Jordan Brand Officially Reveals Luka Doncic's Next Signature Sneaker — and a New Takedown Model

Yahoo17-03-2025

Luka Doncic used the occasion of his first game against the Dallas Mavericks to wear his next signature sneaker for the first time, and now Jordan Brand is ready to talk about it — along with a new takedown model.
The Jordan Luka 4 will launch in April alongside Doncic's first takedown model, the Jordan .77, which will be available for $20 cheaper.

As the more advanced of the two sneakers, the Luka 4 is the first in the series to make use of a Zoom Air unit. It works in conjunction with a Cushlon 3.0 midsole. A visibly reshaped IsoPlate sees the technology made specifically for Doncic refined as it uses stability and torsional rigidity to keep the foot in place. Additional lockdown comes from the return of breathable Flightwire cables, used previously on the Luka 1 and making a return once again on the lateral side of the upper.
The outsole then features a compass pattern with the letters in his first name replacing the letters for north, east, south and west as a nod to Luka's love of wristwatches. 'Space Navigate' and 'Gone Fishing,' two early colorways for the Luka 4, are then modeled after Slovenia's Lake Bled and Doncic's love for fishing, respectively. The former edition is the same one Doncic wore in his 'Revenge Game' with the lakers.
'The Luka 4 is made exactly for my game, giving me a new tool to help me play my best and push my performance,' Doncic said in a press release. 'The IsoPlate really helps me with my balance and my step-backs, the Zoom Air unit adds a new level of responsiveness, and the Cushlon 3.0 midsole makes this a very comfortable shoe.'
An IsoPlate and Zoom Air unit carry over to the Luka .77, Doncic's first takedown model, which uses a dual-density foam underfoot and seven strategic heel cutouts. High-abrasion mesh is intended for durability and ventilation, the latter of which could be especially useful when being worn away from the indoors.
'The Luka .77 is for the kids — and for anyone who hoops outdoors,' Doncic said. 'When I was young, I used to play mostly outside but didn't have footwear made for that environment, so I wanted to make a shoe for the next generation, giving them a tool to help them develop their game wherever they lace up.'
The Jordan Luka 4 and Luka .77 will both release April 8 through Jordan Brand's website and select third-party retailers. Pricing for the former is set at $120 and the latter $100.

Mavericks Vet Makes Major Free Agency Decision: Report

Mavericks Vet Makes Major Free Agency Decision: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Following a 2024 playoff run that led them back to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years, the Dallas Mavericks' future looked pretty bright in 2024-25. Advertisement But Dallas general manager Nico Harrison shocked the world when he traded franchise centerpiece Luka Donic, already a five-time All-NBA First Teamer with the club at age 25, to the Los Angeles Lakers for a relatively muted return. Doncic and big men Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris were shipped off to L.A. in exchange for oft-hurt 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, who was 31 at the time, plus shooting guard Max Christie and a single future first round draft pick. The Lakers and Mavericks both rerouted 2025 second round selections to the Utah Jazz, as L.A. needed to include a third team to take on the contract of little-used second-year guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. Bringing in Davis, still a terrific two-way player, for the much younger Doncic wasn't a terrible All-Star-for-All-Star haul if Harrison was truly unconvinced that Doncic was capable of repeating his 2024 success — the big issue was the returning draft equity. For comparison's sake, the Orlando Magic just had to surrender four first round picks, plus one first round pick swap, to acquire shooting guard Desmond Bane — who has never been an All-Star and gets hurt with frustrating frequency — from the Memphis Grizzlies. Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Harrison's asset management came under harsh scrutiny... for a time. Advertisement But when the Mavericks fell out of the playoff hunt and lucked into the No. 1 pick in this month's upcoming 2025 NBA Draft (sure to be Duke superstar forward Cooper Flagg), all was (almost) forgiven. Now, another key roster piece has made a decision on his future in Dallas. Sources inform Marc Stein of The Stein Line (via Substack) that reserve big man Dwight Powell has picked up his $4 million player option for 2025-26. His deadline to do so was Tuesday, a day before the start of the draft. Last year, the 6-foot-10 Stanford product played sparingly last season, and likely predicted that he wasn't going to be able to surpass that $4 million (a notch above what he'd fetch with a veteran's minimum contract) on the open market. In 55 contests, the 33-year-old averaged 2.1 points on .689/.400/.651 shooting splits and 2.1 rebounds. "Those three guys are not gonna win anything" - Shannon Sharpe urges the Lakers to trade Austin Reaves and improve their team

"Those three guys are not gonna win anything" - Shannon Sharpe urges the Lakers to trade Austin Reaves and improve their team originally appeared on Basketball Network. Time is ticking for the Los Angeles Lakers if they want to maximize their championship prowess with the tandem of Luka Doncic and LeBron James. With "The King" turning 41 next season, the window to chase a championship with him is narrow at best. Advertisement That is why Shannon Sharpe feels the Purple and Gold need to act strategically, and that includes considering a tough decision — trading their most valuable trade chip, Austin Reaves, to pursue a traditional center that can help elevate the game of both James and Doncic. Reaves is the only asset that the Lakers have After averaging 15.9 points and 5.5 assists during the 2023-24 campaign, AR proved himself to be one of the most reliable no. 3 options in the league. As a result, the franchise rewarded him with a four-year, $53 million contract before the start of this season. And "Hillbilly Kobe" didn't disappoint, averaging 20.2 points in the 2024-25 season, asserting himself as one of the most valuable pieces in their core. During the 2025 trade deadline, the Lakers seemed determined not to entertain any trade offers for Reaves. However, as the legendary NFL tight end said, now is the time to consider. With the 6'5" shooting guard now reaching his borderline All-Star level, more and more teams will be interested in offering him a lucrative contract worthy of his growth and talent. Advertisement On his podcast, Sharpe argued that from a team perspective, the Lakers need to offer their most valuable piece to acquire a battle-tested rim protector and pick-and-lob threat who can dominate the paint alongside the marquee duo. "The Lakers can only pay him so much. You're gonna go somewhere and get a big payday anyway. You ain't trying to stay with the Lakers when you get $200 million, and they can't give you that," Sharpe said. "Yeah, he has improved every single year; he's a hell of a player." "But those three guys are not gonna win anything. Now, I'm not saying you gotta package him, but they need a (traditional) big. He's the only valuable piece that they have," he added. Related: "He's Mr. Discipline, Mr. Straight, Mr. Conservative" - Dennis Rodman admits Gregg Popovich was "the big problem" in San Antonio The Lakers should never trade AR As tempting as it is to see Reaves' name used as trade bait, the truth is that the Lakers should not let go of him so easily. The 26-year-old is not an ordinary rising star but a homegrown fan favorite. Suppose the organization has put its faith in him. In that case, he has rewarded that trust by improving each season, regardless of the coaching changes or shifting roles. Advertisement Whether Bron or Luka was out of the lineup, AR stepped up and delivered, proving that he's more than capable of handling pressure on the big stage. And that is exactly the type of selfless, gritty player who can help build long-term success. He might not have individual accolades to his name. Still, with how Reaves has performed in the 2024-25 season, he was better as a third option than the second option of some teams and, in a handful of cases, more impactful than the production of the team's best player. Thus, the Lakers should definitely have plans for the future now that the Doncic era has begun. Still, trading proven youngsters like Reaves would only be a lose-lose move, as they would be giving up on a selfless, team-oriented player only to add another experiment to their roster.
