Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola expressed his delight on the return of Balon d'Or winner Rodri following a lengthy stint on the sideline due to a knee injury.
Rodri, who played a crucial part in helping City to the treble a couple of seasons ago, made his first appearance for the Mancunian side in over eight months and was given a raucous ovation when he was subbed on against Bournemouth in the side 3-1 win over the Cherries.
'We're really pleased he's back, really pleased for the reaction for our people to him, I'm pretty sure he's so pleased with that," Guardiola said.
The Spaniard, however, cautioned that it would be a while before the Spanish midfielder returned to his very best.
'There's still a long way to be the Rodri he was," the City gaffer added.
'Guess will be next season we start to be Rodri not in the way like we have seen before the injury where he played 70 games every three days," the 54-year-old said.

'It will take longer for that because the experience with this surgery is to be careful otherwise have muscular problems and this kind of stuff," Guardiola explained.

'But this is the first step for mind and knee still is not to see Rodri the way we know him," the Catalan genius stated.
City, who are placed third in the Premier League this season and locked in a five-way-battle for the remaining three UCL spots, need a draw against Fulham at the Craven Cottage on Sunday to secure their place in the upcoming edition of the UEFA Champions League.
Guardiola voiced ease with their qualification chances relying on their own performance instead of results from elsewhere.
'It's better. Arriving in the last games, it depends on you, it depends on us, yes it's better," the Spaniard said.
'We have to look at ourselves. We need one point to be in the Champions League next season and we have to go to win against a top side," he concluded.

Marc recovered by the end of lap one to sit behind Bagnaia and Alex as the three Ducatis went side-by-side heading into turn one to the delight of the roaring crowd before Alex squeezed through unscathed on his Gresini bike to take the lead. Marc then locked horns with home favourite Bagnaia to overtake him before using his brother's slipstream to take the lead on lap four when going at more than 350 kph. Once he had clean air in front of him, Marc took complete command of the sprint and set the pace as he slowly extended his lead over Alex to more than a second while Bagnaia desperately held on to third while also receiving track limit warnings. As Marc took the chequered flag ahead of Alex, Bagnaia managed to keep Maverick Vinales at bay and the KTM rider came fourth while Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing completed the top five.

Toby Collyer ready to give 100% for Man Utd next season

Manchester: Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer believes he is in a good place physically and ready to embrace the challenges that will come in 2025/26. The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Manchester United, after making his senior debut in the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley. In total, he made 13 appearances in all competitions but his last involvement came in the mid-March win at Leicester City, even if he did feature in the post-season tour of Asia. This was due to injury but Collyer feels he has learned from a spell on the sidelines and is taking that knowledge into what promises to be a demanding close season training under head coach Ruben Amorim. "I think, nowadays, especially with the double gameweeks (we had). Even, sometimes, you have three games in just over a week. So you need to be doing the right things off the pitch, to make sure that, when you're on it, you can give 100 per cent. "There is nothing like the Premier League. The demands it puts on your body, going from the Under-21s, is a big step. But I feel like I've adapted well and I think that is the main thing as I've had a few injuries this year. But I think it's an opportunity for me to learn how my body works. What I can do and what I can't do. What things work for me. "Obviously, nobody wants to be injured but you can see the positives in it. You can always analyse things and see how this happened, like what can you do to prevent it and you learn stuff about your body. So, now, going into next season, I know 100 per cent what I need to do," said Collyer to United's media team. Collyer says he is feeling strong, as he looks to force his way into Amorim's plans for the season ahead, with the pre-season opener against Leeds United, in Stockholm, already under a month away. "It's more of a mental challenge, I'd say," he said about his stint on the sidelines. Especially at the start, when you're not allowed to do many things and maybe not be on the pitch. From Delhi slum to standout performances at RPL, Hyderabad Heroes' Javed Hussain has an inspiring story to tell

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], 21 June 21 (ANI): A week into the Rugby Premier League (RPL) season, the Hyderabad Heroes have won all four of their matches and stand on top of the standings with 15 points and at the heart of their success is Javed Hussain, a player whose journey has been anything but ordinary. With four tries and 20 points to his name, Javed is not only the league's best-performing Indian but also ranks seventh overall in the points tally. 'I am very happy with my team. We understand and support each other. We trust each other and are united as a team,' Javed Hussain said as quoted by the RPL press release. That unity has been key in the big wins, including their last victory over the Mumbai Dreamers, where Javed was named as 'Player of the Match'. Although he is on top of his game at the moment, Javed recalled his pre-match jitters ahead of his first game at the GMR RPL. 'When I played my first match, I was a little hopeless. I didn't know how I was going to play against such big names. But everything changed after that first game and the first try I scored. When the match ended, my coach selected me as the Hero of the Day and gave me a jersey. I started crying when I got the jersey,' he shared. Javed hails from a very humble background in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi and has a peculiar story on how he got into a sport like rugby. On how his journey started, he shared, ' We used to live in Juggis (makeshift houses). There was a jungle behind where we used to go to relieve ourselves since we didn't have a bathroom. Slowly, an NGO (Earth Foundation) came, cleared the jungle and made a ground.' 'The coaches from the Delhi Hurricanes rugby club came in collaboration with the NGO and used to train kids there. I was standing there and watching as my friends used to play, but I didn't understand the sport, and I was scared of the older kids and hence didn't want to play. I started playing because the coaches told me they would give me a 'Tiger' biscuit packet after training, and for those biscuits I got greedy and started playing,' he explained. Despite his humble beginnings, Javed made it clear that he isn't playing the GMR RPL for the money or fame, but for the experience and exposure. He stated, 'When I joined the league, I didn't care about money or anything else. I just wanted to play with the people I used to watch on TV. I wanted to learn from them. It doesn't matter if I play well or not. I just wanted to experience playing with and against them.' Javed is surrounded by world-class players in the Hyderabad Heroes camp. Olympic medallists like Joji Nasova and Terio Tamani from Fiji and global stars like his Spanish Captain Manu Moreno share a locker room with him which is the kind of exposure invaluable for a budding rugby player. Javed is enjoying training under one of the biggest names in world rugby, DJ Forbes, who is also a former captain of the All Blacks Sevens team. About Forbes, Javed expressed, ' I don't have any pressure from my coach, and he is the best person that I could train under. He knows my potential and strengths and directs me very well on the field. Even our captain, Manu Moreno, is very supportive. Whenever I make mistakes, he helps me a lot and he is very insightful.' Javed plays every match with his hand taped with 'Mom' and Dad' and a heart drawn on it. When asked about this gesture, he replied, 'When I used to play earlier, my family didn't have much money, but my dad still used to support me the best he could. Despite everything, whatever I asked for, if they had the facilities, they would give that to me, and I am very grateful for them.' (ANI)
