A monster home run on Saturday wasn't enough to keep Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez from being sent to the minors.
The 23-year-old catcher was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse Sunday afternoon ahead of the team's series finale against the Phillies on 'Sunday Night Baseball.'
Fellow catcher Hayden Senger was called up to take Alvarez's spot on the roster.
Alvarez, once the Mets' top prospect, has struggled at the plate, slashing .236/.319/.333 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 138 plate appearances this year.
