Daily Mirrora day ago

James Prime of Deacon Blue has died aged 64, the band have confirmed. In a statement, the band said: "We announce with great sadness that our brother, James Prime, passed away this morning after a short struggle with cancer.
"Thank you so much for the messages of support that you shared over the last two weeks, they meant so much to Jim, his family and us." The heartbreaking news comes just days after James was receiving care in the hospital after falling seriously ill.
The band shared last week: "Unfortunately he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him." The band - also comprising Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond, Gregor Philp, Lewis Gordon and Tom Gordon -insisted they were given their bandmate's "full blessing" to go on tour without him.
It continued: "We spoke to Jim yesterday about Deacon Blue's plans for the rest of the year, and he encouraged us to continue with love in our hearts and with his full blessing that the shows go ahead, even if it means replacing the irreplaceable James Miller Prime for the time being.
"Together with Jim's family, we want to thank all the nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and compassion." James, who was born in Kilmarnock and also worked as a university lecturer, had been with Deacon Blue since its inception in the 1980s.
The band is known for their chart-topping hits such as Dignity, Chocolate Girl and Real Gone Kid. The band has undergone several line-up changes over the years, with past members including Graeme Kelling, Ewen Vernal, Mick Slaven, Scott Fraser, Taj Wyzgowski, Ged Grimes and Chris Henderson.
Deacon Blue's 1987 debut album Raintown reached number 14 in the UK Albums Chart. Their 1989 follow-up When the World Knows Your Name hit number one, with its lead single Real Gone Kid nominated for British Single of the Year at the Brit Awards, ultimately losing to Perfect by Fairground Attraction.
After a hiatus in 1994, the band reunited in 1999 and have remained active ever since.

Dave Myers wife opens up on heartbreaking guilt she feels over Hairy Bikers star's death

Lili opened up on ITV's Lorraine as she discussed new book, Dave and Me. Dave Myers' wife has opened up about the "guilt" she's suffered over her beloved husband's death. Liliana Orzac was left devastated when the the Hairy Bikers star passed away in February 2024 at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer. A year after his sad passing, Lili joined Ranvir Singh on ITV's Lorraine earlier today (Friday, June 20) to talk about her new book, which details her relationship with the much-loved celebrity chef. Dave and Lili met in 2005 while he and best pal Si King were filming the first series of the Hairy Bikers in Romania, writes The Mirror. Lili's new memoir, Dave and Me, looks back on her life with her beloved husband, recounting their meeting, the blossoming of their relationship, and the adventures that followed as they built a life together in the UK. The book also delves into the challenges the couple faced during Dave's cancer diagnosis, as well as their journey through treatment and the heartbreaking final days they spent together. Speaking on today's Lorraine, Lili said: "It's an enormous thing to hear that word, cancer. But when you hear that, you don't fully understand the consequences of the treatment or the journey that's coming after that word. "The steps on hospital corridors, the shattered dreams, the plans you had for the future that are not going to be there anymore." She continued: "Afterwards, you're beating yourself up for thinking, 'I should have, I would have'. And the guilt you haven't done enough, and, 'How could I let this happen in my care'?" Ranvir went on to share how Lili's journey with Dave reminded her of her friend Kate Garraway. The Good Morning Britain presenter lost her husband, Derek Draper, last year after he suffered several complications with coronavirus. "I followed her journey, and I can totally feel for what she went through," Lili replied. Last year, 45,000 bikers - led by Si - participated in Dave Day, journeying from London to Dave's hometown of Barrow-in-Furness to pay their respects to the late star. Lili and Dave's friend, Jason Woodcock, has now confirmed that the event will return to Barrow this weekend. "Thousands of bikers are going to join us [tomorrow] and we have a full weekend of celebrations in Barrow-in-Furness. The community is coming together, the biking community, the community in Barrow-in-Furness coming together," Lili concluded. Last year, it was announced that Dave had passed away in a heartbreaking post. A statement posted to X, formerly known as Twitter from Si King, read: "Hi everyone, I'm afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years. Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave's wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. "All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu, who Dave loved like his own. Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow. "I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god's speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya."

