‘Angry Birds Movie 3' Set for 2027 Release by Paramount

Yahoo08-04-2025

Paramount Pictures has added a third 'Angry Birds Movie' to its release slate, setting it for January 29, 2027.
Paramount takes over as distributor from Sony Pictures, which released the first 'Angry Birds Movie' from Rovio Animation in 2016, grossing $352 million worldwide. The film yielded a 2019 sequel that didn't fly nearly as high with $152.2 million, though insiders at Paramount say that the films have seen robust viewership on streaming over the past five years.
Rovio returns as producers on the film with Sega, which acquired Rovio and 'Angry Birds' in 2023 and which has partnered with Paramount on the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' films. Namit Malhotra will also produce through his company Prime Focus Studios, in partnership with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, andDentsu. DNEG, the animation studio behind 'The Garfield Movie,' 'Nimona' and the upcoming 'The Cat in the Hat,' will animate the film.
Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride are set to reprise their roles as the birds Red, Chuck, Silver and Bomb. Joining them is an ensemble voice cast that includes Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, Sam Richardson, and Nikki Glaser.
John Rice, director of the first 'Angry Birds Movie,' will return and direct from a screenplay by 'Angry Birds Movie 2' director Thurop Van Orman.
The return of 'Angry Birds' to the big screen comes as video game films continue their rise at the box office. As Universal and Illumination plan a sequel to their $1.36 billion hit 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' Paramount has enjoyed continue success with the 'Sonic' films, whose third installment grossed $491 million worldwide. 'Sonic 4' is also on Paramount's 2027 slate with a release in the spring.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. stunned Hollywood with a $313 million global opening weekend for 'A Minecraft Movie,' ranking among the top 5 highest opening weekends ever for the studio.

Tom Hardy's 'MobLand' just wrapped up with a stunning finale — and I can't wait for a season 2

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. After the premiere of "MobLand," I felt the Paramount Plus show had a major problem, but showed a lot of promise. Fast forward to today's (June 1) season finale, and I can confirm the show wound up delivering on that promise — and then some. No, the show's not perfect by any means. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are incredible actors ... just not in this show. They're such caricatures of Irish gangsters that I'm still surprised they agreed to perform their roles the way they did. Then again, there is something very "Guy Ritchie" about their performance, and given the English director's involvement in the show's talented creative team, maybe Brosnan's and Mirren's performance was directed by him in particular. Even though this show isn't technically a Guy Ritchie series — he's an executive producer and director, but "The Day of the Jackal" creator Ronan Bennett is the creative lead behind "MobLand" — it has Ritchie's fingerprints all over it, including the finale. You don't even have to go back far to find a Guy Ritchie movie that feels related to "MobLand." I couldn't stop thinking about "The Gentlemen" while watching this show, especially how much Tom Hardy's Harry Da Souza reminds me of Charlie Hunnam's Raymond Smith. Also, there's plenty of violence. Spoilers for 'MobLand' beyond this point All season long, "MobLand" has been building toward an all-out gang war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons. To call it a simmering conflict would be an understatement. There's been dismemberment, car bombings and much more violence besides. But things go up a notch in the finale. The entire Stevenson crime family gets wiped out in a brilliant move by Harry that involves luring all of Richie Stevenson's (Geoff Bell) soldiers away from the rival gang leader, eliminating them in a hail of gunfire, grenades and bombs. Then, of course, Harry and Kevin (Paddy Considine) kill Richie and the Harrigan family lawyer, O'Hara (Lisa Dawn), who turned out to be a rat. It may be cliche, but this was my favorite part of the episode. First, seeing Harry's move play out in a way that lets you know what's coming just enough for you to get excited for the payoff. Second, Kevin delivering the line 'The Harrigans say hello' right before killing Richie is excellent. Yes, the killer delivering a final line right before the kill has been done before, but it still works. This show may have started slow, but now that the season is over, I can freely admit I've fallen for "MobLand." It's the perfect role for Hardy, who is great on screen with Conisidine. It's just the right blend of clever dialogue, brooding, double crossing and violence, even if the show definitely has some flawed performances and occasionally devolves into cliche. So, Paramount, give us "MobLand" season 2. I'm shocked that the show hasn't been renewed already, even after the finale's release on Paramount Plus. The show is clearly setting up a season 2 with Harry versus the notorious Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer) or a lieutenant of hers we have yet to meet. If we get that showdown, it could genuinely produce a great season of television. Watching Hardy and McTeer on screen this episode gave me real Timothy Olyphant and Margot Martindale in "Justified" season 2 vibes, and that might be one of the greatest seasons of television ever made. Paramount owes it to us and the show to give it the chance to build on a season that's gotten better and better with every episode. Stream "MobLand" on Paramount Plus 'Your Friends and Neighbors' season finale proves there are no consequences as long as you're rich and look like Jon Hamm 'Hacks' shocking season 4 finale has me hopeful season 5 could be the show's best yet — here's why 'The Last of Us' season 2 finale live — reactions, who survived, recap and more

Paramount Declares Comedies Are Back With New ‘Naked Gun' Footage; Trots Out Extended ‘Running Man' Look

With his usual flair, Paramount President of International Theatrical Distribution, Mark Viane, kicked off the studio's CineEurope presentation today with a hysterical video that reimagined him as the head of 'The Paramount Squad,' a reference to the upcoming Naked Gun reboot. Sporting a white wig, Viane was joined by other Par execs including the EMEA team while the mini film also nodded to upcoming studio titles including Smurfs and the latest Spongebob movie, among others. After the video and as he took the stage here, replete in boxers and skirt à la Liam Neeson's Frank Drebin Jr in The Naked Gun, Viane exclaimed, 'Comedies are back!' Neeson introduced an exclusive look at the movie via a video message and cheekily said to exhibitors, 'remember to book my movie — or I am coming for you.' During the presentation, Viane also announced that Paramount will co-produce with Universal Meet the Parents 4, and will handle international distribution. There was also extended Smurfs footage, including the opening sequence, that was introduced by Rihanna who voices Smurfette. The movie kicks off July 16 internationally and goes domestic on July 18. Moving away from comedy and targeting the underserved female audience, a first look at Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You was introduced via video by the cast including Allison Williams, Dave Franco, Mckenna Grace and Mason Thames. The story is set against a tragic event that unlocks a series of secrets, lies and regrets. A fall 2025 release is on deck. Also showing up for the first time for exhibitors was Primate, a horror movie about a domesticated chimp gone bonkers. That's swinging into cinemas in 2026. Viane closed out the Par presentation with new extended footage from The Running Man. Glenn Powell, Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo star in the Stephen King chase thriller adaptation from director Edgar Wright. Set in a dystopian America (in the year 2025), the story centers on Ben Richards (Powell), a desperate man who participates in violent reality show in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. Powell, Brolin and Domingo sent a video to Barcelona to talk up the film and introduce the footage. Release is on November 7 this year.
