Scottish star delivers final flourish at TPC River Highlands to end seven-week US run in style
Buoyant Bob MacIntyre delivered a searing sign-off from his seven-week sequence in the States as he finished with a fabulous flourish at the Travelers Championship.
The Scottish star completed his latest impressive spell on the PGA Tour with a brilliant late-Sunday burst to boost his finale at TPC River Highlands.

MacIntyre played his last four holes of his tournament in four-under par to card a Sunday 66 and surge up the final standings in Connecticut with his best round of the week.

Understandably, after such an epic performance, he was unable to recreate the scintillating magic of Oakmont the previous week and get into title contention as he had done when coming within a whisker of winning the US Open before being dramatically pipped at the death by winner JJ Spaun.
But the Oban star still delivered mostly-strong work before the thrilling finale which has secured another positive step forward in the race for the FedEx Cup play-offs and, more crucially, the The Ryder Cup team.
MacIntyre's Oakmont display rocketed him to fourth place in the European List and he cemented that excellent effort by banking more valuable points in Cromwell. Staring the week, the Tartan ace was one place behind Shane Lowry and one ahead of Sepp Straka in the List heading into the tournament and finished well ahead of both the Irishman and the Austrian in the closing positions at the Travelers to make more key ground.
The 28-year-old went into the 28th and final competitive round of his gruelling seven-successive week spell on the two-under par mark and exchanged shots with the course to stay on that number through 14 holes of his final effort before the flying late flurry.
MacIntyre first jumped forward with a chip-in eagle three on his 15th, the par-five sixth on the course as he started from 10th tee due to weather delays and restructured tee-times, to lift his position and backed it up immediately with a long-birdie putt at the next to stretch to five-under par.

Following a par on his penultimate hole, MacIntyre concluded with another birdie at his last hole to cap the week and the lengthy spell of events in perfect fashion.
The Scot's work has seen him take in the Truist Championship, PGA Championship, Charles Schwab Challenge, Memorial, RBC Canadian Open and US Open before this Travalers and MacIntyre will now return home for a short break before the defence of his Genesis Scottish Open title and The Open Championship at Royal Portrush the following week.
Former Ryder Cup star David Howell is convinced the Scot can have a strong run in Northern Ireland having come sixth at the course in 2019 in his debut Open.
He said: 'Yes [Scottie] Scheffler is going to be the favourite for that Championship, of course. But he is made for links golf, Bob MacIntyre. And he has proved to himself last week that he can win a Major because, when he had the chance, he did everything right. So he'll have his own expectations to deal with, but surely we'll have a good performance from him.'
MacIntyre made it clear in the immediate aftermath of Oakmont that he isn't shying away from the Major challenge and admitted it has handed additional belief as he said: 'There's no reason why I can't win a major championship in my career and that's my goal now. I said I wanted to win the Scottish Open and I got that. I just want to win Majors now.'

That's according to former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez who sounded off on the on-court pairing of two of tennis' biggest stars. In what is a new initiative by the major, nine of the world's top-10 women and nine of the world's top-10 men will break off into pairs in the event prior to the US Open singles tournament. ‌ The Spaniard - who is fresh off winning the HSBC Championships on Sunday - is in red-hot form and has won 17 matches in a row, including his historic French Open triumph over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner earlier this month. ‌ Raducanu, 22, has been a more active player on the WTA Tour this year after a period of significant injury issues and will compete on Tuesday in the Lexus Eastbourne Open in her final preparation for Wimbledon later this month. Given the pair have always maintained a friendship, it hasn't been much of a surprise that they've decided to team up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center which Martinez believes will result in exciting tennis to be produced. "I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. I was thinking that I couldn't play better if it wasn't with Emma. "I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request. She took a while to respond. Not that much, not that much! But obviously she had to ask, and she had to think a little bit. But it wasn't a minute! ‌ "I have known Emma for a really long time. I have a really good relationship with her. We are gonna enjoy it for sure. We will try to win. But obviously it's going to be really, really fun." The Spaniard captured a fifth title of the season on Sunday when he defeated Jiri Lehecka to win the HSBC Championship (Image: Getty Images for LTA ) The chemistry between the tennis stars already was on show recently after Raducanu attended Alcaraz's semi-final victory over Roberto Bautista Agut at the HSBC Championships. Article continues below Following the victory over his compatriot, a smiling Alcaraz spoke of his delight in seeing his partner support him. "I saw on social media she came up to watch my match," he said. "I'm just glad. I mean, I was focused on the match. I didn't see her afterwards. I am just glad that she came to support me, to watch my match. Yeah, I think it was great having her in the stands." They'll certainly have their work cut out for them with teams such as Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic, Zheng Qinwen and Jack Draper and more all in contention.

