Fake drug case: police to question key accused

The Hindu6 days ago

The police will question both Livia Jose and Narayana Das, the two key accused in the fake narcotics case that led to the wrongful arrest and imprisonment of Chalakudy-based beautician Sheela Sunny in 2023. The police have begun the process of securing their custody for further interrogation, as discrepancies have emerged in their individual statements.
The case, which dates back to February 27, 2023, began when Excise officials allegedly found LSD stamps in Ms. Sheela Sunny's scooter. She was arrested and spent 72 days in jail. However, a forensic lab report later revealed there were no traces of drugs on the seized stamps, and Ms. Sheela was acquitted of all charges.
Subsequent investigations revealed the entire case was a deliberate attempt to frame her. The police found that the conspiracy was hatched by Narayana Das, 58, from Tripunithura and Livia Jose, a resident of Kalady, who is also the sister of Ms. Sheela's daughter-in-law.
Narayana Das was arrested in April from Bengaluru, and Livia was taken into custody from Mumbai three days ago.
According to the police, Livia has confessed to orchestrating the false case out of personal grudge, stemming from allegations that Ms. Sheela had maligned her reputation. According to Livia, Ms. Sheela had questioned how Livia, a student in Bengaluru, managed to accumulate expensive goods and even made derogatory remarks about her lifestyle.
Livia told the police she acted alone, with help from Narayana Das, and denied any involvement of her sister. She claimed she planted the fake drug stamps in Ms. Sheela's scooter out of revenge, but admitted she was duped by an African national who supplied her with fake LSD stamps, thinking they were real.
Sheela Sunny, meanwhile, has dismissed Livia's statements as false. She clarified that her only remark was a query to her daughter-in-law about Livia's source of income as a student and that this was never shared with anyone else. She stated that she had no serious conflict with Livia and denied sending any voice messages to her son blaming Livia.
'This was a planned move by Livia in collusion with my daughter-in-law to isolate me from the family,' Sheela said. She added that Livia's relatives themselves had expressed concern over her behaviour and had planned to visit Bengaluru to look into her lifestyle.
Ms. Sheela also claimed she has not been in contact with her son since the case began and questioned the credibility of Livia's statements, especially the claim that she made defamatory remarks that led to the conspiracy.

ED raids Himachal assistant drug controller, linked persons in PMLA probe

The enforcement directorate (ED) on Sunday conducted searches against a Himachal Pradesh-based assistant drug controller (ADC), his family members and some others as part of a money laundering investigation linked to charges of bribery and 'political patronage', official sources said. The officer or his legal representatives could not be contacted immediately for a comment on the charges made by the ED.f (File) The action has been taken against Nishant Sareen, currently posted as ADC Dharamshala, his father-in-law Ramesh Kumar Gupta and an alleged associate Komal Khanna apart from some others, they said. Five residential and commercial premises in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab were searched. The probe relates to 'misuse' of official position by the officer when he was earlier posted as ADC in Baddi (Solan district) as well as during his current tenure, ED sources said. The central agency, according to the sources, is also investigating the alleged generation of proceeds of crime in this case apart from charges of 'political patronage and complaints of extortion and bribe' against Sareen. The officer or his legal representatives could not be contacted immediately for a comment on the charges made by the ED. The office of the drug controller is part of the directorate of health safety and regulation of the HP government. The money laundering case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) stems from an August, 2019 FIR registered by the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (SV&ACB) of Himachal Pradesh Police against Sareen while he was posted as ADC in Baddi. The SV&ACB arrested him in September, 2019, and later chargesheeted him along with Khanna. Sareen was released on bail in October that year and was posted as ADC, Dharamshala, in 2024, the sources said. Sareen, during the Himachal Police investigation, faced charges of receiving bribe from pharmaceutical companies based in Baddi, a pharma hub in the state.

'She-Hulk' Amy Muscle, husband found dead: The ROID rage theory in the double tragedy

