A Philippine real estate platform is expanding its footprint in the Middle East.
In a press release issued Tuesday, Filipino Homes founder Anthony Leuterio announced that the platform may now legally and actively engage in property transactions in Dubai after he became a licensed property broker there.
'This is a milestone for Filipino Homes,' Leuterio said. 'Now that I am a licensed broker in Dubai, we are opening up legitimate, professional opportunities for cross-selling. Brokers in the Philippines can now market and sell Dubai properties in partnership with us.'
Leuterio said brokers in Dubai can partner directly with Filipino Homes to co-manage property listings, which will later create new channels for collaboration between real estate professionals in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.
''A lot of foreigners and Filipinos want to invest in Dubai but don't know brokers who are licensed there. Now, through FHI Global Properties, they have a trusted, Filipino-owned agency they can rely on,'' he said.
According to Leuterio, the expansion will enable Philippine-based brokers to take part in international transactions, helping them broaden their clientele and income potential.
It will also provide new career opportunities for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are based in Dubai, allowing them to become part-time brokers or full-fledged real estate professionals.
'We can now collaborate with developers in both countries, leveraging our globally competitive systems and platforms. Filipino Homes is ready to facilitate business both ways—selling Dubai properties in the Philippines and Philippine properties to Dubai-based investors,'' he said.
Meanwhile, Leuterio earlier announced that his Cebu-based Filipino Homes was organizing the Asian Real Estate Summit (ARES) 2025, which will take place on July 1 and 2, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand.
Leuterio said he is expecting participation to grow, with more than 30 top developers and 1,000 real estate professionals anticipated to attend. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA Integrated News

Marcos: OFWs deserve 'full support'

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Saturday that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) should receive "full support" from the government as he provided updates on initiatives aimed at improving their welfare. In his speech to the Filipino community in Osaka, Japan, Marcos stated that the government is making sure that opportunities are available to OFWs who choose to retire in the Philippines. (We also want your arrival and departure from our country to be smooth. That is why we have provided an OFW Lounge at the airport so that you can have a place to rest. We are also actively engaging with various countries that receive our workers to craft bilateral labor agreements so that we can ensure that work is safe and humane and that our compatriots are given the opportunity to succeed.) Marcos also recognized the sacrifices of OFWs to provide for their families in the Philippines. ''And that is why we will never tire of honoring you and finding ways to improve your lives. You are at the heart of our government's efforts, and you deserve not only our gratitude but also our full support,'' he said. Filipinos in Japan can also play a role in building "even stronger connections in shared values for a mutually stable, secure, and prosperous relationship between our two countries," the President said. 'This is why I hope you will join me and the Philippine nation in helping our community here in Japan to grow even more in love with the Philippines, to learn and embrace fully your Filipino identity, and to support our nation's aspirations for unity, for peace, and for prosperity,' he said. Marcos is in Japan for a working visit, which includes meetings with local businessmen and a visit to the Philippine Pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. He is expected to return to the Philippines on Sunday. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News

Trump says deal with Harvard possible 'over the next week or so'

Students walk on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US, May 23, 2025. REUTERS/ Faith Ninivaggi/File BOSTON - US President Donald Trump said on Friday his administration has been working with Harvard University and could announce a deal "over the next week or so" to resolve the White House's campaign against the country's oldest and richest university. Trump in a post on his social media platform Truth Social raised the prospect of a deal with the Ivy League school, which has sued after his administration terminated billions of dollars in grants awarded to Harvard and moved to bar the school from admitting international students. The Republican president's administration has said its actions against Harvard are justified based on a litany of allegations, including that the school was not doing enough to combat antisemitic harassment on campus. Trump said his administration is addressing "improprieties" at Harvard. He said individuals at Harvard "have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right." "If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be 'mindbogglingly' HISTORIC, and very good for our Country," Trump wrote. He made the statement shortly after a federal judge in Boston issued an injunction blocking the US Department of Homeland Security from immediately revoking Harvard's ability to enroll international students. That injunction prevents the US Department of Homeland Security from revoking Harvard's certification in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program without first going through a months-long administrative process, which it now plans to do. Harvard had no immediate comment on Trump's post, but in a statement it welcomed US District Judge Allison Burroughs' order, adding it "will continue to defend its rights—and the rights of its students and scholars." Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Harvard has filed two lawsuits seeking to unfreeze around $2.5 billion in funding and to prevent the administration from blocking the ability of international students to attend the university. Harvard alleges that Trump has been retaliating against it, violating its free speech rights under the US Constitution's First Amendment, because it refused to accede to the administration's demands to control the school's governance, curriculum and the ideology of its faculty and students. Burroughs is expected to rule in the coming days on Harvard's related request that she continue blocking implementation of a proclamation Trump signed barring foreign nationals from entering the US to study at the university. International students comprise about a quarter of its student body. —Reuters
