Ahmad Zahid, Fadillah hail dads as 'captains of the family' in Father's Day tribute
KUALA LUMPUR: In a heartfelt Father's Day message, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof paid tribute to fathers nationwide for their unwavering love and quiet sacrifices that shape families and strengthen society.
Both leaders likened fathers to the "captain of the family," a steadfast figure who navigates life's challenges to steer loved ones safely forward.
In a Facebook post on Sunday (June 15), Ahmad Zahid reflected that a father's love is seldom spoken but is present in every effort, prayer and drop of sweat shed without complaint.
"Behind a calm face and steady steps lie countless sacrifices. He may say little, yet his presence shields the family, his strength carries them, and his love binds them together."
He added that every man who fulfils a paternal role, be it father, grandfather, uncle or other father‑figure-is "the anchor in life's storm, the strength of the family and the backbone of the nation."
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, urged Malaysians to cherish their fathers while they still can, embracing them with love, and offering heartfelt prayers for those who have passed on.
In a separate post, Fadillah highlighted this year's Father's Day theme, 'Ayahku Kapten Keluarga' (My Father, the Captain of the Family), which captures the pivotal role of fathers as protectors and pillars of strength.
"A father always wants the best for his family-safety, happiness, completeness-even if it means sacrificing everything he has," said Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.
Fadillah noted that fathers are not only providers but role models of character and virtue, offering unconditional love and tireless devotion without expecting anything in return.
He added that Islam accords high esteem to filial piety, with Qur'anic verses highlighting the duty to honour and thank both parents, especially the father. – Bernama

Foreign Claims Dismissed, Sabah's Sovereignty Remains Intact
KOTA KINABALU, June 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's success in fending off foreign claims over Sabah reaffirms the state's sovereignty under the Federation of Malaysia and offers assurance and relief to the people of Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He expressed gratitude to the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the government's commitment to protecting the rights and sovereignty of the state. He said that the state government greatly values the various forms of assistance and initiatives provided by the federal government, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security. 'The strong ties and close cooperation with the federal government will continue to be upheld to ensure that Sabah is not left behind in national development,' he said. Hajiji said this in his address at the 2025 Sabah State Honours and Awards investiture ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu today, where 60 individuals were conferred state honours, awards and medals by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Hajiji also gave his assurance that the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive development policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap will be further enhanced as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the progress and well-being of Sabahans. He said that since its introduction, the road map has had a significant impact, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, investment, agriculture, human capital development, and the overall well-being of the people. He added that the state government is focusing on the development of the agricultural sector, which plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in Sabah, noting that the key initiatives include the establishment of the Sabah Padi and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), aimed at raising the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent to 60 per cent by 2030. Hajiji also said the state government has approved the establishment of the Sabah TVET Council to coordinate and monitor technical and vocational education and training in line with current industry needs.

SIS Forum Appeal Not Concerned With Substantive Beliefs, Doctrine Of Islamic Faith, Says Federal Court
PUTRAJAYA, June 21 (Bernama) — The appeal by Sisters in Islam (SIS) Forum (Malaysia) does not concern the substantive beliefs in the religion of Islam, its mandates or doctrines relating to the Islamic faith but relates to the exercise of legal powers by certain state authorities, says the Federal Court in its judgment. Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat said the challenge only concerned the review of the Selangor State Fatwa Committee, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and the Selangor government's exercise of certain powers under the law, which is distinct from the substance and contents of their decisions. 'While it concerns a certain fatwa (religious edict), the case has neither to do with the substantive beliefs held in the religion of Islam nor does it have anything to do with the administration of the substantive aspects of the religion of Islam,' she said in the 40-page majority judgment. The top judge said in all civilised democracies with independent judiciaries, it is routine for the executive's decisions to be subjected to judicial review and in most cases, the subject matter of the exercise of discretion in the plaint is not the main issue rather the manner in which the decision was made. On Thursday, the Federal Court bench, in a 3-1 majority ruling, held that the 2014 fatwa issued by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee and gazetted by the Selangor state government is valid, but only insofar as it applies to individuals, not companies. The court ruled that a fatwa cannot be imposed on an organisation like SIS Forum as it is not capable of professing a religion. The ruling partially allowed the appeal by SIS Forum and its co-founder Zainah Mahfoozah Anwar to quash the 2014 fatwa, which had declared the group as deviating from Islamic teachings. In the written judgment released on the judiciary's website, Justice Tengku Maimun explained that the Selangor state government and the religious bodies are part of the executive branch and are empowered by the Federal Constitution and laws passed by the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (SLA). 'The fact that they deal with matters pertaining to Islamic faith, dogma and doctrine – are beside the point and these matters are, in any event, not within our purview (of the Civil Court),' she said.