Image credits: Instagram/amymuscle_ifbbpro Z unilda Hoyos Mendez, popularly known as Amy Muscle was a Colombian bodybuilding athlete who was recently found dead at her luxury residence in Spain's Costa del Sol on Thursday. The 43-year-old champion was found beaten to death with a hammer alongside her 46-year-old husband who had self-inflicted wounds. Her husband Jarrod Gelling's body was found in a bathroom. Zunilda had been missing since Saturday, after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai where she had been living for much of the time with her husband, a Colombian-American. While less is known about Gelling, he was reportedly recovering from a knee injury and had accompanied Zunilda on her trip. While an autopsy of Mendez is underway, the police believe that she died from repeated blows to the head. According to the family of the bodybuilder dubbed as 'She Hulk', Amy had been enduring abuse from her husband for the past year and was planning to divorce him. Her niece Yuleydis told a Malaga-based newspaper Sur, that her aunt was going to help Gelling following a knee operation before travelling to Portugal to compete and going back to Colombia alone after the divorce. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025: Steel Suppliers From Mexico At Lowest Prices (Take A Look) Steel Suppliers | search ads Search Now Undo "For my aunt, it was the last trip, a goodbye. She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behaviour. They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued," revealed the niece. According to a statement given by a National Police spokesman in Malaga, Amy's body showed "obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm." The suspected killer is believed to have Colombian and US nationality. Was Amy Muscle's murder a case of ROID rage ? Image credits: X/@Altosnoticiasp1 While the investigations continue, according to the statements of Amy's family and her niece, it seems the couple who had been married for four years were having some marital troubles. Amy and her husband both were bodybuilders, but she was an acclaimed bodybuilding champion who had several titles under her belt. Additionally, she was also an online fitness influencer with over 100,000 subscribers on various platforms. The Spanish police suspect Gelling who had the same nationality as the suspect to be the one who killed the fitness champion before taking his own life. The entire incident could be defined as a cause of ROID rage. ROID rage is a term that is used to describe anger and aggressive behaviour associated with anabolic steroid use. Steroid use is common in bodybuilders and weightlifters who need to bulk up their mass and while it may effectively help them it also puts them at the risk of negative psychiatric symptoms. The term "roid" in roid rage is an abbreviation of the word steroid and is used to symbolise the rage caused by steroid consumption. The steroids in this case are anabolic-androgenic steroids that help enhance athletic performance and improve lean muscles. A study published in the National Library of Medicine stated that the use of AAS leads to various symptoms such as irritability and unprovoked aggression sometimes referred to as "roid rage" Another study revealed that males who had used AAS at least once in their lives reported greater involvement in violent behaviour. The results of the study also revealed that steroid usage is linked with heightened levels of violent behaviours. Considering the way Amy was murdered with a hammer, her body having signs of abuse, her family reporting her husband's abuse, and the police suspecting her husband to be the killer, the entire incident could be studied with the angle of ROID rage. However, there's no official confirmation on this.

Meghalaya Police arrests two persons in MP in connection with Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

The SIT on Saturday night arrested a property dealer for concealing a box belonging to Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam, who hid it in a flat in Indore after the murder last month. With the fresh apprehensions, the total number of people arrested in the case rose to seven. Shillong/Indore, Jun 22 (PTI) A special investigation team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police arrested two persons in Madhya Pradesh in connection with the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, a senior officer said. 'Meghalaya Police SIT arrested one Silome James from Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh while he was trying to flee to Bhopal around 7.30 pm on Saturday. He is a property dealer and lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore where Sonam had stayed and kept the jewellery and other items she took with her after the incident,' East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem told PTI. Later, the SIT nabbed a security guard, identified as Balla Ahirwar, from his native village in Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh around 2 am on Sunday. He was posted at the property. The two will be produced before a court in Indore, seeking a transit remand for being taken to Shillong for further investigation, he added. The box is believed to have contained key evidence linked to the murder, according to sources. The arrested property dealer led the SIT to the place where he had disposed of all the items of the box by burning, the officer said. A member of the SIT said that Sonam's boyfriend Raj Kushwaha owned a firearm and this was kept at the property along with jewellery and a laptop. At the site where James had burnt the box, there were no signs of the pistol, laptop or any of the jewellery belonging to Raja, he said, adding that a forensic team had also visited the spot and collected all available evidence. The flat was rented out to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan by James, who runs a property management firm in Indore, they said. On June 13, James told reporters that Chauhan approached him on May 30 and rented the flat for Rs 17,000 per month, signing a formal agreement. However, when the Meghalaya Police later searched the flat, it was found vacant, as per the sources. Sonam stayed in the flat for several days on return from Meghalaya, before eventually surrendering to police in UP on June 8, the sources said. Indore-based transport businessman Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11 in Indore and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 and his mutilated body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. Raja was hacked to death by three men using two machetes near a secluded parking lot close to the famous Weisawdong falls in Sohra on May 23, the day the couple was reported missing. Sonam, accused of conspiring with her alleged lover to kill her husband, surrendered on June 8 before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, while four other accused have been arrested from different locations in MP and UP. The Meghalaya Police had earlier arrested five persons in connection with the murder — Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and the latter's three friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi. The five are currently in judicial custody and lodged at a jail in Meghalaya. The case is being probed in detail by the SIT of Meghalaya Police.
