on Wednesday, seeking the formation of a "popular" government in the state. The delegation included MLAs from the Naga People's Front (NPF) and
National People's Party
(NPP).
Manipur has been under the President's rule since February 13. Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh is in New Delhi to meet the BJP leadership.
The MLAs while meeting the governor also submitted a list of 22 MLAs who are in support of formation of a government in the state. Independent MLA of Keishamthong assembly constituency S Nishikant Singh told media persons in Imphal, 'It has been three and a half months that President's rule is imposed in Manipur and a majority of people want a popular government to be installed.' He added, 'We discussed the functioning of the President's rule and the issue of
law and order
with the governor.'
Expressing optimism that a popular government will be formed soon, he said, 'We are appealing to the governor to form a popular government and a lot of MLAs have signed the letter. For the sake of Manipur, all the NDA MLAs Manipur are keen on having a popular government. To have a smooth formation of the government, we need the support of the public also. The letter which we gave to the governor today is the same letter we gave to Prime minister Narendra Modi earlier.'
Confirming the move, BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said that they are ready to form the next state government. "We informed the governor that 44 MLAs are ready. We also discussed possible solutions to the ongoing issues in the state," said Singh.

This comes a day after former chief minister
N Biren Singh
met the governor at Raj Bhavan.
With BJP failing to find a consensus candidate for the chief ministerial candidate, President's rule was imposed in Manipur, four days after chief minister N Biren Singh, who was heading a BJP-led government for the second term, resigned on February 9.
A senior BJP leader, who did not want to be named, said, 'There are too many candidates in the fray for the chief ministership. Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh and former minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh were vying for the CM post.' The BJP leader further said that two former ministers, including Th Biswajit and Govindas Konthoujam were also in the race.
Over 260 people were killed, more than 1,500 injured, and over 70,000 people displaced after the ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo people on May 3, 2023, after a 'Tribal Solidarity March', organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
Former chief minister's security downgraded
Manipur Police has scaled down the security assigned to the former chief minister N Biren Singh. A total of 17 police personnel in Singh's security have been detached from their duties. The order, signed by the
Director General of Police
, instructed these personnel to report back to their parent units immediately.
Now only six security personnel will remain with the former CM. This team will comprise three assistant sub-inspectors, one head constable, and two constables. However, he will continue to remain covered under the 'Z' category and will continue to have four to six CAPF personnel with him.

Karnataka CM inaugurates development works worth 936 crore in Raichur
Raichur (Karnataka) [India], June 23 (ANI): Development works worth Rs 936 crore were inaugurated in Raichur, Karnataka, on Monday, reaffirming the Congress Government's commitment to delivering on its promises, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, as per an official statement from the Karnataka Chief Minister's Office (CMO). He was speaking after inaugurating the Tribal Cultural Festival organised by the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department and the District Administration, unveiling the nameplate of Adikavi Maharshi Valmiki University, and participating in the 371st Dashamanotsav celebrations. 'Our government is committed to development. We had promised 560 guarantees during this election. Already, 235 of these have been fulfilled, and the remaining will be completed in the next three years,' the Chief Minister said. He criticised the previous BJP government, accusing it of neglecting development and now resorting to false propaganda out of frustration over Congress' achievements. 'From 2013 to 2018, our previous government fulfilled all the promises made and even 30 more that were not part of the manifesto,' he recalled. Highlighting the 'steep price rise' under the Modi-led government, the CM pointed out how the prices of gold, silver, rice, pulses, cooking oil, LPG, petrol, diesel, and fertilisers have risen sharply, burdening ordinary citizens. 'Despite being in power at the Centre, the BJP is lying shamelessly to the people,' he charged. Emphasising the historical importance of Article 371J for Kalyana Karnataka's progress, CM Siddaramaiah reminded that it was the result of the relentless efforts of Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Dharam Singh, supported by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government. 'The BJP opposed this historic step. When Vajpayee was Prime Minister, Advani said that 371J was not possible,' he said. Since coming to power, the Congress government has allocated Rs 13,500 crore for Kalyana Karnataka's development, with a commitment to allocate more funds going forward. 'Due to 371J, our youth are now becoming engineers, doctors, IAS, IPS, ACs, and DCs. This is our achievement,' he said. TMC's Alifa Ahmed secures victory in Kaliganj assembly by-elections in West Bengal
Nadia (West Bengal) [India], June 23 (ANI): Trinamool Congress' candidate Alifa Ahmed has secured victory in the Kaliganj assembly by-election by a margin of 50,049 votes. Alifa defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Ashish Ghosh and Congress' Kabil Uddin Shaikh and emerged victorious on the seat. According to the Election Commission of India, Alifa received 1,02,759 votes while BJP's Ghosh received 52,710 votes. Congress' Shaikh managed to get 28,348 votes while 2,502 votes went to NOTA (None of the above). The by-poll in the constituency was necessitated after the death of TMC leader Nasiruddin Ahmed. Earlier today, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep gratitude to the voters, thanking them for their overwhelming support after party took lead on the Kaliganj seat. In a social media post on X, Chief Minister Banerjee wrote, 'In the by-election of the Kaliganj Assembly constituency, people from all religions, castes, communities, and all walks of life have overwhelmingly blessed us by exercising their voting rights. I humbly express my gratitude to them.' She credited the victory to the guiding values of Maa-Mati-Manush (Mother, Soil, People), emphasizing, 'The main architect of this victory is Maa-Mati-Manush. My colleagues in Kaliganj have worked tirelessly for this, and I extend my sincere congratulations to them as well.' In a significant blow to the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government in Kerala, UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath of Congress defeated LDF's M Swaraj of CPI(M) by a large margin of 11,077 votes in the Nilambur assembly by-election.
