Body found near Taylor Swift's home identified: Who was Eric Wein, the 13th victim of the Rhode Island's serial killer havoc?
Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion has been in the news lately, with growing fear gripping the neighbourhood. On May 14, police discovered human remains, specifically, a leg bone, near Watch Hill. The area is counted among the most posh in Westerly, and it also happens to be where Swift owns her $17.75 million beachside mansion. Weeks later, on June 18, after a long investigation, police confirmed the remains belonged to Eric Wein, a 31-year-old man from Massachusetts who had gone missing on April 18. Here's everything to know about the case.
According to the authorities, the location where Eric's body was found was 'a couple of football fields away' from her house. On Wednesday, the South Kingstown Police Department, referring to the state's medical examiner, released a statement confirming the identity of the deceased. The 31-year-old, who went missing last month, had already had his vehicle recovered from an illegal parking space. Interestingly, his car had been found on April 10, eight days before he was officially reported missing. Though the police have now closed the case, citing no foul play, and offered condolences—'We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wein's family and loved ones during this difficult time'—concerns over the chain of deaths have already sparked fear among locals. Since March, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut have reported a total of 13 bodies.

Back in May, cops in the beach town had downplayed the serial killer chatter, saying in a statement, 'There is no connection between human remains found and online fears of a serial killer in New England.' But the case has gained more attention because of the pop star's name being attached and the eerie way the remains washed up so close to her mansion. Wein's body was discovered just three weeks after an unidentified male was found in the Seekonk River in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The timing and similarity of both deaths have had everyone wondering if there's more to it. 'My mind immediately went to all the theories that are being thrown around,' a local resident told the Daily Mail.
Another 35-year-old, Paige Fannon, was found in the Norwalk River in Connecticut, and almost at the same time, a human skull was discovered near Route 3 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The grim discoveries didn't stop there. Two weeks later, Suzanne Wormser's body was identified in Groton, Connecticut, and the very next day, 59-year-old Denise Leary was found dead near her home in New Haven. Some were found in wooded areas, others near bike paths, and one woman's body was even discovered in a suitcase. So far, only one arrest has been made.

Social media went wild with rumours that there might be a serial killer on the loose in New England. Police, however, have made it very clear: there is no connection between these deaths. Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella, in a statement, said, 'As far as I'm concerned, as far as right now, this has nothing to do with any serial killer [or] any New England murderer.' The same was confirmed by families of one of the victims, like Michele Romano, whose relatives asked people to stop spreading conspiracy theories about her case.
Residents of Watch Hill are shaken and confused. Many aren't buying the 'no foul play' statement. One local, Taylor Day, said she saw multiple police and a medical examiner on the scene. For the unversed, Swift has owned that mansion since 2013, and it's famous for her Fourth of July parties with stars like Gigi Hadid and the Haim sisters. The home was previously owned by Rebekah Harkness, who inspired Swift's track 'The Last Great American Dynasty.'

The Waterfront filming locations: Where the Netflix NC drama was shot
The Waterfront is Netflix's latest addition to its catalogue of crime thrillers. Directed and created by Kevin Williamson, the show is closely tied to anecdotal incidents from his own childhood. Considering the deeply personal nature of this project, it's no wonder that Williamson chose to return to a location he's all too familiar with and comfortable in: North Carolina. The Waterfront, directed by Kevin Williamson, is a Netflix crime thriller that reflects his childhood in North Carolina. (Netflix) ALSO READ| What to watch on streaming? 10 new shows to catch on Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+ this weekend Although not a do-or-done location, there's no doubt that North Carolina has been a repetitive favorite of Williamson in his 30-year career trajectory. Having previously directed iconic pieces of pop culture history such as Dawson's Creek, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the fifth Scream movie, Wilmington (a small town in North Carolina) is the common string tying these films and shows together. Since The Waterfront is a heavily location-dependent story, North Carolina turned out to provide the perfect backdrop for Williamson's fictional town of Havenport. Along with Wilmington, multiple locations in Southport have also been used for filming. 'I grew up in North Carolina, as you know, in a very, very small town, very much Southport, where we filmed this show,' Williamson said to Screen Rant. The Waterfront plot The Waterfront tells the story of a family patriarch who struggles to maintain his family ties via his fishing and restaurant business and ultimately ends up resorting to smuggling drugs to make ends meet. This is a direct reflection of Williamson's childhood where his father, whom he considers to be 'the greatest man alive', was a fisherman who failed to make ends meet and was subsequently imprisoned for drug trafficking. This series depicts a significant incident that, when it came to light, shook the world to its core: the discovery of 33 skeletons in a house. Docu-Drama Series… The series we are talking about is 'Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes,' which premiered in 2022 and consists of three episodes. This original Netflix docu-series recounts the terrifying true story of John Wayne Gacy, America's most dangerous serial killer. Between 1972 and 1978, Gacy brutally murdered over 33 boys and young men in Chicago. The series incorporates audio tapes recorded by the police during his arrest. Additionally, the docu-series features statements from victims, witnesses, and individuals involved in the investigation. On the surface, John Wayne Gacy appeared to be an ordinary man: he operated a construction company, was engaged in local politics, and performed as a clown for children. However, behind this seemingly friendly facade lay a monstrous individual who lured people in with his charm. Beyond detailing Gacy's horrific crimes, the series also explores the social context of the era, including societal attitudes toward homosexuality and the negligence of law enforcement. Due to police inaction, Gacy evaded justice for years while continuing to murder young individuals. Directed by Joe Berlinger, known for his previous documentary on Ted Bundy, the series prioritizes truth and factual accuracy over sensationalism. More About The Horrific Series 'Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes' consists of three one-hour episodes. It was released on Netflix on April 20, 2022, and is available in Hindi as well. The series has received a rating of 7.1 on IMDb and an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although some viewers have found its content to be extremely disturbing. As per the Los Angeles Times, on the day of his execution, nearly 1,000 people gathered in the courtyard of Chicago's City Hall to celebrate Gacy's impending death. They released balloons and carried signs mocking Gacy's obsession with clowns. In the docuseries, participants could be heard chanting, 'Death to Gacy.' Many expressed that while they believed the serial killer was getting what he deserved, they thought his execution should have happened much sooner.