EastEnders star addresses Alfie 'exit' and teases huge Zoe Slater twist

EastEnders' Alfie Moon actor Shane Richie recently spoke to The Mirror about a story 'bigger than the 40th' coming up that seems to be about Zoe Slater, linked to his break from the BBC soap Actor Shane Richie has addressed his 'exit' from EastEnders, as his character Alfie Moon left for some time away in Australia. Of course fans know this wasn't where he was really headed, after he'd told wife Kat Slater how he was going to visit his brother Spencer Moon. Just days earlier, Alfie had visited Kat's cousin Stacey Slater only to find his stepdaughter, Kat's daughter, Zoe Slater there too. ‌ This was Michelle Ryan's big return to the role and the BBC soap for the first time in 20 years. Now she's making a permanent return, but this week we saw her flee and didn't reveal where she was going. ‌ Stacey and Alfie were sure she'd fled back to Spain, while she appeared to be in big trouble there. It soon turned out she'd made up death threats and messages about some money she owed, and Zoe confessed she was hiding a massive secret. As she prepared to tell Alfie and Stacey what was going on, she refused to reunite with her mother Kat and banned them from telling her she was there. She hinted whatever she was hiding was "unforgivable" and really bad, and no one could know. But before we could find out what it was she ran away, with Alfie and Stacey desperately trying to track her down. On Thursday night we saw Alfie leave the Square 'for Australia', while it was clear Kat wasn't convinced. Alfie told Stacey he was going to bring Zoe home and set off to track her down. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror before the scenes aired, Alfie actor Shane addressed his onscreen 'exit' and explained where he was in real life. He also appeared to tease how long Alfie would be gone for after his claims it would be two weeks tops. Shane explained he was off for around a month, not filming in this time. ‌ This doesn't mean he will be offscreen for this amount of time or longer, but it could well mean Alfie extends his trip out of the Square. He told us: "I've been away for four or five weeks because I've been on tour with my mates. "I'm coming back and reading scripts and going, 'Oh my God!". So the tour paved the way for Alfie's own break from Walford, with it written in that he would go and find returning character Zoe. ‌ Whether he manages to bring her back remains to be seen, but Zoe will be back onscreen this summer. Actress Michelle teased a massive storyline they were currently filming for her return, teasing "high stakes" with multiple night shoots. While Shane didn't mention Zoe or actress Michelle at all when we spoke to him, with the return still under wraps at this point, he appeared to tease the big plot that Michelle has this week referred to. Teasing a storyline "bigger than the 40th episodes", he revealed a huge plot was kicking off that would run until at least the New Year. Teasing all, Shane revealed new producer Ben Wadey had huge things planned for the show. The actor told us: "He has told me some things. I said let me sit down. ‌ "There's fireworks, there's Kat and Alfie. There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after C hristmas. Honestly it's a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story. That's all I'm saying." Shane also teased there was more drama to come for Alfie's son Tommy Moon and his pal and now blackmailer Joel Marshall, who assaulted a woman this week and had Tommy film it. Amid Tommy's turmoil, Shane teased things would continue in scenes yet to be aired after Alfie's exit. He hinted of what was to come for Tommy and Joel: "[It will continue]. While I was away something [big was being filmed]." He didn't give anything away but confirmed it was while Alfie was away.

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Laila Rouass reunite with £2m decision made ahead of quitting UK

The snooker ace, known as 'The Rocket', parted ways with the Strictly Come Dancing star last year after a 13-year relationship. Their breakup coincided with what many consider to have been O'Sullivan's toughest period professionally, having played sparingly in 2025 before entering this year's world championship. ‌ However, it seems the couple have now reunited, with reports indicating they are back together. The Sun claims that O'Sullivan and Rouass are not only reuniting but also planning a move to Dubai and have put their £2m home up for sale ahead of relocating. ‌ A source said: "They have been back together for a while. The time apart gave them time to think about what they want and what is important to them - and that is being together. "Ronnie is moving to the Middle East and Laila is going with him. They've talked about living in Dubai, which is just a two-hour flight from where Ronnie has his snooker academy in Saudi Arabia. "He has spoken to people on his snooker circuit about the move and is excited about a clean break from the UK for him and Laila. They have had their issues in the past but Ronnie and Laila have worked through it and seem really happy again. She will be joining him in the Middle East and they'll see how it goes." ‌ Earlier this year, they listed their £2million property in Epping Forest for sale in preparation for their relocation. A source told The Mirror: "The property has now been sold, subject to contract." The news of the couple's reunion comes after Rouass broke her silence on their original separation back in March. Taking to Instagram, she said: "Break ups can strip you down to your essence," she wrote. It's normal, don't beat yourself up. "One thing I'm conscious of not doing is trying to get back where I was. No, I'm discovering who I've become. I've gone through various emotions... hurt, pain, anger but what I've realised about anger is that it's bottomless." O'Sullivan reached the World Championship semi-finals in May, where he was defeated by eventual champion Zhao Xintong at the Crucible.
