Security bolstered in Ayodhya ahead of 2nd consecration ceremony in Ram temple
Ayodhya: Security has been heightened in Ayodhya, especially in the Ram temple complex, in view of the second consecration ceremony which will begin from Tuesday.
District administration and the police have chalked out an elaborate security and management plan for the rituals and ceremonies to be held at Ram Darbar and other temples within the complex.

"Security arrangements have been made keeping in mind the convenience of the people and devotees," Ayodhya district magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde said.
Commandos of anti-terrorist squad (ATS) took charge of the security of the temple complex, classified as a red zone, with half a dozen armoured vehicle, on Monday.
"A plan for round-the-clock surveillance has been devised and commandos have been assigned three shifts for duty within the temple complex," said Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover.
The security personnel have been provided accommodation within the complex for round-the-clock monitoring.
To ensure smooth completion of the second consecration, the Ayodhya DM and the SSP conducted a detailed inspection of sensitive points and entry routes in Ayodhya. They reviewed security and management plan implemented during the first consecration and instructed the implementation of security, management, and transportation arrangements while considering the convenience of devotees.

JHARSUGUDA: Lakhanpur police on Wednesday night arrested five persons including former chairman of Brajrajnagar municipality Kishor Agarwal for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers loading coal at Lakhanpur opencast mines. Apart from prime accused Agarwal (65) of Lamtibahal, his associates Stifen Paramanik, Amarendar Singh, Sujit Kerketta and Sashi Dhar Chouhan were arrested under sections 296, 308 (6), and 61 (2) of BNS. The arrests were made on basis of a complaint filed by one Sunny Ram (36), a truck driver of Simdega in Jharkhand, alleging coercion and threats by the accused. Ram filed the complaint on June 18 alleging that the accused demanded Rs 145 per truckload to affix a seal on loading slips, essential for issuing challans. The driver claimed he was transporting coal in his truck when Singh and two of his associates approached him and demanded money. When he refused, they reportedly manhandled him and threatened him with dire consequences. The accused also warned that his truck would be blacklisted if he did not pay. Ram further said the three accused claimed to be operating under Agarwal's instructions and boasted of high-profile connections. Fearing retribution, the driver paid the amount, and a seal marked 'LSS' was placed on his loading slip. Brajrajnagar SDPO Chintamani Pradhan said basing on the complaint, police registered a case and started investigation. Subsequently, the five accused were arrested and produced in court. Sources said around 400 to 500 trucks, each carrying 17 to 18 tonne of coal, are dispatched daily from Lakhanpur opencast mines to various industries like Vedanta, JSW, BPSL and Hindalco. Agarwal, who owns IB Valley transport, allegedly collected Rs 5 per tonne of coal from transporters. He had secured a tender of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) at 99 per cent discount to load 400–500 trucks daily at Lakhanpur mines using his payloaders. The illegal collection of money was going on for years. Contacted, general manager of Lakhanpur Area AK Pandey said they support coal dispatch by rail and oppose transport by trucks. Steps are being taken to stop illegal collection from truck drivers, he added.

Jharsuguda: Police on Thursday arrested five men, including the former chairman of Brajrajnagar municipality, for allegedly extorting money from a truck driver transporting coal from Lakhanpur coal mines. The arrests followed a complaint lodged on June 18 by Sunny Ram, a 36-year-old truck driver from Simdega district, Jharkhand. Ram reported that he was coerced into paying Rs 145 per truck by a group of men before his transport documents could be processed. The extortionists allegedly claimed to be collecting the money on behalf of Nand Kishor Agrawal (the former chairman). "Further investigation on the matter is underway," Jharsuguda SP Smit P Parmar said.

Meerut: A 32-year-old Army soldier has been arrested in Meerut's Pallavpuram area with 70 AK-47 cartridges, which he allegedly stole and intended to sell after bringing them from J&K, police said on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said that an Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) officer lodged a complaint on Wednesday after detaining the accused at Pallavpuram police station. An FIR was subsequently registered under Section 7 of the Arms Act, which pertains to unauthorised possession or sale of prohibited arms or ammunition. "The arrest was made on the same day following a tip-off," the officer added. The identity of the soldier, who is in the rank of sepoy, has not been disclosed due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, officials said. According to a copy of the FIR accessed by TOI, the accused told the police that the cartridges had been kept hidden from the anti-terrorist operations of the Army during his posting in J&K. He added that he had come to sell the cartridges in Meerut but got arrested. Currently posted in Maharashtra, the sepoy had come to his native village in Meerut's Daurala area on June 9 for a month-long leave. During the arrest attempt, he allegedly tried to flee in his vehicle but was nabbed. Military intelligence, local police, and other security agencies are jointly investigating to identify the intended recipient and whether there are any links to criminal or terrorist networks.
