Prime Video just dropped the first trailer for 'We Were Liars,' and if you were anywhere near Tumblr or BookTok in the past decade, you already know this one has a grip on people.
E. Lockhart's best-selling novel became a huge hit thanks to its haunting prose, twisty plot, and that ending no one saw coming. Now, it's getting the TV treatment and hits Prime Video on June 18.
'We Were Liars' follows a wealthy family spending their summers on a private island, where a group of teens get themselves tangled in secrets, love, and a shocking mystery that changes everything. Emily Alyn Lind takes on the role of Cadence Sinclair, the main character and narrator of the story. At first, it all looks like a dreamy summer escape (think 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' vibes) but it doesn't take long for things to shift into something much darker and more unsettling.
Lockhart's novel came out in 2014 and soon became a favorite among teen readers, earning it a spot on the New York Times YA bestseller list for more than 40 weeks.
Fans of the book already know what to expect. The story builds slowly, with bits of memory and emotion slipping through the cracks. This trailer gives just enough to stir that familiar feeling: a golden summer, the pretty people with perfect lives, and that weird sense that something's not quite right.
Whether you've read it or not, it looks like the show could keep us guessing all the way through.

Along with the trailer and release date, Prime Video also released an official synopsis: 'Based on the best-selling novel by E. Lockhart, We Were Liars, the series follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather's New England private island.
'The Sinclairs are American royalty — known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond — but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence's life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.'
The entire eight-episode limited series will be available to stream starting June 18, 2025, only on Prime Video, and will be accessible in over 240 countries and regions.

Lind stars as Cadence Sinclair, with Shubham Maheshwari playing Gat, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair, and Joseph Zada portraying Johnny Sinclair. The adult cast includes Caitlin FitzGerald as Penny Sinclair, Mamie Gummer as Carrie Sinclair, Candice King as Bess Sinclair, Rahul Kohli as Ed, and David Morse as Harris Sinclair.
'We Were Liars' is written and executive produced by co-showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie. Emily Cummins, Brett Matthews, Pascal Verschooris, and author E. Lockhart also serve as executive producers for the series.
Plec is set to adapt the prequel novel as well, which dives into the hidden history of another generation of the Sinclair family. In a recent interview with Deadline, she teased that there are already plans for a potential season 2, which could explore more of the storyline from Family of Liars:
'I think fans of the book are going to be very, very happy, because I think we hit all the marks and all the beats that the book does, and then also expand the universe.
'Layers upon layers upon layers to really make the adult characters really nuanced and really multi-layered, and to set the stage for season 2, which theoretically is going to take us deeper into the moms' lives as well and add another generation to the story.'

For those who haven't read the book yet, don't be tempted to search up more plot details online. The twists and turns in 'We Were Liars' are best experienced without knowing what's coming. If you're curious, it's definitely worth going into the show blind, as discovering the mystery along with the characters is half the fun.
With a chilling new trailer that teases plenty of dark secrets and emotional twists, 'We Were Liars' is shaping up to be a must-watch next month, and I know I've already added it to my watchlist.

