Bears bash Aces to clinch weekend series
SPRINGFIELD–The Missouri State baseball team slugged four home runs in its 7-2 win against Evansville, on Saturday, and proved why they're ranked inside the top-10 for home runs hit in all of Division I.
Except, it was the Aces breaking out the long-range missiles first. The visitors clubbed back-to-back home runs in the top of the third to jump out 2-0.
But then, Nick Rodriguez got the Bears home run derby started with a tomahawk shot over the right field fence, in the top of the 4th, that ended up on top of the indoor training facilty. His 13th long ball of the season extended his hitting streak to 28 games.
The very next inning, catcher, Carter Bergman lifted MSU's second homer of the afternoon to tie the game 2-2. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, with Mo State up 5-2, Taeg Gollart and Maxwell Knight left the yard with solo shots of their own to cap off the 7-2 victory.
The Bears have now blasted a team total of 80 home runs through 41 games this spring.

NFL analyst predicts Bears make playoff run after impressive offseason
The Chicago Bears are aiming to go from worst to first under new head coach Ben Johnson, which won't be easy in one of the toughest divisions in football. But they've had quite the impactful offseason that could make them a surprising contender. That started with the hiring of Johnson as head coach and his vision was clear in the team's new additions. Chicago overhauled the entire interior offensive line with the trades for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson and signed center Drew Dalman in free agency. They continued in the draft with tackle Ozzy Trapilo, who's competing for the starting left tackle job. Meanwhile, the Bears continued to add to their playmakers with the draft selections of tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III. They also addressed the defensive trenches with the free-agent additions of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. Bucky Brooks dubbed the Bears one of the five teams that won the 2025 offseason, where he praised the Johnson hiring and Chicago beefing up their pass blockers and pass catchers. But more than that, Brooks expects Chicago to live up to the hype (unlike last year) as a "dark horse contender" that has a chance to "enjoy a worst-to-first rise in the NFC North." "The table is set for the Bears to make a playoff run this season," wrote Brooks. "They have upgraded their play-caller, playmakers and pass protectors to ensure Williams sparks a turnaround as a sophomore." There were many who had Chicago pegged as potential contenders last season, following the selection of quarterback Caleb Williams, but that ended with a 5-12 record that included a 10-game losing streak. But this year feels different with Johnson running the show. His vision has been clear with what he's expecting, and he's the kind of leader this team was begging for last season. Although, the Bears also have the second most difficult strength of schedule this season, so they will be tested. But they'll have a chance to contend if they take care of business in the NFC North. Indianapolis Colts' Tyler Warren left off 2025 All-Rookie team projection
Indianapolis Colts' TE Tyler Warren was left off a recent 2025 All-Rookie team projection. Gennaro Filice of put together his projected All-Rookie team for the 2025 season, and not included was Indianapolis Colts' tight end Tyler Warren. With only one tight end making Filice's All-Rookie team, he went with Chicago's Colston Loveland over Warren. "Standing 6-6, 241 pounds, Loveland is a tight end who runs routes with the fluidity of a wideout," Filice wrote about Loveland. "That's what makes him special. And that's what made Sam LaPorta a rookie Pro Bowler under Ben Johnson in Detroit, so it stands to reason that Johnson will get the most out of Loveland in Chicago." Loveland was the first tight end off the board, going No. 10 overall to the Bears. How each team viewed Loveland and Warren in the draft really came down to what they were looking for at the tight end position. As Daniel Jeremiah described during the pre-draft process, Loveland comes from the Travis Kelce tree of tight ends and is a pass-catching threat first. Warren, meanwhile, comes from the Rob Gronkowski tree, able to impact the passing game but also leaving his mark in the run game as a blocker. Warren has been "very active" in the Colts' passing game during OTAs and minicamp and will make a quick impact on this offense. He can provide that unit with a big middle of the field target, and also add some unpredictability to the offense with his do-it-all skill set. 'He's been phenomenal so far," Shane Steichen said of Warren during minicamp, via NBC Sports. "Obviously, I know we don't have pads on, but his movement skills, great feel, great instincts. It'll be good this week to get another week of that work in, and then going into training camp will be great for him.' However, when it comes to being left off Filice's list, one would guess that also a part of that equation is each team's quarterback situation. Although Filice didn't mention the Colts specifically, there are obvious unknowns under center this season, while the combination of Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams has many very bullish on the Bears.

Bears All-Quarter Century Team: Quarterbacks
Twenty-five years of Chicago Bears football are in the books since the turn of the century. Since the calendar turned over to 2000, the Bears have seen some success, but also plenty of woeful stretches. Early on, Chicago became a defensive force, claiming four division titles and reaching only their second Super Bowl in franchise history from 2000 to 2010. Since then, however, a 14-year playoff victory drought that is still ongoing and a one-sided fight with their rival Green Bay Packers have taken the spotlight. For all the ups and downs the Bears have seen, however, they had plenty of talent over the years across offense and defense. Multiple former Bears players are already in the Hall of Fame, while many more provided years of incredible play in the navy and orange. Here at Bears Wire, we're celebrating the best Bears players at each position over the last 25 years. We're going position by position to name the Bears' All-Quarter Century Team for those who played from 2000 through 2024. Up first are quarterbacks, a position that the Bears have historically struggled to develop but still had stretches of productivity. Jay Cutler It's no secret that the quarterback position has been a liability for the Bears over the last 25 years. Even as the league has shifted to more of a passing focus, the Bears are still the only team without a 4,000-yard passer. They got close a couple times with Jay Cutler, though, who holds the team record for most passing yards (23,443) and touchdowns (154) in franchise history. Cutler never reached the heights many believed he would when the Bears landed him in a blockbuster trade with the Denver Broncos in 2009. He had stretches of brilliance thanks to his rocket arm and above-average athleticism, but his decision-making wound up costing the Bears more often than not. Cutler has the most 3,000-yard passing seasons in Bears history with five and led Chicago to their last playoff victory during the 2010 season. Despite his flaws, no other Bears quarterback comes close to his production over the last 25 years. Nearly 10 years after he last put on a Bears uniform, you will still find plenty of highlights circulating social media with fans marveling at Cutler's talent. Mitchell Trubisky Behind Cutler is Mitchell Trubisky, a polarizing player, but one who stands out as the second-best passer of the last 25 years. Trubisky is the only quarterback to have led the Bears to multiple postseason berths this century and has the highest passer rating of any Bears quarterback with more than 5,000 career passing yards, with 87.2. Trubisky was never a turnover machine and had efficient games during his four seasons as the primary starter. His six-touchdown performance against the Tampa Buccaneers in 2018 still lives in Bears lore. Trubisky was limited in what he could do on the field, though, and never became more than an average starter at best. The former No. 2 overall pick was never as bad on the field as some made him out to be, but his flaws were magnified given the superstar play of Patrick Mahomes, whom the Bears passed up on in favor of Trubisky. With respect to Kyle Orton's ability to manage a game, Rex Grossman's postseason success, and Justin Fields' electrifying runs, Trubisky provided the most consistency at the position for an extended period of time since 2000.
