Fleet Space, partners to advance quantum sensors for AI-powered mineral exploration

Yahoo5 days ago

Fleet Space, an Australian space exploration company, has announced partnerships with mDetect, Nomad Atomics and DeteQt to advance next-generation mineral exploration technology.
The company is seeking to enhance the global mining industry's technological capabilities, particularly in quantum sensors, to support AI-driven mineral exploration through these partnerships.
Fleet Space will leverage mDetect's muon tomography, which offers high-resolution subsurface 3D density maps, aiding mineral exploration and drill targeting.
Nomad Atomics is developing quantum gravimeters and accelerometers for ultra-fine resolution gravity data, enhancing predictive AI outputs, which will advance data-driven exploration strategies and improve the predictive capabilities of Fleet Space's AI.
Additionally, DeteQt's 'diamond-on-chip' quantum magnetometers detect magnetic fields with high precision, supporting the creation of 3D subsurface conductivity models with minimal ground disturbance.
Incorporated into Fleet Space's low-impact, real-time magnetotelluric solution, these compact devices have the potential to facilitate the creation of 3D subsurface conductivity models while causing minimal ground disturbance and requiring little excavation.
These partnerships will bolster the processing and acquisition speed of geophysical datasets and pave the way for muon tomography to improve geological predictions made by modern AI systems.
Fleet Space chief scientist Gerrit Olivier said: 'By partnering with global leaders in quantum gravimetry and magnetometry, we are bringing laboratory-grade precision into a hand-held package. These sensors deliver extreme precision and stability in the field, letting crews collect higher-fidelity gravity and magnetic data with fewer stations, lighter logistics and far simpler CONOPS [concept of operations].
'When we fuse these quantum measurements with passive muon tomography, seismic imaging and conventional gravity data inside our joint-inversion framework, we obtain an unprecedented 3D picture of the subsurface, from regional reconnaissance right down to drill-ready targets.'
As part of its ExoSphere platform expansion, Fleet Space is working with start-ups and academic institutions including Stanford's Mineral-X and MIT's Space Exploration Initiative to increase efficiency and precision in the mineral value chain on Earth and beyond.
The demand for minerals, driven by the renewable energy transition and advanced technology manufacturing, has led to a reconfiguration of the global mining industry's exploration toolkit.
Companies are now incorporating satellites, real-time multi-physics ground sensors and AI to enable non-invasive, data-driven exploration.
Utilising the ExoSphere platform, industry giants such as Rio Tinto, Barrick, BHP and Gold Fields have accelerated exploration and gained valuable geological insights.
Saudi state-owned mining company Maaden is also deploying ExoSphere across 12,000km² of the Arabian Shield, integrating 3D subsurface imaging with AI-enabled drill targeting to develop Saudi Arabia's mineral assets, valued at $2.5trn (SR9.38trn).
Following the acquisition of HiSeis and a $100m (A$153.87m) Series D funding round, Fleet Space is also planning a lunar deployment of its ExoSphere technology, SPIDER, in late 2026 to further lunar subsurface research.
"Fleet Space, partners to advance quantum sensors for AI-powered mineral exploration" was originally created and published by Mining Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.

Dateline Resources Reports Strong Progress in Colosseum Gold-REE Exploration Program in California

