Tiger which killed two men in seven months tracked and sedated in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district
BHOPAL: A male tiger, which killed a youth in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday afternoon, was successfully tracked and sedated 22 hours later in the jungles of the same district, also known as the land of the Jungle Book's Mowgli.
The operation, aided by three patrolling elephants of the Pench Tiger Reserve, started at around 9 am. 'The tiger was spotted at around 11.30 am in the forests located around 15 km from the Bawanthadi village, where it had killed the 18-year-old Sumit Pandre on Friday. Subsequently, the big cat was sedated using a tranquilizer dart,' the Pench Tiger Reserve's deputy director Rajnish Singh told TNIE.
The male tiger aged around five had been active in the buffer zone of the Pench Tiger Reserve and the adjoining territorial forests since November 2023. It covered a long range of 150-200 square km.

FIR filed for Aadhaar tampering to hide child marriages in TN's Krishnagiri
KRISHNAGIRI: Police on Thursday registered an FIR at two stations in Rayakottai and Denkanikottai following the report about underage mothers using tampered Aadhaar cards to show a higher age for evading child marriage arrest. TNIE on Wednesday carried an article titled 'Bride and prejudice: Aadhaar fudged to mask child marriages in Krishnagiri', wherein it was reported how the date of birth in Aadhaar cards of six child brides was allegedly changed by their relatives to evade arrest in child marriage cases in the past six months in Kelamangalam block. Following it up, Krishnagiri Collector C Dinesh Kumar asked health department officials to lodge a complaint against the culprits. Consequently, on Thursday, Kelamangalam Block Medical Officer, Dr C Rajesh Kumar, lodged a complaint at Rayakottai police station and Denkanikottai police station. Based on the complaint, both station police filed an FIR under Section 337 of BNS (forgery of record of court or of public register, etc.) As part of the probe, Rayakottai police also questioned a 35-year-old man of a photo studio at Rayakottai suspecting his involvement in the issue. However, he was let off due to lack of evidence. Police are also planning to question the child bride families as part of the inquiry.

Derailment attempt damages, breaks down train engine near Salem; Madras High Court judges escape unhurt
An apparent act of sabotage was narrowly averted on Tuesday night when unknown individuals placed an iron rail across the tracks in Salem district, aiming to derail the Yercaud-Chennai Express, according to a report by The New Indian Express. ADVERTISEMENT At approximately 9:45 p.m., as the train moved between Mavelipalayam and Magudanchavadi stations, the engine collided with the obstructing iron piece, said the report. The rail was dragged for nearly a kilometre before the locomotive came to a standstill due to mechanical failure. The incident occurred near Magudanchavadi while the train was en route from Erode to Chennai Central. Among the passengers were three sitting judges of the Madras High Court and several retired judges, reportedly returning from a memorial service. Following the mishap, teams from Erode and Salem railway stations, along with the railway police, arrived promptly to assess the situation. TNIE reported that despite efforts to restore the damaged engine, it remained non-functional after 90 minutes. A replacement locomotive was then dispatched from Salem, allowing the train to resume its journey at 11:31 p.m. ADVERTISEMENT Fortunately, none of the passengers sustained injuries. Railway officials later confirmed that all safety measures were taken and that the train was able to proceed with minimal delay once the new engine was attached. ADVERTISEMENT Railway police have launched an investigation and registered a case under two provisions of the Railways Act, 1989. K. Babu, Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police told TNIE that officers are analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and have collected material evidence from the site.'A case has been registered under two sections of the Railways Act, 1989.
