Chhattisgarh: Two Surrendered Maoists Abducted, Murdered in Bijapur District
The shadow of insurgency deepened once again in Chhattisgarh's conflict-hit Bijapur district, as Maoist rebels executed two civilians, who had surrendered earlier.
The two were murdered in a late-night assault on Saturday. Both the victims were recently surrendered Maoists. They had laid down arms only months ago in hopes of rebuilding a peaceful life.
The attack occurred in Empur village under the Pamed police station area, where a group of armed Maoists abducted the men from their homes. "Their bruised and lifeless bodies were later found in the nearby area. The victims have been identified as Samaiya, a former Maoist who surrendered earlier this year, and Veko Deva, a resident of Empur village," Chandrakant Governa, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, told IANS.
Both men were abducted from their homes in the Naxal-affected villages of Sendrabor and Empur by a group of armed Maoists, the officer said.
According to local sources, they were brutally assaulted before being executed. Their bodies were later dumped in the village, triggering panic among residents.
A group of armed Maoists stormed the residence of a surrendered cadre late Saturday evening. The victim, along with another villager, was forcibly taken away and later executed on suspicion of being a police informer, they said.
"The bodies were discovered early Sunday, prompting the Bijapur police to dispatch a verification team to the site," the police officer said.
This latest act of violence comes amid intensified anti-Maoist operations across the state. Security forces have recently launched coordinated offensives such as Operation Black Forest and Operation Kagar, resulting in the elimination of several high-ranking Maoist leaders, including CPI(Maoist) General Secretary Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraju.
This marks the fifth targeted killing in the district in just seven days, underscoring a dangerous escalation in retaliation tactics as Maoists react to intensified security operations in the region. These successes, however, appear to have provoked retaliatory attacks by the insurgents, who have increasingly targeted civilians and surrendered cadres.
The killings also coincide with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, during which he is expected to review the state's counterinsurgency strategy and meet with security personnel in Narayanpur.
Police officials have reiterated their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of civilians in conflict-affected zones. Investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures are being considered in vulnerable areas.

Works on Sankar Vilas flyover to begin despite pending land issues
Guntur: Notwithstanding the pending legal issues with regard to land acquisition, the district administration has decided to kick-start the works on the prestigious Sankar Vilas flyover. The first phase of the four-lane rail over bridge (ROB) will be launched from AC college junction (East constituency). The Union govt has granted Rs 98 crore to take up the long-pending flyover project almost eight months ago. Curiously, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) could not complete land acquisition due to strong resistance from the owners of commercial properties on Brodipet main road. About 50 property owners approached the court and got stay orders on acquisition of their properties until payment of compensation under the land acquisition Act. However, GMC had been negotiating them to accept the transferable development rights (TDR) bonds as it did not have sufficient funds to give the compensation in cash. The GMC estimated that it would require at least Rs 50 crore to clear the compensation through land acquisition Act. While the property owners have been waiting for the relief, district administration gave them a shocker by deciding to launch the work. Sources said that this is a strategic attempt to push the property owners, who refused to budge and accept the TDR bonds as compensation, into a corner. Sources said that the main road on both the sides of existing ROB will be closed for vehicular movement from Monday and R&B department will start bringing down the existing flyover before laying the pillars for the new obe.

NIA arrests one more accused in Maoists Northern Region Bureau terror revival conspiracy case
ANI 22 Jun 2025, 19:47 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key accused in a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB) terror revival conspiracy case from Delhi, the probe agency said on Sunday. NIA also seized devices including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material during a search in the West Delhi house of the accused, identified as Vishal Singh, originally hailing from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. According to NIA, investigations have revealed that the accused, a member of the CPI (Maoist), had delivered a drone to leaders of the banned terror outfit in Chhakarbanda/Panchrukhiya forest area of Bihar to further its violent anti-national activities. He had imparted technical training to other cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members in the deep forest areas of Bihar in 2019. NIA in August 2024, had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, in-charge of the State Organising Committee (SOC) Haryana and Punjab of CPI (Maoist). The case relates to the terror organisation's conspiracy to re-energise its decrepit influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, comprising UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The conspiracy involves recruitment of cadres and strengthening of the organisation in the region through underground cadres working in urban areas, along with some Over Ground Workers (OGWs) operating in the guise of activists, the probe agency said. Several front organisations and student wings have been used to prepare the ground for promoting the conspiracy, aimed at waging war against the Government of India. They were receiving funds from the outfit's Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB), particularly from Jharkhand. Further investigation is underway. (ANI)
