Midland City Council approves exciting projects, here's what to expect:

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Midland City Council met Tuesday and approved several exciting projects.
First, City leaders approved a $40 million expansion project at Midland International Air and Space Port that will take the TSA lines from two to 6. Council members said they hope the project will help improve wait times for travelers amid record numbers of people traveling through MAF.
'We have nine different flights going out of Midland every morning for those early morning flights and so the capacity is really great and we had a need because things were getting so backed up,' said Councilmember Robin Poole.
Mayor Lori Blong said it's all about keeping Midland open for business and ready for growth.
'We also recognize that this will be a benefit to those that are traveling through our airport who are visiting our area and so we want this to be as accessible as possible,' Blong said.
In addition to the airport expansion, Midland City leaders approved an agreement with Cinergy. The Cinergy Development Agreement ensured that the old Regal Cinemas on Loop 250, which have been vacant for several years, will be put to good use. The company said it will invest at least $24M in Midland with the expansion.
'The Cinergy Development Agreement also demonstrates our willingness and our interest in investing in quality-of-life projects for families in Midland. Cinergy is an excellent opportunity for our kids and we're all hosting birthday parties and different family events. And so, Cinergy, with this development agreement, will provide increased opportunities for families,' Blong said.
Councilman Brian Stubbs said the partnership will ensure Cinergy's presence in the Basin for at least another decade.
'Cinergy is looking to invest and grow in Midland. So, they have a 10-year commitment to keep their current facility (off Highway 80) open. And then so, this is an addition to that facility, a new building, a new attraction and a new place for Midlanders to have a better quality of life,' Stubbs said.
Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in December and should be complete by December of 2026. We've been told the new facility will house two quarter-mile interweaving go cart tracks, escape rooms, and an arcade.
The City also approved a Capital Improvements Development Agreement with Betenbough Homes for the construction of Todd Drive and a 16-inch water line in the Mockingbird Ridge subdivision. They took this action in response to a proposal from the home developer to build a new neighborhood expansion.
The homes, which won't be built until the roads leading into and out of the new neighborhood are complete, will sit on smaller lots. Additionally, Betenbough said it plans to build green areas, parks, and walking trails throughout the neighborhood.

Super Lonches is a brand-new truck that just opened a few weeks after both owners, Diana Suarez and Jesus Melendez, were inspired by Suarez's father, who also owns a food truck in El Paso. Serving Mexican Comfort Food From Scratch 'It all started with my parents,' says Suarez. 'They own a food truck in El Paso as well, and then they started from scratch. It's been almost like 20 years, and then I started helping them a few years ago. Then my parents always approached me to open my own business over here with my husband, and then I think it has already come to life now.' At Super Lonches, the star of the show is the namesake 'super lonche,' a hefty sandwich stacked on soft bolillo bread and packed with your choice of meat options, including bistek, al pastor, ham, and more. From there, it only gets bolder: layers of avocado, hot dog slices, lettuce, tomato, and house-made condiments round out the savory tower. But the love doesn't stop at the lonches. The truck also serves hand-cut French fries, made fresh daily, and refreshing aguas frescas, like cantaloupe and lemonade, perfect for the West Texas heat. Chevron & Ariat Texas Rattlers hosted second annual charity rodeo

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- For the second year in a row, Chevron and the Ariat Texas Rattlers teamed up to bring the basin an exciting matchup anchored by a landmark charity initiative. 'When Chevron and the Ariat Texas Rattlers joined together to bring the PBR Chevron Showdown to West Texas, we really wanted to make sure that we integrated charity as a part of the landmark event,' said Catie Matthews, Chevron's Public & Government Affairs Adviser. 'And so through that, the $800 for 8 Seconds program was born.' The way that the $800 for 8 Seconds program works is very simple. Every time a Rattler rider holds on for eight seconds, whether at the Chevron Showdown or throughout the entire Team Series season, an $800 donation will be given to a local community organization. The Ariat Texas Rattlers General Manager Chad Blankenship says the program helps provide his riders with some extra motivation. 'The $800 for 8 program has had a fantastic impact on our riders. You know, fundamentally, they're out there riding for themselves and to provide for their families. But when there's a program like $800 for 8 behind them, it really creates an even deeper and bigger purpose for them and their riding.' WATCH: More about the charitable impact What's the best part about being the General Manager for the Rattlers? Blankenship: 'One, it starts with the riders. To be in a role where I can support these young men to achieve their dreams, to even exceed their dreams, it's tremendously rewarding. The other piece that's been most rewarding really is just the fan engagement… A team format gives fans an opportunity to kind of come in and engage more deeply. There's hometown pride. The Texas Rattlers, of course, are based in Fort Worth, but we really ride for all of Texas, and we have thousands of fans in the Permian Basin. It's a huge privilege when the fans come and they show up and they fly the flag for the team and all the riders who are competing for them.' What's it like to have Dwight Yoakam perform? Matthews: 'Dwight Yoakum is quite the perfect fit for this event. He has that appeal of the Western culture and rodeo and just has that appeal to the people attending the event, but he also, in a way, has a special connection to Chevron. A lot of the folks here, our employees, have worked in our Bakersfield asset, and we all know Dwight is famous for the song 'Streets of Bakersfield,' so I'm sure a lot of our employees are going to enjoy hearing that.' Is it safe? Plans to reuse fracking water amid growing water shortage move forward

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Amid the growing water shortage in West Texas, the Texas Legislature has given oil and gas companies the opportunity to reuse wastewater created during the oil fracking process. State Rep. Drew Darby's House Bill 49 is now on the way Gov. Greg Abbott's desk for a final signature. Research & Development Manager at Texas Pacific Water Resources, Adrianne Lopez, guarantees Texans the water is safe for reuse. 'The contaminants things that are like that are biological or heavy metals, those have all been removed,' she said. 'The things that would make a water be considered dangerous have been removed.' Her team has worked for years on several studies to ensure the water can be used for irrigation and building projects.
