Temple Vandalism Sparks Tension In Bengal's Maheshtala, BJP Slams Mamata Over 'Appeasement'

Fresh communal tension broke out in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, on Tuesday after a reported incident of temple vandalism led to clashes between two communities. The violence took place near the Rabindranagar Police Station in the Budge Budge area.
According to sources, the clash began after a person was stopped from setting up a shop near a local Hindu temple. This reportedly led to a group allegedly vandalising the temple, triggering outrage among local residents. In the violence that followed, stones were pelted, and one police officer is said to have sustained injuries.
To control the situation, police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells. A Rapid Action Force (RAF) team was also deployed to restore peace in the area.
Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar reacted strongly to the incident, blaming the state government for 'Muslim appeasement".
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Majumdar accused the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government of ignoring repeated attacks on Bengali Hindus in Muslim-majority areas of the state.

He alleged that a Shiva temple was vandalised right in front of a police station and that local Hindus, including a police officer, were attacked.
'The most outrageous part? Despite knowing exactly who was responsible—a certain 'peace-loving" community—the police didn't take action against them," Majumdar wrote. 'Instead, they charged at the Hindus."
The senior BJP leader further accused the state of following a pattern of inaction, referring to similar incidents in Malda and Murshidabad. 'The same pattern was seen in Malda and Murshidabad. Even there, the police stood in silence while horrific violence was unleashed on Hindus. What happened today in Rabindranagar is simply another side of the same coin."
'All of this happened in front of the police, yet they did nothing. They were assaulted, but didn't dare to strike back. The reason is plain—@MamataOfficial's shameless policy of Muslim appeasement, the consequences of which are now deeply embedded even in the state's OBC list," Majumdar stated.

CM: businesses will no longer need police licence to run operations
Hotels, swimming pools, guest houses, video game parlours, auditoriums, and amusement parks in Delhi will no longer require licences from the police to be operational, said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday. However, municipal corporations and the departments concerned should now grant permission for their functioning. On June 19, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena had approved an order withdrawing the requirement of the Delhi police to issue licences for seven business sectors under the Delhi Police Act, 1978. Businesses will now be exempted from having to obtain a no-objection certificate from the police. The exemption encompasses entities such as hotels, motels, guest houses, restaurants (eating houses), swimming pools, auditoriums, video game parlours, discotheques, and amusement parks. The licensing power will now be transferred to local bodies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, or Delhi Cantonment Board. The move comes after hotel and guest house operators sought the repealing of licences during a meeting with Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry Brijesh Goyal and Industries Minister Manjinder Sirsa. Ms. Gupta said the reform is a direct reflection of the government's 'visionary approach' and in line with the BJP-led Centre's 'minimum government, maximum governance' and Ease of Doing Business policies. 'This decision is not only a big step towards administrative reform but also the result of the policy and thinking of the Central government,' said the CM. 'The Centre is adopting ease of doing business for the benefit of the country, which is being implemented in Delhi,' she added. Ms. Gupta said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has categorically said the police force should be relieved from non-core duties so that their energy and resources can be focused on law and order, security, and crime control. The subject of policing in the national capital lies under the Home Ministry. 'We want to make Delhi not only the political capital of India but also a model of good governance. That is the mission of our double-engine government,' the CM said.

Nadia family holds ‘shraddh' as woman marries outside religion
Krishnaganj (Nadia): A Nadia family on Saturday conducted their daughter's "last rites", declaring her "dead" after she married a Muslim man. They held a symbolic Hindu "shraddh" and invited neighbours and relatives for a meal to mark the occasion. The family, from Khatura Uttarpara area of Krishnaganj, had chosen a groom for their daughter and discussions had begun about the wedding. The woman, who is in her first year at Krishnaganj Sudhir Ranjan Lahiri College, married the person of her choice without her family's permission. She had left home with him once earlier, but the family had brought her back. The woman's father, who works in Israel, was very upset when he heard about her decision. With his approval, the family burned all her belongings, including her clothes, books and documents. Twelve days after her wedding, they held the shraddh, which included rituals, head-shaving by male relatives, and serving guests food. Her uncle said: "She left us with no choice. She dishonoured the family. So, abiding by our tradition, we consider her dead." He said the family could not forgive that despite them having brought her back once, she ran away again. The woman's mother agreed, saying: "She has humiliated us. This is our way of registering our protest." The local community was left shocked by the act. No police report was filed, and the woman is said to be living safely with her husband and in-laws.
