83 lakh saplings to be planted, 20% fruit trees

: In an effort to make Sangam city greener, approximately 83 lakh saplings are set to be planted by various government departments this year. Around 20 percent of these will be fruit-bearing trees, including mango, jamun, and jackfruit.
According to reports, the forest department will plant about 22.45 lakh saplings, while other government departments have been assigned a combined target of 50.69 lakh saplings. District forest officer Arvind Yadav said that a significant number of trees were cut during the Mahakumbh festival to make way for development works. To make up for this loss, saplings including fruit-bearing varieties will be planted across the district.
The forest department has identified Shankargarh, Meja, and Koraon tehsils as the key areas for increasing green cover. These areas were chosen because they have large patches of vacant land. Efforts will focus on planting trees in dried-up ponds, barren land, and fields where trees have died. Neem, Peepal, and Gulmohar trees will be planted in most of these areas. From July onwards, several departments will begin planting trees according to their assigned targets.

Kollumedu Government High School transforms into a Green School

From being a school without a compound and cattle lying around on the grounds, the Government High School Kollumedu in Tiruvallur district now has gotten a complete facelift. It is the district's first green school and now has a green fence, walls with heat-absorbent paint, solar-reflective coated roof, and is a zero carbon-footprint institution. The school also has herbal, vegetable and ornamental gardens, vermi-compost shed, rainwater harvesting system, and LED lighting. The works were carried out with funds from the Environment Department and district administration and CSR funds from Aptus Value Housing Finance India Limited. Sanitation First (India) was the implementation partner. District Collector M. Prathap said that three more schools in Tiruvallur had been identified to be upgraded as green schools and the administrative sanction for the same had been issued recently. Schools at Thirumazhisai, Thirukandalam and Kuthambakkam would be a part of this initiative. A total of ₹30 lakh would be allocated from government funds and the rest would be pooled from corporate social responsibility funds, he added. Tiruvallur district Green Fellow under the Department of Environment, Sruthi Saravanan, said, 'We had conducted several awareness programmes for the students and teachers as to how these systems can be maintained. We had ten topics and focused the students based on their age. We made teachers and students in charge of each concept. A gardener-cum-watchman has been appointed for the school.' Sanitation First (India) Chief Executive Padmapriya T.S. said that Green schools would definitely make better study environments for students and work environments for teachers. The aim of this project was also to inculcate the importance of environment protection and sustainable living. 'The children have been taught about the biodiversities of Tiruvallur district through wall paintings. This school is in the middle of an open space. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable. The government gave it a biofence, solar system, rainwater harvesting system, and the gardens too,' she said.

460 Sprinkler Machines With Smog Guns To Hit Delhi Streets Soon: Rekha Gupta

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday that the national capital will soon be equipped with 460 sprinkler machines, 70 mechanical road sweeping machines, 70 litter picker machines, water tankers, and dust dump vehicles. CM Gupta said that over 1,000 water sprinklers will remain active across Delhi throughout the year (except during monsoon), leading to improved air quality and cleaner air for residents. She added that the operation of each machine and vehicle will be monitored from a central control room to ensure that they work at the right place, right time, and with maximum efficiency. The Chief Minister made the remarks after a demonstration of Water Sprinkler Machine Integrated with Anti-Smog Gun and other machines at Secretariat. CM Gupta said: "Each Assembly constituency in Delhi will soon receive high-tech equipment for air pollution control." The demonstration of high-tech machines included Electric Mechanical Road Sweeping Machine, CNG Mechanical Road Sweeping Machine, Litter Picker Machine, and Water Jetting Machine. During the demonstration, the CM was accompanied by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and officials from the Environment Department. CM Gupta stated that air pollution in Delhi is a serious issue. Dirt and dust accumulating along roads have been continuously deteriorating the capital's air quality, adversely impacting public health. "To tackle this challenge, the Delhi government made special provisions in this year's budget for deploying advanced machines for street cleaning. The aim is to ensure year-round road cleaning and water sprinkling," she said. CM Gupta said a comprehensive cleanliness and dust control plan has already been approved by the Cabinet. "Under this plan, Delhi will receive 460 water sprinkler machines integrated with anti-smog guns, 70 mechanical road sweeping (MRS) machines, 70 litter picker machines, Water tankers and dust dump vehicles. These machines will be equipped with modern features like GPS, CCTV, AQI monitors, video analytics, mobile apps, and IoT sensors," she said. She said such machines will support spraying, garbage unloading, and litter collection functions. This updated technology will enhance the quality of street cleaning and effectively reduce dust pollution.
