Condo Car Fire: 11 Foreigners Suffer Breathing Problems

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Eleven foreign men encountered breathing difficulties after thick smoke engulfed the basement car park of a condominium in Wangsa Maju here this morning following a vehicle fire.
A spokesperson for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGOKL) stated today that they received a distress call at 9.45 am before a team from the Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.
The spokesperson said the engine of a Nissan Teana was 30 per cent burnt, causing the basement to be filled with smoke. All victims were rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, at a press conference the following day, said the police would hold discussions with the relevant departments and agencies soon to determine the actual cause of the explosions and tremors. Couple held for series of housebreaking, robbery cases since January

MELAKA: Police have arrested a couple suspected of involvement in seven housebreaking and robbery cases in Melaka and neighbouring states since January. Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the unemployed couple, aged 24 and 31, were arrested in Kuala Kurau, Perak, on June 4. "On May 28, police received two reports involving housebreaking and robbery in the Melaka Tengah district, linked to the couple. "Their modus operandi included targeting homestays and stealing various electrical appliances and furniture," he said in a statement today. Initial investigations found they were involved in three housebreaking and robbery cases in Melaka Tengah, and four others in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Various items were seized, including electrical appliances, furniture, a gold bracelet, two cars, five pawnshop receipts, and five mobile phones. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 392 for robbery. In a separate development, Christopher said a clothing dealer was arrested for allegedly firing a shot from an air pistol at Jalan Johor, Semabok, on June 8. "Following intelligence gathering and a public tip-off, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Puchong, Selangor, on June 17. Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
