Phumlani Msibi was a passionate and supremely talented storyteller, with a penchant for live football and boxing commentary and analysis. In his decades-long and storied broadcasting career, his iconic phrase, 'Coach, thoughts please?' upped the intrigue for viewers in post-match interviews and became iconic in the football fraternity. He started at SuperSport as a ring announcer with the late boxing promoter, Mzi Mnguni, in the late 1990s before becoming a seasoned boxing commentator, becoming the first to commentate in isiZulu and English on the sports broadcaster. Msibi soon embedded himself in the football sphere, becoming one of the faces and voices of football on SuperSport following the acquisition of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) broadcast rights in 2007. This proved a pivotal point in his career, whereby Msibi grew his repertoire, immersing himself in all things football on SuperSport, whether live or on magazine programming. His clever use of language, whether isiZulu or English, endeared him to viewers across the continent, while his humility made his interviewees comfortable in front of camera. He became SuperSport's 'Mr Versatile', featuring on popular football magazine shows, Super Saturday and Soccer Africa, as well as doing his bespoke storytelling through 'Mzansi Legends', where he interviewed people such as Dr Irvin Khoza, the PSL and Orlando Pirates chairman; Dr Kaizer Motaung senior, chairman of Kaizer Chiefs; the late Thomas Madigage and many other legendary football personalities. As synonymous as he was with football and boxing, Msibi also punched above his weight when it came to horse racing. SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha paid tribute to Msibi: 'Msibi was one of the most beloved sports commentators SuperSport has ever had. He had a reputation as an outstanding professional, well-respected by his peers and colleagues and a respected family man. 'On behalf of SuperSport and the MultiChoice family, we'd like to express our heartfelt condolences to the Msibi family following this great loss.
