Dr. Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai was charged in Bengaluru for causing a disturbance on an Air India flight, allegedly threatening to "crash the plane." An investigation is ongoing.
A case has been filed against a local medical professional in Bengaluru, accused of causing a disturbance on an Air India flight bound for Surat, Gujarat. The accused has been identified as a 36-year-old Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai of Yelahanka. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 2:45 pm, The Indian Express reported.
According to the officials, Dr Mohanbhai allegedly demanded that cabin crew carry her hand baggage, which she had left in the front row, to her designated seat at 20F. When questioned about the inappropriate placement of her bag, she reportedly became agitated.
The situation intensified when Dr. Mohanbhai allegedly threatened to 'crash the plane," prompting the cabin crew to inform the pilot. When the pilot intervened, she refused to calm down, leading to her removal from the plane before departure, as per the police report.
Dr Mohanbhai was booked by the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police under sections 351 (4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353 (1)(b) (statements of public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as section 3(1)(a) (act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight which is likely to endanger the safety of such aircraft) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act.
Further investigation is underway, and more details are awaited.
To mitigate the impact, the airline will reduce frequencies on 16 international routes spanning North America, Europe, Australia, and the Far East, and temporarily suspend three routes from June 21 to July 15.

Bengaluru doctor threatens to ‘crash plane' after refusing to stow bag, offloaded from Air India Express flight

A passenger — a 36-year-old female doctor and resident of Shivanahalli, near Yelahanka in Bengaluru — was offloaded by police due to her alleged misbehaviour with cabin crew members and for reportedly threatening to crash Air India Express flight earlier this week. The incident took place on flight IX2749, which was scheduled to take off from Surat International Airport to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) around 2:30 pm on Tuesday. The confrontation began when the female passenger, Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, left her baggage midway in the aisle while grabbing her seat at 20F. When the crew requested her to remove the bag and place it in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused and instead demanded that the crew members move it for her, NDTV reported, citing sources. Despite multiple warnings from the crew and even an intervention by the pilot, Mohanbhai allegedly refused to cooperate and began behaving aggressively. She reportedly also yelled at fellow passengers who attempted to calm her down. The situation escalated when she allegedly threatened to "crash the flight." Following this, the pilot and cabin crew alerted security and CISF personnel, who promptly escorted her off the aircraft. The woman has been booked under sections 351 (4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353 (1)(b) (statements of public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as section 3(1)(a) (act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight which is likely to endanger the safety of such aircraft) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, the Indian Express reported. In a separate incident on Tuesday, 22-year-old Sadaad Mohammad Baba from Srinagar allegedly tried to force his way through departure gate 8 at Terminal 1 of Bengaluru airport. When CISF personnel intervened to stop the unauthorized entry, Baba reportedly pushed one of the security staff members.

DGCA had warned Air India for violation of safety protocols days before plane crash: Report

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had warned Air India of safety protocol violations after three of its Airbus planes continued operations despite pending security checks of emergency systems, Reuters reported, citing government documents. Air India has come under fire after its AI171 aircraft- a Boeing 787 -8 Dreamliner- crashed during takeoff from the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, killing all but one of the 242 people on board in addition to at least 28 people on the ground. According to the DGCA report cited by Reuters, the aviation watchdog found that three Air India Airbus planes were being operated despite mandatory inspections being overdue on the "critical emergency equipment" of escape slides, during spot checks last month. In one case, an Airbus A320 jet was found to have flown to international destinations such as Dubai, Riyadh and Jeddah, despite an over one-month delay in carrying out inspections.
