Announcement on defence equipment factory in Salem soon, says union minister H D Kumaraswamy

Salem: Union steel and heavy industries minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday said an announcement regarding the establishment of a defence equipment manufacturing factory on the premises of Salem Steel Plant would be made soon. "The proposal is currently in the early stages of discussion. A formal announcement in this regard will be made in the next four to five months," he said after attending the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Salem Steel Plant, where he did various yoga asanas along with the plant officials, members of trade unions and employees. Addressing the media, he commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting yoga across the globe and inspiring people. He said efforts were on to revitalize the Salem Steel Plant on the technical and marketing fronts. "In the 2003-2004 financial year, the plant was profitable. However, the profitability has since declined. The primary goal is to redevelop the plant and restore its profitability by developing various new products." Referring to the one nation, one election policy, Kumaraswamy said the BJP was not fostering division, but promoting unity within the country. "The BJP's goal is to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu, and the party is actively working to achieve this goal. Hence, some regional parties are criticizing the BJP." On Friday, the Union minister had planted a sapling on the Salem Steel Plant premises and toured the entire facility. He had also met the representatives of labour unions and promised to address their concerns.

BJD criticises govt over ‘unfulfilled' promises; BJP hits back

Bhubaneswar: BJD on Saturday labelled the 'double-engine' BJP govt's performance as 'double betrayal', a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a pubic gathering in the city and launched Odisha Vision Document 2036 and 2047. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Former minister Sanjay Kumar Das Burma criticised the BJP's unfulfilled promise regarding the Puri Ratna Bhandar's missing key and claimed the temple's visitor management system was in disarray. He said the state faced significant financial setbacks, with central grants declining by 18.19% in the 2024-25 fiscal. Former minister Snehangini Chhuria raised concerns about deteriorating law and order situation. "Govt data reveals that an average of 15 women are raped daily in Odisha, with rape cases increasing by around 8%. The state now ranks eighth in crime rates nationally, with BJP-ruled states occupying eight of the top-10 positions," she added. Chhuria also criticised the Subhadra Yojana, which initially promised Rs 50,000 to every woman but now distributes only Rs 10,000 annually in two instalments. She dismissed the BJP's claim of creating 'Lakhpati Didis' with Rs 10,000 per year as unrealistic and highlighted the dismantling of tribal welfare programmes. Senior general secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra questioned the authenticity of the situation presented to the PM, noting that while Modi spoke of making Odisha a development hub, the state continues to battle cholera outbreaks. "Govt's celebration and health minister's viral video dancing while diarrhoea cases surge has added insult to injury for affected people," he alleged. He also criticised the vision document's modest 9% GDP target. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal said cholera was detected several times under the BJD govt. "In Dec 2023, cholera was detected in Sundargarh district's Rourkela, claiming six lives. Cholera was also detected in July 2022 in Rayagada district. It claimed eight lives. Diarrhoea cases were reported from different districts every year during the BJD govt. But our govt has taken the issue seriously and controlled it. The health minister visited the areas and the CM reviewed the situation," he added. He said the opposition is protesting for the sake of protest. "People are witnessing the development initiatives of the BJP govt," he added.

Suvendu Adhikari slams Bengal govt for skipping Yoga Day, says

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 21 (ANI): On the occasion of International Yoga Day, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticised the state government for not participating in the nationwide celebration. He alleged that while both NDA and non-NDA ruled states observed the day, West Bengal deliberately skipped it. Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, 'NDA and non-NDA state governments are celebrating Yoga Day today, except West Bengal, because West Bengal follows Bangladesh. It does not follow Delhi. More than 180 countries are celebrating International Yoga Day today. As Indians, we are proud of this.' The sharp remarks came as International Yoga Day was celebrated across the country, promoting the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. Earlier on Saturday, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, 'Yoga is our country's heritage. We have given yoga to the world. It is a very good medium to keep the body healthy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted it globally, and now yoga is being practised in about 200 countries, so the credit for this goes to Narendra Modi, who revived and promoted yoga in the world again.' Meanwhile, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose highlighted how the practice of Yoga was earlier 'confined to India,' and the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spread it internationally has led to people accepting it the world over. As part of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the effort to promote a healthy lifestyle while performing Yoga with others in Vishakapatnam. Meanwhile, multiple other Chief Ministers and Union Ministers are participating in Yoga events in their respective cities. 'Yoga is universal in nature. Yoga connects the mind and the body. This is something which belongs to the entire humanity. It was confined to India, but our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, took it to the whole world. Now it is for the world, and the world is accepting it,' Governor Bose told ANI. (ANI)