Prime Video has cleared up the buzz around The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 rollout. Season Three is helmed by showrunners Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka, with both also serving as executive producers alongside Karen Rosenfelt, Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen of wiip. Wife of Weezer Bassist Appears in Court, Wins Delay in LAPD Shooting Case
Jillian Lauren, the bestselling author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been granted more time to review the 'voluminous' video showing the bizarre LAPD shooting that left her wounded in her own backyard. Officials say she fired first. Lauren, 51, has pleaded not guilty to charges she willfully fired at several police officers who were shouting at her over a fence while searching for hit-and-run suspects allegedly attempting to hide in her neighbors' backyards. No officers were hit, but several fired their own weapons at Lauren during the chaotic scene on April 8. The judge was initially dubious. 'It sounds like a relatively straightforward case. Why do you need so much time?' Los Angeles County Judge Susan J. DeWitt asked from the bench. 'We're still working our way through the voluminous discovery,' Wakefield said. 'It's a lot of video camera footage. It's taking a long time to review. We're also evaluating potential motions we intend to file.' The judge asked Lauren if she agreed to the postponement. 'Yes, your honor,' Lauren responded. The judge then set a follow-up hearing for July 22 and told Lauren she had the right to a probable cause hearing within 30 days of that date. Lauren and Wakefield declined to comment as they left the courthouse. According to the LAPD, Lauren racked her gun and fired it during the alleged standoff with officers who were on the other side of a fence, searching for the hit-and-run suspects. Body-worn camera and home-surveillance video released by the LAPD on YouTube showed the minutes leading up to the alleged exchange of gunfire. In the nearly 22-minute compilation, multiple officers are heard repeatedly yelling at a woman, instructing her to drop her gun. The woman is not seen or heard in the video recorded by the officers. The fence was too high for the height of the body-worn cameras, and the scene appeared hectic, with the loud drone of a police helicopter overhead. Toward the end of the exchange, one officer identifies himself as 'police' while another shouts that he's with the California Highway Patrol. It's not clear if the officers' uniforms could be seen over the fence. A separate video from Lauren's home-surveillance system, also released by the LAPD, gave a different perspective. It shows Lauren exiting her house holding a black handgun and walking around the perimeter, looking around. The video appears to show Lauren manipulating and firing the gun, but it's recorded from a distance and has no sound. After what appears to be a slight recoil, Lauren walks away, looking relatively calm. According to the police body-worn footage, as soon as an officer warned, 'Oh, she racked it,' police opened fire, unloading a barrage of ear-splitting shots. In her home-surveillance video, Lauren does not appear to react to multiple shots or exhibit any injury in the seconds after she allegedly fired. About an hour after the shooting, Lauren exited her home and was arrested without incident. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound on her arm. She was later booked in absentia on suspicion of attempted murder and released on $1 million bail. Prosecutors ultimately charged her with firing a gun with gross negligence and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. In a 911 call also released by police, someone inside Lauren's home can be heard telling an operator that Lauren was apparently shot by one of the suspects of the manhunt. Lauren is heard talking in the background, explaining what happened. 'I had my gun, and he said, 'Put down that gun. Put down that gun.' I said, 'Put down your fucking gun.' And then he shot me,' Lauren says in the call released by the LAPD. 'There are three men out at the other side of this fence here.' According to police, investigators recovered a 9mm Glock handgun and a spent shell casing from Lauren's residence. Lauren and Shriner have not commented publicly on the incident. Lauren released her first memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, in 2010, and her second, Everything You Ever Wanted, in May 2015. Both books are New York Times bestsellers. Angel Reese releases 'Mebound' clothing line, acknowledging criticism and raising money to fight cyberbullying
Angel Reese's new line of merchandise, "Mebounds," was released on Thursday as the Chicago Sky forward continues the fight against cyberbullying during her second season in the WNBA. Reese trademarked the word "Mebound," which was initially coined to mock her rebounding her own missed shots. While embracing the criticism, Reese took the term and flipped it into a positive message. Advertisement Reese announced the merchandise line on her X account with a video showing the different designs from the latest release. The former LSU star wrote that some of the proceeds will go to the Angel C. Reese Foundation to "help fight against cyberbullying." The line includes sweatshirts, T-shirts and hats featuring the "Mebounds" slogan, and several pieces include the line: "Anything that comes off that board, it's mine." The pieces are available on Reese's website. On an Instagram story promoting the new clothing line, Reese restated her foundation's mission, "to help fight cyberbullying, raise awareness, and create safe online spaces for the next generation. Because every rebound — and every Mebound — is power reclaimed." Advertisement Reese has advocated against cyberbullying toward athletes and girls in general. Apart from addressing the subject on her "Unapologetically Angel" podcast, Reese has made other efforts to create safe online spaces. In August 2024, Reese collaborated with "The Net" Mental Health Network to launch the "Block The Negativity Post Up Positivity' campaign. The partnership produced a video, later posted on the Sky's YouTube channel, highlighting that 87% of female athletes experience online harm. The Angel C. Reese Foundation was founded in 2023 with various initiatives to empower women through education, mentorship and sports. Apart from back-to-school giveaways and plans to open basketball courts in Chicago, Reese recently partnered with the Magic Johnson Foundation to launch a financial literacy program in Baltimore, where Reese is from. "Mebound" is the latest project as Reese aims to expand her impact beyond the basketball court. Advertisement In her second year in Chicago, Reese is already averaging a double-double with 11 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. She led the WNBA in rebounds as a rookie with A'ja Wilson and Jonquel Jones sitting second and third, respectively. The Sky sit fifth in the Eastern Conference and 11th in the WNBA with a 3-8 record.
