Prock scorches Bradenton with 3.791s qualifier

Yahoo08-02-2025

Defending NHRA Funny Car champion Austin Prock got his 2025 off to another fast start with a record-setting turn in qualifying for the PRO Superstar Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
Prock, who won last year's Shootout in his first race in a nitro Funny Car, made the quickest run in history during Friday's final qualifying session in his John Force Racing Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS, stopping the timers in 3.791s at a speed of 331.53mph.
It was the climax to a dominant week for the 29-year-old Prock, who was quickest in testing (3.805s) and in all four qualifying sessions (3.861s, 3.882s, 3.860s and 3.791s) of the pre-season event.
'That thing was trucking down there,' Prock said of his historic 3.791s that is two ticks quicker than the official NHRA record of 3.793s set by his predecessor in the Cornwell Chevy, Robert Hight. 'I had my hands full. I got really close to the centerline and that might have scrubbed off that three-thousandths we needed to go (3).78. But I'm really proud of this team.
'It's been eight years since someone has run (3).79,' he noted. 'The race cars and rules were much different (then), so to get back to that number says a lot about this team, says a lot about my dad (crew chief Jimmy Prock), Thomas (Prock) and Nate (Hildahl). They do a really good job and it sure is fun.'
The Shootout concludes Saturday.

Dystany Spurlock to Make NHRA History With Support From Foxxtecca

DETROIT, June 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Foxxtecca is making history with professional motorcycle drag racer Dystany Spurlock, who will become only the second Black woman ever to compete in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class. She makes her debut Juneteenth weekend, June 20–22, at her home track, Virginia Motorsports Park, during the Virginia NHRA Nationals. Spurlock joins trailblazer Peggy Llewellyn in one of motorsports' most exclusive and underrepresented clubs, women of color competing at the sport's highest level. "Since 2021, I've been working behind the scenes with Dystany Spurlock to help her reach the next level in her career," said Chris Harris, co-founder of Foxxtecca, a media and mobility company focused on culture and equity. "In my eyes, she checks every box. Unfortunately, many of the companies we approached weren't willing to provide the financial backing needed to take that next step, so my partner and I, Kellie Crawford, made the decision to invest in her ourselves. "We're not shying away from the DEI conversation, we're embracing it fully as we continue to break barriers. Foxxtecca may be a small company with limited resources, but we believe in Dystany and understand the impact of her visibility at this level. Our hope is that this moment inspires larger companies to recognize her talent and come alongside her for a full-time campaign in 2026." Spurlock will debut as part of Arana Racing, a respected father-son team led by Hector Arana Sr. and Hector Arana Jr., both champions and innovators in motorcycle drag racing. The partnership marks a powerful cultural milestone, bringing together Black and Hispanic excellence on one of drag racing's biggest stages. "This moment has been years in the making," Spurlock said. "I've faced every kind of roadblock imaginable, but I've never stopped chasing this dream. I'm proud to represent my community, and I'm beyond thankful to Foxxtecca for believing in me when so many didn't. This isn't just about me racing, it's about showing the next generation what's possible." The Virginia NHRA Nationals will take place June 20–22 in North Dinwiddie, Va., at Virginia Motorsports Park. Spurlock's debut is expected to draw fans, supporters, and media eager to witness a pivotal moment for motorsports, culture, and representation.
