Woman shot dead in alleged attempted hijacking
EVATON. – A murder case is being investigated by the Evaton police following a shooting on April 12.
A woman was left dead after an alleged attempted hijacking on Avondale Road.
According to police spokesperson Constable Thulisile Msibi, the incident occurred at approximately 01:20 when the victim was traveling with her husband and a friend, returning from Green Valley. As they approached their home, shots were fired.
'The husband, who was driving, told police that he immediately got out of the car and ran for safety. His wife and their friend also fled from the vehicle. From a distance, he noticed individuals attempting to steal his car, but they were unable to take it as he still had the key, which caused the car to lock its gears,' Msibi explained.
Msibi adds that the suspects fled the scene, and the husband used the car to chase after them but lost sight of where they went.
'Upon returning, he began searching for his wife. A few metres from their entrance, he found her lying in the grass, unresponsive, with gunshot wounds to her chin and neck. Emergency services were called, but she was declared dead on the scene. Her cellphone was also missing, believed to have been taken by the suspects during the attack,' said Msibi.
The suspects are currently unknown and still at large.
'We are investigating a case of murder and urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the suspects' whereabouts to come forward,' she said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Evaton police on 016 590 9300, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or anonymously via the MySAPS app.

Father gets life imprisonment for son's murder
The Ezakheni Regional Court sentenced Ayanda Snothi Zwane (35) to life imprisonment for the murder of his son (6) in June last year. The court heard how, on the day of the murder, Zwane quarrelled with the child's mother while the child was asleep. Once he had chased the woman out of the yard, Zwane took the sleeping child and smashed his head on a rock. The child died after suffering a skull fracture with severe brain injury. Zwane was arrested shortly thereafter. In court, Prosecutor Amelia Lieketseng Mphomane led the testimony of the child's mother who was an eyewitness, the photographer who attended the scene, and the medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem. In aggravation of the sentence. Mphomane asked the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment because Zwane's actions had traumatised every member of the family. The family is grappling to understand why he would commit such a heinous crime. In addition to the life sentence, Zwane was declared unfit to possess a firearm. Don't have the ZO app?
