Taggart star looks unrecognisable 30 years after quitting acting
Daniela Nardini has undergone a huge transformation since her time on the show, as she's now quit acting altogether
Daniela Nardini, who shot to fame as lawyer Anna Forbes in the 1996 BBC2 hit series This Life, is barely recognisable today. The actress, who also graced screens in the Scottish crime drama Taggart, was on the brink of abandoning her acting career before securing her role in the BBC2 sitcom.
This Life, which spanned 33 episodes and 11 years, chronicled the lives of law graduates sharing a house while chasing their ambitions at a London law firm.
The show enjoyed two successful series and was later followed by a sequel TV movie in 2007 titled This Life +10. Daniela, now aged 57, not only won a BAFTA for her portrayal of Anna but also claimed her second BAFTA in 2009 for her role in the drama New Town on BBC Four.
Her other notable appearances include roles in Vera, Waterloo Road, and The Fades, before she took a step back from the spotlight in 2019.
Pursuing a new direction, Daniela trained as a mental health professional and now runs her own cognitive behavioural therapy practice in Glasgow, aiding individuals with depression, anxiety, behavioural issues, and those coping with cancer and addiction.
Three decades after her breakout role, Daniela has transformed remarkably, having embarked on a fresh journey in life, reports the Express.
In a Psychology Today profile, she reflects: "I have worked as an actress for over 35 years.
"This has been an invaluable education for me to study what it is to be human and how we can all suffer at times and feel misunderstood and lonely.
"I myself have struggled at times. My practice involves helping you gain insight, clarity and believe it or not humour at times. I don't shock easily so I won't judge."
Following "the worst five years of her life," which included her father's death in 2015, a cancer diagnosis in 2018, and a divorce, she chose to embark on this career path.
Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2020, she revealed: "I went through a very dark period. Sometimes I wonder if it was all the emotional stuff I was going through that caused my cancer.
"A couple of years down the road, I now feel as if I've emerged stronger and a better person, really. Anna would be proud."

King Charles knew Queen had died after hearing two devastating words
It was a bittersweet moment for Charles as he stepped into the role he'd been waiting for his whole life for. He was joined by his sister Anne, and the pair spent the final few hour's of the monarch's life taking turns to sit beside her, it's revealed in a new documentary. Channel 5's Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, sees experts discuss the moment Charles became the new King as they delve into the fact that he was 'summoned to Balmoral" from his own home on the Aberdeenshire estate, Birkhall, which is described as one of his favourite residences. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said in the documentary: 'He was told that it would probably be a few hours before she passed away." Royal expert and journalist Emily Andrews added: "Charles and Anne had been taking it in turns to sit with the Queen and then, I think, as she slipped into a coma, Charles needed a bit of fresh air and some nature. "So he went to the grounds of Birkhall, and it was there that he took the call." Viewers will discover that ahead of Charles being given the official news of the Queen's death, he already knew thanks to two words that were said to him upon answering the call. Jennie said: "He knew what had happened. "Because he was addressed by the person who rang him, the courtier, as 'Your Majesty' and then he knew, 'Well, my mother has died' and obviously he raced back to Balmoral to be at her side." It's also claimed in the documentary that members of the family felt relief after their huge loss because the Queen had been able to spend her last days at her beloved Balmoral, where she'd spent some of her happiest times. Emily Andrews added: "I think everybody in the Royal Family, actually, was really glad it happened in Scotland and for Charles as well to be at Birkhall, where it's such a kind of safe space for him, he feels very calm and relaxed, I think was very important'. After the news circulated within the wider family, Prince William, Edward and Andrew soon travelled to Balmoral, followed a short time later by Prince Harry. Gardeners' World fans upset over huge shift as they complain minutes into show
BBC's Gardeners' World is facing a wave of backlash as fans have accused the programme of becoming "a lifestyle program". The BBC's treasured show Gardeners' World has left its viewers reeling with some claiming the programme is leaning more towards becoming "a lifestyle program." The episode, which aired on June 20 to coincide with the summer solstice, took viewers to Damson Farm's enchanting setting in the stunning Somerset countryside where Frances Tophill was gardening. Yet, seasoned watchers promptly alleged that the series had veered dramatically from its original intentions. One irate viewer vented on X, once known as Twitter, saying "Percy Thrower would be turning in his grave. He was a great gardener," recalling the esteemed presenter who led the show during the 1970s. On screen, Frances delved into edible gardens and wildlife-conscious planting and Carol Klein dispensed advice for creating vibrant summer pots. Meanwhile, Adam Frost visited a gardener customising her garden to withstand recurring flooding. Despite the captivating scenes and moving narratives, a portion of the audience remained discontented. But the gripes don't stop at the perceived shortage of actual gardening advice – even the birdsong at Monty Don's Longmeadow abode has been caught in crossfire, with dubious viewers levying charges against the BBC for allegedly adding artificial chirps, reports the Express. Monty himself, however, has assured fans that the mix of bird calls is completely authentic, though sometimes it's more overwhelming than intended. Monty Don has responded to a common gripe from Gardeners' World viewers on the podcast, saying: "We've had a number of letters along the lines of, 'I watch Gardeners' World and I really enjoy it, but it's spoiled for me by the fact that you impose this bird song which is so unrealistic and so over the top... why don't you just record the natural sounds?' And the answer is, 'I hate to disappoint you, but that is the natural sound'." One disgruntled fan tweeted their dissatisfaction with the show's direction, commenting: "Not much horticultural guidance on #GardenersWorld these days." Another viewer expressed their longing for the programme's past focus, tweeting: "#GardenersWorld is becoming a lifestyle program for people with chronic anxiety. I remember when it taught you how to garden. Now anything goes." Monty also revealed that the birdsong at Longmeadow is sometimes so overwhelming it disrupts production: "It is really loud. And occasionally when we're filming, we delay filming because the bird song is so loud, that even to us it feels a bit odd and unnatural." Since Monty and his wife Sarah took charge of Longmeadow in 1991, they have turned a two-acre patch of neglect into a verdant sanctuary featured on the series. The couple's garden stands out as a wildlife refuge amidst neighbouring farmland ravaged by excessive use of chemicals. "So Longmeadow is like, literally an oasis surrounded by not-so-good," Monty said. "We have great density of blackbirds and song thrushes and blackcaps and all kinds of songbirds."
