BRS moots declaring 400-acre Kancha Gachibowli land as Rohith Vemula Biodiversity Sanctuary

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has requested the State government to declare the 400-acre Kancha Gachibowli land abutting the University of Hyderabad (UoH) as protected land and name it after Rohith Vemula on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity observed on May 22 every year.
Senior leader of the party and former MP B. Vinod Kumar asked the State government as well as the national authorities concerned to take a historic and symbolic step and declare the land which was once allotted to UoH as the Rohith Vemula Biodiversity Sanctuary.
The UoH was not only a premier academic institution but also one of the richest urban biodiversity zones in the country. Its sprawling 2,300-acre campus is a living ecological reserve and it is home to over 734 species of flowering plants, 10 species of mammals, 15 species of reptiles and more than 220 species of birds, the BRS leader said on Thursday.
The BRS leader also proposed forming an ecological management committee with representation from UoH students, faculty, ecologists and civil society, launching biodiversity education and justice-based awareness programmes within the sanctuary to engage students and citizens alike.

Telangana: BRS MLC Kavitha seeks BC leaders support for proposed rail roko protest on July 17

Hyderabad, June 22 (UNI) Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC, K Kavitha, on Sunday sought BC Welfare Association national president and Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah for the proposed 'rail roko' protest scheduled on July 17. Kavitha, the daughter of BRS Chief and former CM KCR, who met Krishnaiah at his residence in Vidya Nagar here, requested his support for the ' Rail Roko' agitation, which aims to pressure the Central government to secure Presidential Assent for the bills granting 42 percent reservations for BCs in local body elections which passed by the Telangana Assembly earlier. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, MLC Kavitha lauded R Krishnaiah for leading numerous democratic and social movements. She stated that they have been fighting vigorously for two years to implement the Kamareddy BC Declaration given by the Congress party. She criticized the ruling Congress government, stating that despite the possibility of providing 42 per cent reservations through a GO under Article 243(D) of the Constitution, the government is not doing so and is instead shifting the blame entirely onto the President, planning to go into elections without providing reservations. She accused the Congress government of limiting its love for BCs to words and not showing it in actions. She expressed the need to collectively confront this anti-people policy, especially with leaks suggesting that the cabinet meeting might decide on local body elections. She explained that public movements appear to be the only way to pressure both central and state governments, hence the "Rail Roko" initiative. She declared, "Oar Ek Dhakka... BC Bill Pakka..." R Krishnaiah stated that MLC Kavitha is standing by the BCs and leading a movement, and he called upon all BCs to participate widely and support MLC Kavitha's movement. He praised Kavitha's struggle for the BCs, who have been subjected to injustice for generations. He remarked, "For whom is MLC Kavitha doing this movement? Isn't it for us? Therefore, we all need to support MLC Kavitha's movement. If we don't take up this movement, we have no future." He alleged that the state government is diverting public attention by rejecting the fact that the Constitution grants the state government the authority to determine the percentage of reservations in local bodies. He demanded that a GO be issued if there is genuine commitment to provide 42 percent reservations. He warned that holding elections without providing reservations would be a historic betrayal of the BCs. He unequivocally stated that if reservations are not increased, the BCs will not let go of the government. Country witnessing remarkable growth under Modi's leadership: Kishan Reddy

HYDERABAD BJP State president and Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said that the country has witnessed remarkable growth in all sectors over the past 11 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the previous Congress-led governments were known for 'inefficiency' and 'corruption'. Addressing the Viksit Bharat Sankalp meeting, Mr. Kishan Reddy said, 'People voted the BJP to power as they wanted to unseat the corrupt Congress government in 2014,' he said. Drawing parallels between the Modi government and the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, the BJP leader alleged that the Singh government was considered a puppet government. Referring to India's recent retaliation to the Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terrorist attack, Mr. Reddy said that Operation Sindoor had taught a befitting lesson to Pakistan. Mr. Reddy also slammed both the ruling Congress and the main Opposition BRS for 'failing to fulfill people's aspirations'. 'People are vexed with the corrupt BRS and voted it out of power. Then, they believed in the tall promises made by the Congress, but the Revanth Reddy government has miserably failed to fulfill the poll promises,' he said. Congress govt. shielding KCR family on KLIP row: Bandi Sanjay Kumar

Alleging massive corruption in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) under the previous BRS government led by KCR, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar hit back at the ruling Congress dispensation accusing it of being a shield for KCR family. 'Some people are spreading false propaganda that the BJP has changed its stance on Kaleshwaram and colluded with BRS. Our party's stand on the Kaleshwaram project is very clear, and our demand is for a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project,' Mr. Sanjay told the media in Karimnagar on Sunday. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said that the Kaleshwaram Project became an ATM for KCR's family. That is BJP's stand too. If any party leader speaks against the BJP's stand, it's wrong. The high command will deal with them,' he said in reply to a query. Has Congress leader Rahul Gandhi forgotten his earlier demand for a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram fiasco during the last Assembly elections? he asked. 'We don't trust the Congress government's current investigation into Kaleshwaram project. Our main demand remains a CBI inquiry,' he added. Citing the copies of the Central Water Commission (CWC) report, he said the CWC reported that Tummidihatti has water availability of 165 tmc ft based on the scientific assessment of the data from the past 33 years (1986 to 2013). 'But those at the highest echelons of power in the previous BRS government altered the design and looted public money by inflating the ₹38,000 crore project to ₹1.2 lakh crore,' he charged. 'The project failed to bring any tangible results.' If BRS claims that the Kaleshwaram project was built with Cabinet approval and sub-committee recommendations, why aren't they making those documents public? Mr. Sanjay asked. Taking a dig at KCR, he said that Mr. Rao, who called himself a top engineer, alone made all decisions including on Kaleshwaram during his tenure as Chief Minister. Stating that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) is a statutory body, the Union Minister said the BJP's view is that any future action on the Kaleshwaram project must be guided by the expert committee report.
