Palestinian Cause is at forefront of Arab attention with unprecedented consensus, Diaa Rashwan
CAIRO – 6 May 2025: Head of the State Information Service Diaa Rashwan, said that the Palestinian cause enjoys unprecedented Arab consensus as a major and central issue.
During his participation in the 'Listen and Talk' forum organized by Al-Azhar Observatory on Tuesday, he explained that the sacrifices of the people of Gaza refuted claims of abandoning their land.
He noted that the Zionist aggression did not stop in Gaza recently, but extended to Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Director of the Institute of Arab Research and Studies, Mohamed Kamal, also explained in his statements that traditional Western media has adopted the Zionist narrative since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza.
He added that Some newspapers issued guidelines to their writers to support this narrative, deepening the misinformation surrounding the Palestinian cause. This bias has provoked strong reactions from young people in the United States and Europe, who demonstrated at prestigious universities in defense of human rights and in rejection of double standards.
Kamal explained that youth movements reflect a growing awareness of the importance of justice, praising the role of platforms and forums such as the "Listen and Talk" forum in empowering Arab youth to confront misinformation through digital media. This aligns with Al-Azhar's commitment to promoting awareness of just causes such as the Palestinian cause.
Al-Azhar Observatory launched, Tuesday, the 4th edition of the 'Listen and Talk' forum, attended by a number of ministers and officials.
This year's edition focused on civil and volunteer work and its role in combating extremism, along with the youth's role in spreading awareness about the Palestinian cause in the age of digital media and combating the phenomenon of misinformation through enhancing community awareness.
Director of the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism, Reham Abdullah confirmed that the observatory was established in 2015 under the supervision of Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb, with the aim of protecting youth from extremism and terrorism.

Arab foreign ministers have condemned Israel's aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling it a 'blatant violation' of the sovereignty of a UN member state and a threat to regional peace and security. The statement asserted that a comprehensive regional de-escalation requires addressing the root causes of conflict, beginning with an immediate halt to the Israeli offensive in Gaza, the unrestricted and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid via UN agencies, and an end to illegal Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which they said undermine the two-state solution and prospects for a just and lasting peace. The ministers warned that Israeli policies were pushing the region further toward conflict and instability, urging effective international action to stop such measures and revive efforts for a comprehensive peace that guarantees the security of all parties—based on relevant UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative. In this context, they welcomed the convening of a high-level international conference on a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution. They urged all UN member states to actively participate in this conference, set to be co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France at the UN General Assembly in New York, once a new date for its convocation is announced. They also welcomed Egypt's offer to host a high-level international conference to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, aligned with the Islamic-Arab plan, at the earliest opportunity following a ceasefire. The ministers reaffirmed the need to respect freedom of navigation in international waterways, in accordance with international law, to prevent impacts on the global economy and energy supply chains. They stressed the necessity of adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the prohibition on the use or threat of the use of force in international relations. They called for the peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, rejecting any attempt to undermine their stability. The statement also condemned any violations of the airspace of states in the region and underlined the need to avoid targeting nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. Such actions, they said, violate international law and pose grave risks of nuclear contamination and environmental and humanitarian disaster. Finally, the ministers reiterated the call for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, in line with international resolutions and decisions by past Arab League summits, including the 34th summit held in Baghdad in May 2025. Columbia protester Mahmoud Khalil freed from immigration detention - War on Gaza
Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student who was one of the most visible leaders of nationwide pro-Palestinian campus protests, was released Friday from a federal detention center. Khalil, a legal permanent resident in the United States who is married to a US citizen and has a US-born son, has been in custody since March facing potential deportation. "This shouldn't have taken three months," Khalil, wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf, told US media outside an immigration detention center in Jena, Louisiana hours after a federal judge ordered his release. "(President Donald) Trump and his administration, they chose the wrong person for this," he said. "There's no right person who should be detained for actually protesting a genocide." The Department of Homeland Security criticized District Judge Michael Farbiarz's ruling Friday as an example of how "out of control members of the judicial branch are undermining our national security."
