Certain areas seem like they're fated to be the optimal cruise destination, allowing travelers to experience exotic settings, rich culture, sweeping natural scenery and adventurous excursions beyond their wildest imaginations.
In this sense, Juneau, Alaska is the perfect destination for a memorable cruise vacation. Nestled along the shores of the Pacific Ocean, the city offers unrivaled views of the nearby mountains and neighboring wilderness, making it an ideal port for Royal Caribbean's seafaring ships to stop at for the day.
Unfortunately, due to mounting tensions between the city of Juneau and the popular cruise company, Royal Caribbean has decided to remove the destination from several upcoming cruises, impacting thousands of travelers' vacation itineraries.
The main factor affecting Royal Caribbean's operations with Juneau has mostly owed to the city's escalating docking fees for the cruising giant, as reported by Travel and Tour World. Additionally, Juneau's local government has come into direct confrontation with Royal Caribbean over a new cruise terminal slated for construction on Douglas Island.
As these issues continued unfold, Royal Caribbean has decided to drop several planned stops at Juneau from Ovation of the Seas' schedule. Though the company did not directly reference the recent price hike in their ships' docking fees, Royal Caribbean pointed to issues with port availability as the main reason for the unexpected change.
To make up for Juneau's removal from the Ovation of the Seas' itinerary, Royal Caribbean has replaced the city with stops at Sitka, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point. All three stops offer incredible views of the native Alaskan wilderness, as well as various pulse-pounding activities like ziplining or local fishing opportunities.
As of yet, it's currently unknown whether Royal Caribbean might announce further cancellations for Juneau, the cruise port serving as a beloved destination for many of the company's most popular Alaska-bound ships.

Why Centrus Energy Stock Leaped 5% Higher Today

Centrus was granted a contract extension by one of the most important clients imaginable. The pact covers the supply of a particular nuclear fuel. 10 stocks we like better than Centrus Energy › Centrus Energy (NYSEMKT: LEU) attracted the right kind of energy on the stock exchange Friday. The company's shares closed that session 5% higher, after it published news of an important contract renewal. That pop looked particularly impressive when matched against the S&P 500's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) trajectory, which dipped into the red with a 0.2% decline. Before market open that morning, Centrus divulged that the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) exercised its option to extend the company's contract to produce for it high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU). The extension now runs through June 30, 2026. HALEU is a type of nuclear fuel that has a level of enrichment considered most suitable for current nuclear reactor technology, including the small nuclear reactors (SMRs) that have recently come into vogue. In what's probably not a coincidence, Centrus' latest news comes barely a week after its business partner Oklo was tapped to build and operate a nuclear plant to supply heat and electricity to an Air Force base in Alaska. The two companies have a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in place for Centrus to supply HALEU for Oklo's projects. In its press release on the contract extension, Centrus added that the DoE holds options for further extensions to the existing contract. It could opt to keep Centrus's HALEU supply going for as much as a further eight years. So it's not only good news that a major business for the company has a longer runway, but it's looking for more as time goes by. Assuming President Trump's embrace of nuclear energy remains in place (and possibly outlives his administration), Centrus will be in a very good position indeed. Royal Caribbean cruisers react to Carnival cruise loyalty shakeup

As Carnival Cruise Line revealed details of its overhauled cruise loyalty program on June 18, it wasn't just Carnival cruisers who recoiled. Carnival Rewards, a spend-based rewards program set to roll out in June 2026, has many cruisers reeling, even some who don't sail with the cruise line. Related: Carnival Cruise Line faces major backlash over planned changes The new program appears to require passengers at the highest tiers to spend tens of thousands of dollars each year to maintain their elite status, and it could open the door for other cruise lines to do the same. Carnival's new spend-based loyalty program isn't a completely new concept - most airlines and hotels already follow this type of model, but the cruise industry has been slow to evolve. What do Royal Caribbean cruisers think about the new program and what it could mean for the cruise industry? Many "loyal to Royal" cruisers made their opinions clear in a discussion in the Royal Caribbean community on Reddit. Do you think this is something Royal and the other lines will try to adopt?" Redditor oOoOsarahOoOo asked fellow Royal Caribbean cruisers. "If so, would cruisers stay loyal to Royal, or would this be a reason to try other brands?" A number of cruisers reasoned that Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines will likely follow suit in a few years, if Carnival reports that the change increases revenue. "I think the other cruise lines are going to wait to see how this affects Carnival's business. If there's not too much of a difference, or somehow Carnival's earnings go up with this reward program? You will 100% see other cruise lines adopt this model," CricketCapital4095 commented. "This is an extremely logical move for [Carnival] to make, despite how many people are deep in their feels about it, and I'd bet the cost of my next cruise that other lines will follow suit within a couple of years of Carnival's first earnings call after this goes into effect," baltinerdist added. Commenters also pointed out that if the industry moved in this direction, cruisers may be more inclined to sail with multiple cruise lines rather than stay loyal to one in order to gain status. "If there is no loyalty program, then why be loyal," Routine_Day_1276 questioned. "That's the entire reason for it. Granted, you don't get a lot for being loyal, but anything that isn't an insult is better than nothing. In my opinion, what Carnival did is an insult to everyone who has been loyal. So no, if Royal went that route, I would not be loyal to them anymore." Royal Caribbean cruisers don't want the cruise line to change its popular Crown & Anchor loyalty program. Like Carnival's current VIFP Club, Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor program rewards cruisers based on nights sailed. Still, if the Carnival Rewards program proves successful, Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines would likely begin to incorporate spending-based rewards into their loyalty programs in some way. "Even if other cruise lines don't adopt the Carnival-specific model, I wouldn't be surprised if an 'onboard spending' category was added as a way to retain top-tier status. It's all about capturing dollars on board for the cruise lines," CricketCapital4095 pointed out. "If you're top-tier status but don't spend much on board, why would a cruise line much care about your loyalty status?
