Michigan State baseball goes 0-2 in Big Ten Tournament, ends 2025 season
Michigan State baseball's 2025 season has come to a close, with the Spartans unable to make a fairy tale story come true in Omaha at the Big Ten Tournament.
On Tuesday night, the Spartans suffered heartbreak, losing an extra innings affair to Nebraska after an error in the ninth inning allowed the Cornhuskers to come back in the game. The game ended 5-4 in favor of Nebraska after 10 innings.
The Spartans came back to avenge that loss on Thursday, taking on No. 1 seeded Oregon. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they fell once again, dropping a close contest to the Ducks, 4-2.
Michigan State would go 0-2 during their week in the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha.
The two losses officially mark the end of the 2025 season for Michigan State, that saw the Spartans go 28-27, a game above the .500 threshold. It is only the second time in the last seven years that the Spartans have finished above that .500 mark.
Certainly, the future of Jake Boss Jr. as the head coach of this program will be talked about in the weeks that are soon to follow.

While the national rankings don't look great, it's important to note that it's still early in the process. At this time last year, Iowa's 2025 class had only eight commits. The Hawkeyes finished with 16 signees and the country's 42nd-ranked class according to the averaging ranking from those three sites. Iowa's eight commits are tied for the fourth-fewest in the Big Ten. Only Michigan, Oregon, Maryland and Nebraska have fewer commits at this time. As the Hawks add more commits, their national and conference rankings will continue to rise. Iowa is hosting a number of key visitors this weekend, including uncommitted targets CJ Hester, Julian Manson, Kasen Thomas, Darion Jones and Mason Lewis. There's also the transfer portal, which Iowa will be able to hit after the 2025 season. The Hawkeyes are bringing in nine transfers this season and will continue to look to the portal going forward. With upcoming visit days, the 2025 season and the transfer portal to follow, Iowa's 2026 recruiting class should start to climb the rankings soon. Texas A&M is currently hosting 10 2026 prospects, including multiple five-stars
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is coming off two consecutive weekends hosting 33 elite prospects from the 2026 recruiting class. Since last Saturday, the Aggies landed four commitments in the cycle: Three-star QB/ATH Kaeden Johnson, four-star OT Samuel Roseborough, four-star RB KJ Edwards, and five-star ATH/CB Brandon Arrington. Arrington's commitment on Thursday afternoon marked a significant milestone for Elko and defensive back coach Jordan Peterson, who was the primary recruiter for what many consider to be the top athlete in the class, and by far the best prospect from California. Arrington is the first five-star commit for the Aggies and is currently taking an official visit to College Station this weekend. Arrington joined nine other 2026 prospects, including fellow five-stars, and four Texas A&M commits. This is a big weekend for Elko and his staff, as two key visitors are set to announce their decisions next week: five-star edge Tristian Givens and four-star offensive lineman Drew Evers. Notre Dame pledge Mason Barth wins state baseball title
Notre Dame baseball commit Mason Barth is once again a state champion. The Andrean (Merrillville, IN) right-handed pitcher/shortstop struck out Jasper's A.J. Huelsman with the bases loaded for the final out Friday night to help his team capture the IHSAA Class 3A State Championship in Indianapolis. No. 1 Andrean scored two runs in the 6th inning and two more in the 7th before holding off Jasper in a 4-3 win at Victory Field in Indy. It is the ninth state title in program history for the 59ers. The powerhouse is 9-2 all-time in state championship games, with all nine titles coming within the last 20 years. The nine championships put the program in a tie with Lafayette Central Catholic for most all time. Andrean finished with a 31-3 record. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Barth committed to Notre Dame in October 2022. Andrean head coach Dave Pishkur stated a few years back that Barth was the second-best freshman he's ever coached.