Connor Syme shares photo with Robbie Williams as Scottish golf star ready to rock The Open

Scottish star looking to back-up Dutch success with big show in Italy Connor Syme is aiming to go from a night with Robbie Williams to rocking The Open at Royal Portrush. The Fifer is brimming with belief heading into this week's Italian Open after his stunning first DP World Tour success last time out at the KLM Open earlier this month. ‌ Syme wants to keep rolling and now enters a three-week run of events which he hopes can lead to him securing a place in The 153rd Championship. ‌ Italy, the BMW International Open in Munich and the Genesis Scottish Open all offer tickets to Royal Portrush through high finishes. Syme and Bob MacIntyre played together at the iconic Northern Ireland venue during the Home Internationals a decade ago and he also reached the semi-finals of the Amateur Championship there the previous year. The pair can be reunited at the track with two Open spots firstly up for grabs in Italy and, speaking to the DP World Tour website, Syme said: 'It dangles a carrot onto already a brilliant golf tournament in the Italian Open. "I'd love to go back and play and try and test my game against the best in the world. Obviously, on the back of a win, it would feel really cool to do so. "My goal was obviously to try and get into the Majors first and foremost. To try and play them on a regular basis would be brilliant. Winning the KLM Open felt like a big hurdle for me and hopefully I can kick on from here. ‌ 'Obviously, Bob's been the gold standard for Scottish golf for a number of years now. It's so, so impressive what he's doing. I watched all the golf on the Sunday [of the US Open]. "It was very cool and inspiring to watch him do that. I've known Bob for a long time and seen him do that through all age groups, so this doesn't surprise me at all that he's now doing it at such a big stage. But, if I am taking anything from what I was able to do at the KLM, then it is to just really focus on what I was doing and what my brand of golf was like. 'As I said in my interview after finishing, I felt a lot more ready to step over the line this time. It just felt unbelievable. Was it worth the wait and did it make it feel a lot sweeter? Yeah, probably. Obviously with it being such a historic tournament as well, it's really, really special. I remember Padraig Harrington playing the Senior Open a couple of years back and he was talking about how golf is at least 90 per cent mental. For whatever reason, I was just able to get into such an amazing state of mind, certainly over the weekend anyway, and not focus so much on the outcome.' ‌ Syme's success added to Scotland's outstanding recent run with MacIntyre's Major efforts, Calum Hill's win in South Africa and strong displays from other Tartan stars such as Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest. He said: 'I am obviously trying to write my own script and my own history I suppose, but you do obviously feel the weight of: Is this ever going to happen? 'Calum was able to win for the second time this year, Ewen has got three wins. Before it did maybe add a bit more pressure on me to do it because I was aware I was the last one out of that crop to try and do that.' Since returning from Amsterdam, Syme and his wife, Alanis, have attended a Williams concert in Manchester and had a snap taken with the superstar backstage. He said: 'Nothing has felt rushed since the win. To actually enjoy it for the week, rather than jumping straight back into a tournament was extra special.'

Legendary Celtic player and Lisbon Lion died aged 84

The Hoops have announced that John Clark has passed away. The legendary footballer made his debut for the Glasgow side in 1959 and went on to make over 300 appearances for the club. John was also part of Celtic's famous Lisbon Lions, who won the European Cup in 1967. On top of John, the well-known Lisbon Lions squad was made up of Ronnie Simpson, Jim Craig, Tommy Gemmell, Bobby Murdoch, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone, Willie Wallace, Stevie Chambers, Bertie Auld, Bobby Lennox, and John Fallon. The squad was managed by Jock Stein alongside Sean Fallon, who was the assistant manager. By the time his footballing career at Celtic Park in the East End came to an end, John had won an incredible six league titles, five league cups, three Scottish cups, and one European Cup. The Hoops icon then returned to Parkhead to coach with the Celts' youths and reserve sides before linking up with Billy McNeil, becoming Cesar's assistant manager at Aberdeen and then at Celtic. After enjoying success in the dugout alongside his former captain, John embarked on his own managerial career in the late 1980s and early 90s, taking charge of Cowdenbeath, Stranraer and Clyde. His time at Celtic, however, wasn't finished, and John returned once again to the club that he loved, taking on the role as kit man, a role which he held for almost two decades from the 1990s onwards.
