Highlighting career opportunities in international financial organisations for Emirate students
The Ministry of Finance, in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in the UK and the Education and Technology Sciences Attaché Office, hosted an awareness session for Emirati students studying in the UK.
The event was held as part of the Ministry's 'UAE Global Cadres', an initiative that seeks to empower Emirati youth and broaden their exposure to professional and training opportunities within major international financial institutions.
Building Professional Relationships:
Ali Abdullah Sharafi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for International Financial Relations at the Ministry of Finance, stressed that the UAE Global Cadres programme plays a key role in opening up new horizons for young Emirati talents, adding that the programme is designed to raise awareness among Emirati youth about the work environment within international financial institutions and prepare them for internships, secondments, and employment opportunities with these entities.
Sharafi added that the initiative aims to help students build international networks and enable them to contribute to global decision-making platforms.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Khalid Saud Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in London, reaffirmed the country's commitment to supporting its students overseas. 'We firmly believe in the importance of preparing a generation of young Emiratis who are empowered, well-informed about international systems, and capable of representing the UAE on the global stage,' he said.
He noted that the session has provided a platform for promoting dialogue and forging long-term professional relationships that extend well beyond graduation.
For his part, Abdulrahman Al Dhaheri, Acting Education Attaché at the Office of Education and Technology Affairs at the UAE Embassy in the UK, stated: 'The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's participation in the UAE Global Cadres initiative reaffirms its commitment to empowering students on scholarship by equipping them with the skills and experiences necessary to excel in international work environments, particularly in the financial, economic, and political sectors.
'We truly believe it's important to prepare a generation of confident, capable Emiratis who can represent the UAE proudly in global organisations and play an active role in shaping decisions on the international stage,' Al Dhaheri said.
He added: 'What's really exciting about this session is how it brings different parts of the government together to support students in a practical way. It's an opportunity for strengthening dialogue, networking, and building relationships that can help students both during their studies and as they start their careers. It also aligns closely with the UAE's aspirations for leadership and global competitiveness.'
Presentations:
The gathering featured presentations by representatives from leading international financial institutions, including the World Bank Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Speakers outlined recruitment pathways and professional development opportunities at their respective organisations, detailing flagship programmes for emerging talent, application procedures, eligibility criteria, and high-demand areas of specialisation.
The event also included an interactive session, providing students the opportunity to engage directly with representatives. Many participants voiced interest in learning how to navigate multicultural work environments and advance their careers on a global scale.
This session is part of a series of awareness-raising activities organised by the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, across key global capitals that host major international financial institutions. These sessions seek to familiarise Emirati students with the training and career opportunities available within these global entities.
Earlier last month (April), the Ministry of Finance officially launched the ' UAE Global Cadres', an initiative designed to introduce Emirati students and professionals to opportunities available in international financial organisations.
The initiative aims to empower young people by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to launch successful international careers, in line with the aspirations of the UAE's wise leadership and its vision.
Through this programme, the Ministry seeks to strengthen the UAE's presence within international financial institutions and increase the contribution of national talent to advancing global sustainable development goals. The initiative also seeks to build a strategic network of relationships that will enhance the competitiveness and capabilities of Emirati professionals in key sectors.

Egypt's Finance Ministry Honours Talaat Moustafa Group for Tax System Support

Egypt's Ministry of Finance has honoured Talaat Moustafa Group, the National Bank of Egypt, and Banque Misr for their role in supporting the government's efforts to modernise the country's tax system. The recognition was presented at the 'Shukran' (Thank You) conference, an event organised by the ministry in collaboration with the Egyptian Tax Authority. The honours were linked to a recent package of tax incentives introduced by the ministry and were awarded for contributions to promoting transparency, partnership, and trust between the state and taxpayers. The conference was attended by senior state officials and executive leaders from the public and private sectors. Dr Tarek El-Naggar, Executive Vice President of the Financial Sector at Talaat Moustafa Group, accepted the certificate of appreciation on behalf of the group's CEO, Hisham Talaat Moustafa. In a speech at the ceremony, El-Naggar said the honour would serve as motivation to continue the group's support for the state's economic reform efforts. 'We are delighted to receive this honour, which reflects our deep commitment to our national responsibility concerning taxes—a duty we fulfill with the utmost dedication,' he stated. El-Naggar affirmed that the stability and clarity of tax policies are among the most prominent factors in attracting investment, stressing that both local and foreign investors consider the tax system a fundamental criterion when making investment decisions. He also commented on the relationship between the government and the private sector, stating it has undergone a significant positive transformation in recent years. He added that there is now a clear appreciation from the state for the developmental role played by investors, which fosters a climate of trust and encourages support for the national economy. To support this point, El-Naggar highlighted Egypt's improved ranking in a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which placed the country first in Africa and ninth globally for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). According to El-Naggar, the modernisation of the tax system was a significant contributor to this result.

