I ran a sexy chat line while pregnant, it was hideously depressing

'Hello Melissa, it's your chicken!'
Oh joy, I thought, my eyes theatrically rolling skywards. 'Ooh, hello…. I'm going to chase you round the back garden with a chopping knife, yes I am. Then cut your little head off,' I replied in most sultry voice, given the circumstances.
'Oh, but don't you feel sorry for me – I thought I was your pet?' the man pleaded.
'Pet, pah! I've just been fattening you up for my Sunday dinner. Once your head is chopped off and you've stopped squawking I shall pluck out all your feathers, baste your flesh and pop you in the oven to turn you crispy and brown…'
A vegetarian, I paused to gag, then continued, 'before opening a delicious Chablis and laying the table in readiness. I will enjoy every morsel of your tender little body. What do you think of that, my chicken? Nom nom nom!'
Silence. He'd hung up.
When I was pregnant in 2000 and became too big to strip, I got a job on a sex phone line, working from home for six months. Men would ring up all day long, asking me to listen to their fantasies or just talk dirty to them.
It didn't take long before I'd got so good at at engaging my mouth but not my brain, that I could watch telly, do crosswords or read magazines while simultaneously whispering the words: wet, juicy, swollen, suck, tickle, in assorted permutations.
90% of the time I didn't have to do any actual thinking, which meant I rather resented the oddballs, like chicken man, who wanted something out of the ordinary.
I'd get hundreds of calls each day, earning 12p a minute from 8am to 8pm, or 16p a minute overnight. I'd usually do the late shift because I had a mortgage to pay and no partner to help out after we'd split when I was just 12 weeks pregnant. Plus, I was trying to save for the future.
Sometimes, my throat would grow sore from all the earnest ecstatic screaming the men demanded – but most of them were dull, dull, dull.
I'd sit by the phone for 13 hours straight and most callers were 'one minute w**kers' who said little, staying on the line just long enough to get the job done and slamming the phone down at the exact point of orgasm.
Indeed, I set myself up with quite a sound department over the months, including a bottle of water and a bucket for the water sports devotees; a cosy sleeping bag, whose zip doubled as my sexy thigh high boots; a whip to crack, and a chain to rattle.
As I used my landline, I got a great long extension cord so I could clean the house while I moaned about how desperately horny I felt. 'Mmmm, I'm lying here all alone, nearly naked…' I'd whisper, in my stained, sweaty dressing gown, while scrubbing a skirting board.
The callers never knew my actual number as they went through a switchboard which described the girls who were available. Before they men were patched through I'd get a recorded message saying what they wanted in vague terms – kinky, hard, romantic, soft – and then we would be connected.
I didn't suffer much from morning sickness, but on the rare occasions I felt a bit queasy, you could guarantee those were the times the weirdos would be in touch, as if they could sense my discomfort.
Disturbingly one liked to discuss public hangings, while another liked to stick a skewer down his urethra, then rub his old fellow with sandpaper, with a pair of his sister's pants in his mouth.
Why men called these chat lines was always an utter mystery to me. I couldn't ever fathom why they would think hearing a clearly bored woman talk nonsense would improve their w**k. Especially as more than half would be utterly silent and not even give me any clues at all what they were after.
What I do know, is that for a few, the anonymity gave them the courage to express their deepest desires. More Trending
Two weeks before I gave birth my phone ringer broke, small wonder, and I missed a hundred calls, which meant an automatic dismissal.
I can't say I was that upset – I had started to worry what my baby's first words might be. Not to mention it was the most hideous, depressing, soul-destroying job I've ever had – I'd sooner douche with a hedgehog than go back to it.
Ten days after the birth I got back into stripping, still with my stitches in, one knocker three sizes bigger than the other.

Paula McIntyre's breaks the mould with savoury madeleines and a seasonal crumble treat

Melissa McCabe was a finalist on the TV show Great British Menu and owns Feast Restaurant in Rostrevor. Last week she put up a picture of madeleines. These buttery French pastries are usually baked in a distinct oval shell-like shape, but Melissa's were round and beautifully marked. Needless to say, the trays arrived a couple of days later. Warm madeleines, straight out of the oven, served with a hot coffee, are one of life's great pleasures. You can shut your eyes and transport yourself to a Parisian patisserie or a fine establishment in Rostrevor…

Great British Bake Off's Paul Hollywood says 'I can disappear' as he hints at quitting UK

