Two Chinese nationals arrested on India-Nepal border for ‘suspicious activities'
Two Chinese nationals have been arrested from the Jatahi-Pipraun border in Madhubani district of Bihar after they were allegedly seen taking photographs in the sensitive border area late Wednesday evening.
Madhubani Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar confirmed that the two have been nabbed from the India-Nepal border in a joint operation by the district police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
'Both individuals have been arrested under the Foreigners Act 1946. During inspection, we couldn't find any valid travel documents or visas. During initial questioning, it was revealed that they had been travelling in Nepal for the past three months and have crossed the border in the last few days,' the officer said,
SP Kumar further added: 'During our preliminary investigation, we found some questionable content on their mobile phones, which can't be disclosed right now as investigations are still ongoing. However, we will be taking them on remand for further interrogation, and if needed, we will also seek assistance from central agencies'.
Local sources claimed that some 'anti-India videos' have been found on one of the suspect's phones. They also claimed that while communication was difficult with the suspects — only one of whom spoke some English — translators and language experts were called in to assist with the investigation.
Authorities are now trying to establish the identities, motives and activities of both individuals, officials said.

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): A tribal family in Chhattisgarh's Maoist-hit Bijapur district has alleged that their sole breadwinner, a mid-day meal cook at a local government school, was killed in a 'staged encounter' by security forces- a claim the state police have rejected. Mahesh Kudiyan had been working as a mid-day meal cook at a local government school since 2023, according to his family and the school's headmaster. (Sourced) On June 10, security forces said they had killed seven Maoists, including a wanted cadre named Sudhakar, during an operation inside the dense forests of Indravati National said that among the bodies later identified was that of Mahesh Kudiyam, a 35-year-old resident of a remote village under the Madded block. However, Mahesh's family alleged that he had no connection with Maoists and he was a cook at a local school. Mahesh's widow, Sumitra Kudiyam, said, 'My husband had gone to the forest to fetch our cattle. By evening, he hadn't returned. Later, we heard from villagers that he had been taken by security forces and the next day, he was declared a Maoist and shown dead in the encounter.' 'He was innocent. We are poor but law-abiding. My children (seven, four of whom are school-going) keep asking when their father will return. I don't know how I will raise them alone,' she said. Another villager, Irma Veladi, said, 'We saw security personnel take him from near the forest. He was unarmed, simply looking for his cattle. The next thing we heard was that he was killed as a Maoist. It is wrong.' Ramesh Uppal, the headmaster of the local government school and Mahesh's employer, confirmed his identity and role in the school. 'Mahesh joined us as a mid-day meal cook in 2023. He worked regularly and earned ₹ 1,200 per month. He was last present at the school in April this year,' said Uppal. However, the Bastar police in a statement on Sunday said that the killing took place during a series of anti-Maoist operations carried out in the National Park area of Bijapur district. The operations, the statement said, were based on intelligence inputs and resulted in the recovery of seven bodies after exchanges of fire with Maoists. Among the deceased were two top Maoist leaders — Gautam alias Sudhakar, a Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist), and Bhaskar Rao, a State Committee member of the same group. According to the press statement, one of the other deceased was identified as Mahesh Kodiyam, a resident of Irpagutta village under Farsegarh police station limits. The statement said that, based on inquest proceedings, Mahesh was a party member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and was associated with the outfit's operations in the National Park division. It further noted that Mahesh had worked as a cook assistant at the primary school in Irpagutta, appointed by the local school management committee, and had received wages until March 2025. The note stated that an investigation was underway to determine how he came into contact with top Maoist leaders like Sudhakar and Bhaskar Rao. IG Bastar Range Sunderraj P, quoted in the release, said: 'The security operation was based on credible intelligence inputs and local-level information. Weapons, Maoist literature, and other items were recovered from the encounter site. Regarding Mahesh Kodiyam, available intelligence indicates his links with the outlawed organisation. However, if any suspicious or contradictory circumstances come to light, we are committed to conducting a fair and impartial investigation.' The statement also reiterated a call to all individuals with direct or indirect links to the banned CPI (Maoist) to sever ties with the outfit, warning that continued association poses a threat not just to public safety but also to the lives of those involved.

The local police arrested An after a man attending a job interview at his company complained that his wallet was missing. In the complaint, the man said An had been acting suspiciously and that he received a call from the bank, informing him that someone had used the credit card to buy a return air ticket to a foreign country in An's name. After apprehending An, the police officers also discovered two wallets belonging to men surnamed Zhou and Zhang at his home. 'I left my wallet on the check-in counter and went to a nearby counter to pack my luggage. When I returned two minutes later, my wallet was gone. It was so incredible,' said Mr Zhang. Prior to the arrest, An was planning to fly to Africa, for which he had even received the necessary vaccines. Chhattisgarh: Two Surrendered Maoists Abducted, Murdered in Bijapur District
The shadow of insurgency deepened once again in Chhattisgarh's conflict-hit Bijapur district, as Maoist rebels executed two civilians, who had surrendered earlier. The two were murdered in a late-night assault on Saturday. Both the victims were recently surrendered Maoists. They had laid down arms only months ago in hopes of rebuilding a peaceful life. The attack occurred in Empur village under the Pamed police station area, where a group of armed Maoists abducted the men from their homes. "Their bruised and lifeless bodies were later found in the nearby area. The victims have been identified as Samaiya, a former Maoist who surrendered earlier this year, and Veko Deva, a resident of Empur village," Chandrakant Governa, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, told IANS. Both men were abducted from their homes in the Naxal-affected villages of Sendrabor and Empur by a group of armed Maoists, the officer said. According to local sources, they were brutally assaulted before being executed. Their bodies were later dumped in the village, triggering panic among residents. A group of armed Maoists stormed the residence of a surrendered cadre late Saturday evening. The victim, along with another villager, was forcibly taken away and later executed on suspicion of being a police informer, they said. "The bodies were discovered early Sunday, prompting the Bijapur police to dispatch a verification team to the site," the police officer said. This latest act of violence comes amid intensified anti-Maoist operations across the state. Security forces have recently launched coordinated offensives such as Operation Black Forest and Operation Kagar, resulting in the elimination of several high-ranking Maoist leaders, including CPI(Maoist) General Secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju. This marks the fifth targeted killing in the district in just seven days, underscoring a dangerous escalation in retaliation tactics as Maoists react to intensified security operations in the region. These successes, however, appear to have provoked retaliatory attacks by the insurgents, who have increasingly targeted civilians and surrendered cadres. The killings also coincide with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, during which he is expected to review the state's counterinsurgency strategy and meet with security personnel in Narayanpur. Police officials have reiterated their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of civilians in conflict-affected zones. Investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures are being considered in vulnerable areas.
