Hyderabad: The state Cabinet, slated to meet on Monday, is likely to discuss and take a decision on holding the local body elections in the state, likely to be held from July onwards. As per the schedule, the Cabinet meeting will be held in the afternoon. The newly appointed ministers will be introduced to the Cabinet since this is the first meeting after the recent expansion.
According to sources, the ministers will be discussing the local body elections, which are due for a long time now. Two ministers -- Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Panchayat Raj Minister Dhanasri Anasuya (Seethakka) – have already hinted that the notification for the local body elections would be issued by the month-end.
During his visit to Khammam on Monday, Srinivasa Reddy said that a clarity on the dates of the local body elections would come after a discussion in the Cabinet meeting. Initially, there will be elections for the ZPTC and MPTC seats followed by polls to sarpanches and municipal bodies, according to sources.
The Cabinet is also likely to discuss the Rythu Bharosa scheme and announce a date for its payment as the monsoon has arrived and farmers have started agricultural activities. The state government is also gearing up to implement one more promise out of six guarantees the Congress party had given during the 2023 elections. This issue may also come up for discussion.
Meanwhile, Srinivasa Reddy has asked the party leaders to be ready for the local body polls. He also asked them to sort out the problems in the villages. He further said that candidates with ample winning chances would only be fielded.
According to him, the state government will transfer Rythu Bharosa amount and pending bonus of super fine paddy to farmers soon.

Siddaramaiah hits back at BJP, says housing quota in line with Centre's own norms

BENGALURU: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the Congress government is committed to inclusive development rejecting the politics of hatred and division being pushed by BJP. Hitting out at BJP that questioned his government's decision to increase quota for minorities in housing schemes, CM Siddaramaiah said that the Cabinet has approved a decision to enhance the earmarking for minority beneficiaries, including Christians, Jains, Muslims, etc, under state-run housing schemes in a calibrated manner, in line with the Union Government's own guidelines. The CM said that the government's decision does not grant blanket enhancement of quota across the state. 'It only addresses a specific implementation challenge. In many panchayats where the minority population is less than 10%, the mandated 10% earmarking could not be utilised. 'To ensure optimal use of the allocated targets and avoid lapses, we have allowed the gap from such panchayats to be reallocated to those with a higher minority population, subject to a cap of 15%,' he said, terming it as an administrative adjustment within the unreserved category and does not affect SC, ST, or OBC reservations in any manner. The decision is legally sound and has been cleared by the Law Department after thorough review, the CM said.

Telangana sets benchmark with ₹1.04 lakh crore for Agriculture since Cong. came to power

Hyderabad The Telangana government has spent a staggering ₹1.04 lakh crore, ever since the Congress came to power, to revitalise agriculture and garnered the attention of other States. The series of pro-farmer policies include a ₹2 lakh loan waiver that has freed 25 lakh farmers from debt in a single year, as against the previous governments that took years to release crop loan waiver in installments, a senior Minister argued. The Revanth Reddy government waived crop loans worth ₹20,616 crore in its first year alone, bringing immediate relief and restoring the economic dignity of farmers across Telangana, said Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy. The Rythu Bharosa scheme has disbursed ₹7,310.59 crore within five days, beginning June 16, helping 65.12 lakh farmers. In total, the government has spent ₹12,682 crore on Rythu Bharosa payouts in 18 months. The government intends to disburse ₹9,000 crore in nine days. The same was informed to senior Congress leaders in New Delhi during the Chief Minister's recent visits drawing appreciation from the Congress leadership. Besides, the government continued 24x7 free electricity for agriculture and providing a subsidy of ₹16,691 crore for 29 lakh pump sets. The grain procurement practice has reached a new scale with ₹500 per quintal bonus incentive for paddy helping the Sreach a new milestone in rice production. Officials said in 2023-24, the government procured 95.31 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from 15 lakh farmers at a cost of ₹20,964 crore. So far, paddy worth ₹29,562 crore has been purchased and payments made to over 21.59 lakh farmers. Telangana produced 2.80 crore metric tonnes of paddy this year, highest in the country. Telangana is also leading in oil palm cultivation, with 18,985 farmers planting the crop across 60,432 acres since the Congress government took charge, officials argued. Officials also revealed that farmers hit by unseasonal rains and floods received ₹10,000 per acre in compensation, totalling ₹260 crore. Revival of Central schemes In addition, the State government has revived 16 Centrally-sponsored schemes that were previously stalled due to non-release of matching grants. A sum of ₹245 crore has been allocated for their reactivation. Telangana is also providing drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, including 100% for SC/ST farmers, 90% for small and marginal farmers, and 80% for others with 75% subsidy on sprinklers. Since December 2023, equipment worth ₹282 crore has been distributed to 40,265 farmers.
