Freed Dunfermline Athletic defender linked with move to Northern Ireland

Freed Dunfermline defender Aaron Comrie could be on his way to Glentoran in the Northern Irish Premiership.
The former St Johnstone full-back was one of 14 players who left East End Park at the end of the season.
And the 28-year-old is reported to now be in talks with Glentoran about a move to Belfast.
Comrie spent six years with Dunfermline after leaving Saints in 2019 and racked up his 200th appearance for the Pars back in January.
He has been a dependable presence in the Fifers back line for five campaigns in the Championship and is a League One winner from two years ago.
However, with a big shake-up expected at Dunfermline this summer, he was deemed surplus to requirements when the club announced their retained and released list earlier this month.
Glentoran finished the season in third place in the NIFL Premiership but lost out to eventual winners Cliftonville in the semi-finals of the play-off for a UEFA Conference League spot.
Manager Declan Devine is eager to strengthen his squad after missing out on Europe and has targeted Comrie's experience in his summer recruitment.
The Glens' squad already includes Comrie's former Dunfermline and Celtic youth team-mate, Joe Thomson, as well as fellow Scot Liam Burt.
Comrie was joined by Rhys Breen, Joe Chalmers, Craig Clay, Michael O'Halloran, Omar Taylor-Clarke, Craig Wighton and David Wotherspoon, as well as six loan players, in being released by the Pars after the end of the season.
Wighton has since joined Montrose on a two-year deal after opting to go part-time, whilst Breen has spoken of facing a 'make or break' move following his exit.

The Scottish star completed his latest impressive spell on the PGA Tour with a brilliant late-Sunday burst to boost his finale at TPC River Highlands. ‌ MacIntyre played his last four holes of his tournament in four-under par to card a Sunday 66 and surge up the final standings in Connecticut with his best round of the week. ‌ Understandably, after such an epic performance, he was unable to recreate the scintillating magic of Oakmont the previous week and get into title contention as he had done when coming within a whisker of winning the US Open before being dramatically pipped at the death by winner JJ Spaun. But the Oban star still delivered mostly-strong work before the thrilling finale which has secured another positive step forward in the race for the FedEx Cup play-offs and, more crucially, the The Ryder Cup team. MacIntyre's Oakmont display rocketed him to fourth place in the European List and he cemented that excellent effort by banking more valuable points in Cromwell. Staring the week, the Tartan ace was one place behind Shane Lowry and one ahead of Sepp Straka in the List heading into the tournament and finished well ahead of both the Irishman and the Austrian in the closing positions at the Travelers to make more key ground. The 28-year-old went into the 28th and final competitive round of his gruelling seven-successive week spell on the two-under par mark and exchanged shots with the course to stay on that number through 14 holes of his final effort before the flying late flurry. MacIntyre first jumped forward with a chip-in eagle three on his 15th, the par-five sixth on the course as he started from 10th tee due to weather delays and restructured tee-times, to lift his position and backed it up immediately with a long-birdie putt at the next to stretch to five-under par. ‌ Following a par on his penultimate hole, MacIntyre concluded with another birdie at his last hole to cap the week and the lengthy spell of events in perfect fashion. The Scot's work has seen him take in the Truist Championship, PGA Championship, Charles Schwab Challenge, Memorial, RBC Canadian Open and US Open before this Travalers and MacIntyre will now return home for a short break before the defence of his Genesis Scottish Open title and The Open Championship at Royal Portrush the following week. Former Ryder Cup star David Howell is convinced the Scot can have a strong run in Northern Ireland having come sixth at the course in 2019 in his debut Open. He said: 'Yes [Scottie] Scheffler is going to be the favourite for that Championship, of course. But he is made for links golf, Bob MacIntyre. And he has proved to himself last week that he can win a Major because, when he had the chance, he did everything right. So he'll have his own expectations to deal with, but surely we'll have a good performance from him.' Jay Stansfield's energy sparks England's Under-21 Euros bid to life as £15m striker steps out of the shadows with tireless display against Spain, writes NATHAN SALT

Jay Stansfield isn't much of a talker. A quiet, unassuming character, it was easy for the 22-year-old to blend into the background in the early stages of this tournament. That's been a place that's been hard for Stansfield to find at club level, what with a £15million move to Birmingham City making him the most expensive League One player ever. Jeered by opposing fans at every ground and labelled a 'waste of money' at every missed chance, going away with England has proved quite the departure. Stansfield touched down in Slovakia with just three England Under-21 caps to his name, his most recent in March 2024, and observers of Lee Carsley 's group noted how it took him a day or two to bring himself up to speed. That's not a knock on Stansfield either. Of all the outfield players in this squad it is Stansfield that was playing at the lowest-ranked level last season in League One. Here he quickly found himself in high-intensity training sessions with Champions League pedigree talent. But after thriving in the spotlight in his first start of the tournament, Stansfield's days in the background look to be numbered. Now he stands firmly centre stage in England's bid to win back-to-back Euros. This is Stansfield's first tournament for England and at 22 he knows there are no guarantees he will get another one. So to see him empty the tank across 81 minutes against Spain, an energiser bunny that was a complete pest all evening for the Spanish, was to see a player that has been waiting for his chance to make a point. Mail Sport can reveal that Stansfield covered 10.1 kilometres in Trnava, 1.2km of which was at 'high intensity'. Stansfield also recorded 194 intensive actions - determined as accelerations and decelerations - which was the most of any player in an England shirt on the night. His high intensity running was also a team high. Having been patient for his chance, Carsley got every last drop out of Stansfield. 'Jay was outstanding and more than deserved his opportunity,' Carsley said. 'Jay's a very, very unselfish striker, the way that he presses, the way that he puts defenders under pressure. 'You want him to have that much energy though when he's in front of goal because he can't do all the other side of the game and not get the rewards. But I thought he was outstanding.' Stansfield is understated, rarely one to hype up his own performances and that job once again fell on team-mates who were seen lauding him on the pitch and near the team bus after Saturday night's 3-1 win. 'He made everyone around him a better player,' Channel 4 pundit Joe Cole mused afterwards. Nobody in England's dressing room disagreed. There are Jamie Vardy-like tendencies to the way Stansfield presses like a man possessed at times and that has been a trait that England lacked in a group stage where they struggled to find any sort of rhythm in attack. No Liam Delap complicated things for Carsley. Operating two false nines in a 4-2-2-2 system was the decision he made and Marseille's Jonathan Rowe, who looks much more comfortable playing wide on the left, got the three group stage starts up top, all without a goal. Stansfield waited for his chance, coming on late in the 3-1 win over Czech Republic and in the 0-0 draw with Slovenia. He got a half to show what he was about in the 2-1 loss to Germany but found it tough. But the message being passed on during England training sessions has long been that big moments will arrive for every player and in his 50th appearance of the season for club and country, Stansfield answered the call just as Carsley knew he would. 'He's had a good season at Birmingham and one of the big things for me that's most impressive is the pressure he has had to deal with,' Carsley told Mail Sport. 'They paid a lot of money for him, got that promotion under his belt, scored a lot of goals so I think him bringing that to this squad is a big thing for us.' He answered the call against Spain and now a date with the Dutch awaits in Wednesday's semi-final.