UAE Strengthens Global Publishing Ties at Beijing International Book Fair - Middle East Business News and Information

Represented by a distinguished selection of established and emerging publishing houses, the Emirates Publishers Association EPA is participating in the 2025 edition of the Beijing International Book Fair, shining a spotlight on the UAE's experience in developing its publishing industry—particularly in the fields of children's literature and innovative educational content. This participation in Asia's largest copyrights exchange platform—and the second largest book fair in the world—reflects the EPA's ongoing commitment to empowering Emirati publishers, expanding opportunities for international collaboration, and strengthening the UAE's presence on the global publishing stage. Showcasing Diversity and Vision: The EPA's stand at the fair serves as a vibrant window into the UAE's dynamic publishing landscape, showcasing a unique blend of seasoned expertise and emerging voices in children's literature and educational publishing. Among the participants are publishers who graduated from the 'Onshur' programme—an initiative launched to empower the next generation of publishing entrepreneurs in the UAE by empowering them with professional and technical support. Featured publishers include Hamda Al Baloushi, Manager of Aalamkom Publishing and Distribution, and Treasurer and Board Member of the EPA, Salim Abdulrahman, Managing Director of AlRewaya Publishing, and Ghassan Rabih, representative of Dar Rabie Publishing. Representing the 'Onshur' graduates are Dr. Asmaa Emara, Founder of Dal for Publishing, a publishing house dedicated to innovative approaches to Arabic language education, and Fatema Al Hammadi, Founder of Sohub Publishing and Distribution, which specialises in educational content for people of determination and students with autism. Bridging Culture Through Publishing: Running from 18 to 22 June, the Association's programme at the fair features a series of high-level events uniting content creators and publishing professionals from the UAE and China. A key event on the agenda is the 2025 Global Children's Book Forum, centred on the theme 'Integrated Innovation in Children's Books Amid New Realities.' Through this platform, the Association highlighted UAE's pioneering contributions to the global book industry, particularly in advancing children's publishing and fostering a culture of reading among young minds. The event agenda also features a panel discussion titled 'Nurturing Young Minds: Children's Publishing Priorities in the UAE and China,' with participation from publishers, Hamda Al Baloushi and Ghassan Rabih, alongside a group of distinguished Chinese children's publishers. Global Messages with a Local Spirit: Commenting on the Association's participation, His Excellency Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the EPA, emphasised that the EPA's presence at major international book fairs represents a strategic opportunity for copyrights exchange, expanding professional networks, and exploring new markets for Emirati and Arabic content. He stated: 'This year, we placed special focus on the UAE's experience in children's publishing—a field that conveys universal messages with a distinctly local spirit, led by young publishers who possess clear vision and genuine passion. By empowering them, we are laying the foundation for a new generation that embodies innovation and authenticity.' His Excellency further noted: 'Our participation in the Beijing International Book Fair is an extension of the UAE's broader vision to support creative industries—particularly publishing—as a vital tool for knowledge dissemination and cultural dialogue. Each international platform is an opportunity to project our cultural voice globally and to showcase the wealth of creative potential that the UAE holds. The presence of 'Onshur' graduates at an event of this calibre sends a clear message: the youth are a powerful force shaping the future of Emirati publishing.' Publisher Hamda Al Baloushi described her participation as a significant milestone in her professional journey, highlighting the opportunity it provided for engagement and exchange with publishers from around the world. She added that it had opened new avenues for collaboration and copyrights exchange, particularly in the Asian market. She said: 'Our presence here not only reflects the quality of Emirati content, but also the prominent status that the UAE publishing sector has achieved on the global stage. I am proud to be part of this movement and to represent the UAE at one of the world's most important cultural events.' Ongoing Efforts: Through its active presence at prestigious international cultural events such as this, the EPA continues to advance its long-term strategic goals—chief among them being the development of the UAE's publishing ecosystem. This is achieved by connecting Emirati publishers with global networks, encouraging content export, and reinforcing the UAE's position as a dynamic hub in the international publishing industry.

Egypt's tax reform drive boosts revenues by over third - Economy

Egypt's tax revenues have surged by 36 percent over the past year, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced on Saturday. This increase was driven by strong engagement from taxpayers following the government's recent tax facilitation initiatives. Speaking at a press conference, Kouchouk revealed that tax revenues increased by EGP 500 billion during the first 11 months of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, which ends on 30 June. He stressed that the rise came 'without imposing any new financial burdens' and attributed the growth to tax incentives and simplification measures. As part of the initiative, the Ministry of Finance reported the following figures: 110,000 requests were submitted to close old tax files 450,000 amended or newly filed tax returns were received under the facilitation framework 53,000 new taxpayers voluntarily registered in the electronic tax system 'These numbers reflect a strong start in rebuilding trust and fostering a genuine partnership with the business community,' Kouchouk said, crediting taxpayers and tax authority staff for the early success of the reforms. The minister emphasized that the additional revenues have been directed toward increasing government spending on healthcare, education, and social protection, which aligns with national development priorities. Looking ahead, Kouchouk confirmed that 'the first package of real estate tax facilitations will be implemented in the first quarter of the upcoming fiscal year,' and that the 'initial customs facilitation package is expected to receive final Cabinet approval soon.' These steps, he added, aim to 'further ease business operations and stimulate foreign trade and investment.' Kouchouk concluded by reaffirming the government's commitment to expanding the reform programme: 'Further tax relief packages are under development to address on-the-ground challenges and promote sustainable economic growth.'
