Royal Ascot has seen the turnout of the Royal family and their confidantes at the premiere Berkshire racing event, reveling in both the equestrian events and this pinnacle occasion on the social calendar.
Despite key figures consistently partaking in Ascot's pomp since its commencement earlier in the week, Carole Middleton – mum to Princess Kate – was spotted indulging in the excitement on Wednesday. This came as a pleasant surprise especially after her daughter, Kate, decided against attending at the eleventh hour.
While Kate's absence was noted, her mother, Carole, lost no time in enjoying the company of the royals, sharing laughs with King Charles and embracing her son-in-law, Prince William.
It's not unusual for Carole and the extended Middleton family to be seen at significant Royal functions – think King Charles' coronation in 2023 – however, their presence in relaxed settings, visibly having a good time, is somewhat of a novelty.
The jovial interaction between Charles and Carole caught the attention of Royal enthusiasts, particularly within the Royal suite where their camaraderie was unmistakable, sparking an array of heartwarming comments regarding their evident close-knit rapport, reports the Mirror.
A fan expressed delight on X stating: "It's lovely to see them together," while another remarked fondly: "Love that they have a lovely warm relationship."
A different Royal spectator chimed in with: "So nice to see. Good that they all get along so well."
Another individual commented: "I love that when they're together, they're just in-laws. He's the King, but he's also her daughter's father-in-law and they share grandkids."
Throughout the day, Prince William was also observed embracing his mother-in-law, suggesting a strong kinship between them, with William having become as integral to the Middleton family as Kate has to the Royal Family.
Even though her daughter Kate dropped out of Royal Ascot, Carole Middleton still attended the event on its second day without her presence announced less than two hours before she was expected to join Prince William in the Royal procession.
Given that Kate's name was already included in the programme for day two and had been circulated by Royal Ascot's social media channels, her sudden withdrawal raised eyebrows among the public. The Palace, nevertheless, promptly addressed the confusion about Kate's absence, stating it was down to a "miscommunication".
A representative from Kensington Palace explained: "We notified Ascot that Her Royal Highness would not be attending. Unfortunately an inaccurate version of the carriage list was issued in error after that notification. The correct list was then circulated."
It seems that the Prince and Princess of Wales have no plans to make further appearances during the festival.
It is believed that Kate's absence is due to her striving to strike the right balance as she gradually resumes public-facing engagements, just months after announcing her cancer was in remission.

King Charles and actress Sophie Winkleman are seen enjoying royal box experience at Ascot racing festival
King Charles appeared in great spirits at day four of the Ascot racing festival as he was joined by actress Sophie Winkleman in the royal box. The Monarch looked deep conversation with Ms Winkleman, the wife of Lord Frederick Windsor and half-sister of TV presenter Claudia, as they watched the excitement unfold on Thursday. His Majesty sported a dapper grey morning suit, the same one he has worn for the three previous days, this time paired with a stylish pink waistcoat. Lord Windsor, who is the son of Prince Michael of Kent and second cousin of King Charles, was also present alongside his wife, who donned a navy buttoned up blouse and matching hat, and Queen Camilla. Despite the joyous atmosphere, the King and Queen's racing pot of gold failed to materialise once again as their horse Purple Rainbow was well beaten in the aptly named Sandringham Stakes race. Charles and Camilla watched the fast-paced race from the royal box and were glued to monitors, with the King animated in the closing stages of the mile-long sprint. He bobbed on the spot as if willing on his jockey Warren Fentiman, who was unfortunately unable to challenge the front runners. The couple looked up in the closing stages to watch the race as it came past the stands but were left opened mouthed as Never Let Go crossed the line first. Charles, 76, and Camilla, 77, will have to wait another day to try to double their tally of Royal Ascot winners. The King and Queen Camilla kicked off events earlier in the day after they were seen waving to racegoers as they arrived in a horse-drawn-landaus. They were joined by Camilla's old school friend Lady Cavendish and her husband Lord Cavendish in their coach during the traditional carriage procession along the course in Berkshire. Charles' nieces Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall were also seen beaming as they chatted with His Majesty. Zara donned a chic baby blue pantsuit with a matching hat, while Princess Eugenie wore beige top coupled with a white hat and skirt. The pair were in high spirits as they shared a warm embrace upon their arrival to the festival earlier today. Princess Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, was also present at the prestigious event, wearing a polka dot black and white dress paired with a matching black hat. Not to be outdone, Camilla oozed glamour in a white chiffon dress with embroidered flowers from Anna Valentine, paired with a feathered Philip Treacy hat. Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank was also spotted in the parade ring alongside former defence secretary Ben Wallace when the royal procession arrived in the exclusive area. The late Queen was a passionate owner and breeder of thoroughbreds and had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign. Charles and Camilla have taken on her stable of horses and enjoyed their first Royal Ascot winner in 2023 when their horse Desert Hero triumphed in the King George V Stakes. His Majesty's appearance today comes after Princess of Wales sparked concern as she pulled out of attending the festival on Wednesday, apparently at the last minute. But royal sources insisted there was nothing to worry about and that it was simply a case of crossed wires. Aides also stressed that Catherine was continuing to 'balance her return to public life' following her cancer diagnosis last year, after which she made clear that she would resume her duties with a slow and measured approach. The mini-drama came as her husband, Prince William, handed out the prize for the Prince of Wales stakes at the racecourse in Berkshire. Executives at Ascot had expected the princess to join him, travelling down in the carriage procession from Windsor Castle with King Charles and Queen Camilla. Zara appeared in good spirits as she attended the occasion alongside her royal relatives At 12pm they issued the procession list for the day, featuring the Prince and Princess of Wales in the second carriage after the King and Queen. But 22 minutes later, guidance was issued which said Catherine would not be attending. It is understood an 'inaccurate version' of the list was 'issued in error'. An updated list was circulated and Lord Soames – a good friend of the King – lost his seat to make way for William in the first carriage with Charles and Camilla. They were also joined by Saudi's Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Saud. Sources stressed there was 'no cause for alarm' and Catherine was following guidance palace aides have always given: that she would 'balance her return to public duties', following appearances at Trooping the Colour on Saturday and Monday's Order of the Garter service. They added that she was 'disappointed' not to attend but 'has to find the right balance'. Catherine, 43, had abdominal surgery last January, after which she was told cancer had been present, forcing her to undergo preventive chemotherapy.

Nick Knowles' wife recreates her wedding look as they pack on the PDA at Ascot
Nick Knowles and his new wife Katie have put on a loved-up display as they attended Royal Ascot, where Katie wore a dress that was very similar to her wedding gown Newlyweds Nick Knowles and wife Katie packed on the PDA as they enjoyed their first public outing as a married couple on Friday. The DIY SOS presenter, 62, and his new spouse, 34, were all smiles as they shared a smooch at day four of Royal Ascot. Nick Knowles and Katie tied the knot in a lavish six-figure ceremony at the start of June after being together for over four years. The happy couple first crossed paths back in 2019 and made their relationship official two years later in 2021. Basking in their newlywed bliss, Strictly Come Dancing star Nick and Katie looked dapper as they joined race goers and celebrities like Georgia 'Toff' Toffolo at the jewel in the crown of the UK racing calendar. Katie donned a blue and white frock strikingly similar to her wedding dress, as she planted a smacker on her new husband at the star-studded event. She complemented her outfit with a chic navy hat and elevated her stature with strappy nude heels, all the while flashing a radiant smile for the camera. Accompanying her, Nick looked dapper in a black suit and light blue silk waistcoat, as the couple demonstrated they were still very much in their honeymoon phase. Nick and Katie certainly spared no expense for their special day, with reports suggesting the event cost into the six figures. Nick cut a dapper figure in a light pink tuxedo jacket, paired with black trousers and a matching black bow tie. He completed his look with a purple flower in his lapel. Meanwhile, Katie turned heads in a non-traditional wedding gown. Eschewing the typical all-white dress, she chose a white gown adorned with blue flowers. Her hair was elegantly styled in a bun and she opted for full glam bridal makeup. She accessorised her look with a sparkling statement necklace and a long veil. The couple's paths first crossed in 2019 when Katie's daughters became friends with Nick's youngest son Eddie, 9, at a play centre. Katie runs a lingerie and sex toy business and also owns another company, Boobbix, which sells 'lactation products for breastfeeding mums'. Nick proposed two years ago during a trip to New Orleans. Since then, Katie celebrated her final days of singlehood with a hen-do surrounded by her closest friends and family shortly before the big day. Katie, who juggles motherhood with two kids, has found herself justifying the substantial age difference between her and Nick. Yet, she's not the first younger lady linked to the celebrity. Back in 2019, Nick was spotted cosying up to 26 year old PR guru Emily Hallinan during a West End show date. The previous year, he dated marketing whizz Rebecca Kearns, who is said to be over three decades his junior. Post-breakup with Rebecca, Nick was snapped looking rather close with Emmerdale actress Gemma Oaten at the TV Choice Awards in September 2016. The snaps, however, spelled the end for the pair, with Gemma recounting the ordeal: "One Sunday morning we were lying in bed and all these texts came through about us being photographed together. In an instant he completely changed. It was all about him and how it was going to affect his family. It was really cruel as he said it didn't matter for me. I felt sick." She continued: "I said, 'Do you want to throw away what we have? We have done nothing wrong'. But he just dropped me like a ton of bricks. I thought it was a real relationship and he wasn't afraid to let others know."