Great British Bake Off's Paul Hollywood says 'I can disappear' as he hints at quitting UK Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood has opened up on his love for Cyprus, where he wed wife Melissa, and hinted he may retire to the Mediterranean island Paul Hollywood (Image: Mark Bourdillion, Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images ) Paul Hollywood, famed for his role on the Great British Bake Off, has expressed his fondness for Cyprus, deeming it his "second home" and possibly the location of his future retirement. In a heartfelt dialogue with Woman's Weekly, the celebrity chef reflected on his recent soothing sojourn to Cyprus with his wife Melissa, having returned just before the interview. ‌ Cyprus resonates deeply with Hollywood, having first become enchanted with the country in the 1990s while he was the head baker at a local hotel. ‌ His connection to the Mediterranean island deepened in 1996 when he encountered his first spouse, Alex, and they were married there two years subsequently. After his previous marriage came to an end in 2019, Hollywood found solace in Cyprus once again, saying "I do" with Melissa Spalding, 41, reinforcing the significant presence Cyprus has had throughout his life, reports Gloucestershire Live. Great British Bake Off (Image: PA ) Article continues below "I consider it my second home," confided Paul to the publication. "I might retire there - it will be somewhere that no one will ever find me because I know places in the mountains that no one knows. I can disappear in Cyprus really easily!". The revered Bake Off judge, notorious for his piercing gaze and candid feedback, unveiled a more contemplative side as he mused over the peace and seclusion he revels in whilst amidst the tranquil Cypriot hideaways, well away from the limelight. The Merseyside-born baker is well-versed in globetrotting due to his career, which has taken him to various international destinations including Japan, where he explored the local cuisine, and Mexico. ‌ He's also been featured on The Great American Baking Show, an offshoot of the popular Bake Off series. However, it was his journey to the Maldives that stood out as particularly memorable for Paul, providing him with both relaxation and the opportunity to engage in his hobby of diving. Paul Hollywood (Image: CHANNEL 4 ) Article continues below On Alan Carr's Life's a Beach podcast, he recounted: "Maldives was one of those places that, it was a dream destination for me, and I managed to get there a couple of years ago and I just fell in love with it. I was on a beautiful island called Vakkaru and it was just a stunning island. "The sea, I'm a scuba diver so I did a bit of scuba diving while I was there, and it was just stunning. The fish, the sharks, the rays, and the food. "Everyone got bicycles, each villa got bicycles to get around the island on, it wasn't very big, you could literally get around it in a minute, but I loved it. I fell in love with the place."

Ex EastEnders actress has ‘breakdown' as she spots her ribs in picture after illness led to dramatic weight loss

Plus, what Melissa told The Sun about her unintentional weight loss last year 'I HATE IT' Ex EastEnders actress has 'breakdown' as she spots her ribs in picture after illness led to dramatic weight loss Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MELISSA Suffield has shared an emotional post on social media after she unintentionally lost weight because of an illness. Melissa, 32, was diagnosed with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) after experiencing "horrible nausea" in 2023. Sharing a snap from inside a fitting room, Melissa could be seen donning a bright green plunging dress. "I had a bit of a breakdown today," Melissa began her post. She said: "Today has been not a very good day. "I had a bit of a menty b in the changing rooms while I was filming some bits. "I'm sure light didn't help, but I could see my ribs visible in the middle of my chest," she explained, referring to her chest area visible because of the plunging neckline. Melissa added: "And I just totally lost it. Like, cartoon floods of tears, unable to catch breath, that sort of thing. "You can see it on my face, like I am seconds away from breaking the f*ck down. And that is indeed what then happened." Getting even more emotional, Melissa went on: "It's just such a visible reminder of how much SIBO has taken from me. How much else I've lost along with the weight. 'I HATE IT' "And that doesn't even begin to cover the mental/emotional impact. Former EastEnders star opens up about drastic weight loss after health battle and says she was healthier when she was bigger "The fact that we glorify weight loss so much much is weighing so heavy on me, especially when I look in the mirror and see this. I hate it. "I know there are people who would be overjoyed to see this, but when you lose the weight like this, trust me, it's not a nice feeling. There is no accomplishment. Just a reminder of everything you have lost. "And no matter how often I talk about it, I'm going through it alone. Nobody will ever truly understand, even if they're going through it themselves. "Nobody else will know what I'm thinking when my legs feel so heavy I can barely manage the stairs. Or how lonely it is when you're still awake at 3am because the nausea won't let you lay down." What is SIBO? SIBO is also known as Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. Melissa experiences nausea, reflux, constipation, and other symptoms like her hair falling out and suffering from dry skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs "when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract." Melissa then spoke about how she often talks about body confidence and embracing change, but noted how "this feels different" because there is "nothing to embrace". ANGRY BECAUSE OF SIBO She added how the impact her long term illness has had on her body image is "wild" before saying her body is "broken". The former soap star then said how she has to be a mother, an attentive partner, a cleaner, a cook and everything else in between, but when she was in the changing room, it was just her. "But in that changing room, nobody else, I'm just me. There aren't any responsibilities or asks. "So she puts it all down and she breaks in half. "And then she dries her eyes, and she cracks on. Again," she said. Melissa then revealed the "two good things" to come out of the "breakdown". "I got angry," she penned, revealing the first "good thing". "Yet again, another renewed fire for talking about SIBO. For educating as many people as possible. For helping people understand the symptoms, for forcing healthcare professionals to sit up and listen, for changing the perception, and for advocating for treatment. "A fight I will always show up for, no matter what." She then revealed the second "good thing", saying: "I bought the dress anyway. Because I love the colour, the cut, and of course, the pockets. "I'm not going to let SIBO take anything else from me." 'THERE'S NO JOY' Last year, Melissa opened up about her unintentional weight loss exclusively to The Sun. "Obviously, I've lost quite a lot of weight this year," Melissa began, adding: "But absolutely none of that has been through choice. None of it. Like I'm back in my pre-pregnancy jeans." 'She added: "But there's no joy," noting: "I don't enjoy the fact that that's happened at all in the way that you know, that's like a goal for a lot of people. "A) It was never a goal for me. But B) this is the complete antithesis of whatever I've ever wanted with my body. "So that's been tricky for sure. And then also, just on top of that, like my skin and my hair has been like affected. "Now I'm dealing with feelings of, you know, not enjoying the way that I look, which is frustrating because I've done such a lot of work to get me to a place where." 5 Melissa has a mass following on social media and raises awareness of SIBO while promoting body confidence Credit: Instagram/@