SAN BERNARDINO, CA / ACCESS Newswire Dateline Resources Limited (ASX:DTR)(OTCQB:DTREF), an Australian-based exploration company, is pleased to provide an update on its ongoing exploration program at the 100%-owned Colosseum Gold and Rare Earth Elements (REE) Project, located in the prolific Walker Lane Trend of San Bernardino County, California. This comprehensive program highlights Dateline's commitment to advancing the exploration of this dual-commodity asset through detailed geophysical and geochemical surveys. The magneto telluric (MT) geophysical survey is progressing steadily, with data collected from 119 of the planned 167 stations, representing approximately 70% completion. Designed to capture deep subsurface resistivity data along multiple lines spanning the project claims, the MT survey aims to image geological structures and alteration zones that could indicate buried breccia pipes or REE-bearing mineralized features. Preliminary 1D and 2D resistivity inversions from the first three completed survey lines have been generated and are under review by Dateline's technical team, showing resistivity contrasts that may correlate with key lithological contacts or structural features at depth. A full 3D inversion of the MT dataset will be conducted once all field data is collected, with results expected within 2-4 weeks of survey completion, enhancing the company's ability to pinpoint high-priority drill targets. In parallel, the geochemical sampling program is advancing, with 599 of the planned 1,207 samples, roughly 50%, collected as of today. Targeting high-priority areas such as newly identified felsite dykes west of historic pits and untested gravity-low anomalies to the east, these samples are being sent to the laboratory in batches for multi-element analysis, including a full suite of rare earth elements, to identify geochemical anomalies and pathfinder elements. Initial assay results from the first batch are expected in early July 2025, with comprehensive interpretation to follow once all samples are analyzed. Given current progress, terrain, and temperature conditions, the sampling campaign is anticipated to conclude in approximately 17-20 days. These exploration efforts are central to Dateline's 'stacked evidence' methodology, which integrates MT, geochemical, gravity, and potentially ground magnetic data to refine drill targets. The results will guide upcoming drilling campaigns, including a maiden REE-focused program, positioning Colosseum as a strategically significant project for both gold and critical minerals. Located less than 10 kilometers north of the world-class Mountain Pass REE mine, the Colosseum Project is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing global demand for rare earth elements, supported by strong U.S. government initiatives to bolster domestic production. This positions the project to contribute to America's strategic mineral supply chain, enhancing national security by reducing reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals. Managing Director Stephen Baghdadi commented, 'We are very encouraged by the field progress and initial data coming from Colosseum. In just a short period, our team has covered roughly half of the geochemical survey grid, and the MT survey is advancing on schedule. Each batch of samples sent to the lab and each line of geophysical data brings us a step closer to uncovering the next phase of Colosseum's potential. We look forward to receiving the assay results in July along with the MT survey's 3D models. Combining these new datasets will allow us to pinpoint the most prospective zones for both gold and rare earths with a high degree of confidence. This systematic approach is laying the groundwork for our upcoming drilling campaigns, including the maiden REE-focused drill program, to unlock value from this unique gold-REE project.' Dollar advances as investors brace for Iran response to U.S. attacks

The U.S. dollar firmed on Monday as anxious investors sought safety, although the restrained moves suggest markets were waiting for Iran's response to U.S. attacks on its nuclear sites that have exacerbated conflict in the Middle East. The major moves were in the oil market, with crude prices hitting a five-month high, while global stocks slipped after the U.S. attacked Iran's nuclear sites and President Donald Trump raised the idea of regime change in the Islamic republic. In currency markets, the euro was 0.5% lower at $1.1469, while the Australian dollar, often seen as risk proxy, was last 1.1% weaker at $0.6382. That left the dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency against six other units, 0.6% higher at 99.29. Sterling was 0.5% lower at $1.338, while the New Zealand dollar sank 1.1% to $0.5895. Carol Kong, currency strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, said the markets are in wait-and-see mode on how Iran responds, with more worries about the positive inflationary impact of the conflict than the negative economic impact. "The currency markets will be at the mercy of comments and actions from the Iranian, Israeli and U.S. governments," Kong said. "The risks are clearly skewed to further upside in the safe haven currencies if the parties escalate the conflict." The dollar was up 1.1% against the yen at 147.73 after touching a one-month high earlier in the session. The U.S. currency cast a shadow on other Asian currencies, including the rupiah, ringgit and the Philippine peso. Bank of America strategists said the dollar-yen can reprice higher if oil prices remain elevated, noting Japan imports almost all of its petroleum, more than 90% of which comes from the Middle East, while the U.S. is largely energy-independent. "We think USD/JPY works as a hedge against an escalation in geopolitical tension in the Middle East with positive carry," they said in a note. Iran vowed to defend itself a day after the U.S. dropped 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs onto the mountain above Iran's Fordow nuclear site. American leaders urged Tehran to stand down while pockets of anti-war protests emerged in U.S. cities. In a step towards what is widely seen as Iran's most effective threat to hurt the West, its parliament approved a move to close the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly a quarter of global oil shipments pass through the narrow waters that Iran shares with Oman and the United Arab Emirates. "Markets appear to be treating the U.S. strikes on Iran as a contained event for now, rather than the start of a broader war," said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo. "The muted haven flows suggest investors are still assuming this is a one-off escalation, not a disruption to global oil supply or trade." While the dollar has reprised its role as a safe haven due to the rapid spike in geopolitical risks, the relatively muted moves suggest investors remain wary of going all in on the greenback. The U.S. currency has dropped 8.5% this year against its major rivals as economic uncertainty from President Donald Trump's tariffs and concern over their impact on U.S. growth led investors to scurry for alternatives.
