Rachel Falls Short Again In Quest For Asian Title
National squash player Rachel Arnold (top left) fell short in her bid to end Malaysia's decade-long title drought in the women's category of the 23rd Asian Individual Squash Championships after losing to Hong Kong's Ho Tze Lok (second, top left) in the final at the Sarawak Squash Centre, Petra Jaya. KUCHING, June 21 (Bernama) -- National squash player Rachel Arnold's struggle to end Malaysia's decade-long drought as the women's champion of the Asian Individual Squash Championship, once again failed when she lost to Hong Kong's Ho Tze Lok in the final of the 23rd edition at the Sarawak Squash Centre in Petra Jaya today. The world 19th-ranked player had to accept the superiority of her opponent after losing 4-11, 12-10, 4-11, 0-11 in a 36-minute match. The Kuala Lumpur-born player put up a tremendous fight in the second set but failed to curb the continuous pressure of the Hong Kong player who appeared more consistent and sharp in her shots. bootstrap slideshow 'I am a bit disappointed with my performance in the final... I admit the pressure was quite high and I feel I was unable to adapt to the court conditions today. 'She (Ho) played really well today. She was putting me under a lot of pressure. Every time she did that, I would just sort of go for it. Now I think maybe I should have just stayed calm in those situations,' said the 29-year-old player, who also admitted that the hot weather was a big challenge throughout the match. Malaysia's all-time great Datuk Nicol Ann David, the queen of squash who is also a nine-time Asian champion, was the last national female player to win the tournament in 2015. At the 2021 edition in Islamabad, Pakistan, Rachel's dream of winning the title was also extinguished after losing to Hong Kong player Tong Tsz Wing in the final. Even though her maiden Asian title is still elusive, Rachel is determined to continue to stay in the hunt for gold in the next edition. 'My goal is still to get the title, eventually... I am aiming towards getting a better ranking in the PSA (Professional Squash Association). I think of breaking into the top 10 in the end, that is my main goal," she said.

FIH Nations Cup 2025: Malaysia Finish In Sixth Place
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia finished in sixth place in the 2025 FIH Hockey Nations Cup after losing 1-2 to Wales at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today. In the fifth-sixth classification match, both teams displayed a balanced style of play before the Speedy Tigers took the lead in the 20th minute through a penalty corner conversion by defender Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan. Wales pulled level in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner by Rhys Bradshaw. bootstrap slideshow Gareth Furlong, however, proved to be Malaysia's thorn in the side when he scored the winning goal with just 10 minutes remaining in the match. Meanwhile, national head coach Sarjit Singh said his players' performance was still far from satisfactory, citing a lack of speed and missed chances to kill off the game at the right moment. 'The young players need to learn. We cannot afford to make mistakes where we're leading 1-0 and thus we paid the price. 'But it's okay, the good thing is every player's commitment on the pitch was good. Only thing we need to improve is our marking in defence,' he told reporters after the match. In the previous edition, Malaysia finished seventh in Gniezno, Poland. In the seventh-eighth classification match also held today, Japan defeated South Africa 2-1.

Malaysia suffer first ever defeat to Wales and finish sixth in Nations Cup
Sad exit: Malaysia finish sixth in the Nations Cup. - Bernama BUKIT JALIL: The national hockey team walked out with heads hung low after finishing sixth at the Nations Cup on Saturday (June 21). The Speedy Tigers' weaknesses once again were laid bare as they lost 1-2 to Wales in the fifth-sixth classification match at the National Hockey Stadium and failed to meet the top five target set by coach Sarjit Singh. Desperate to redeem themselves at the tournament after failing to make it to the semi-finals, Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute after converting a penalty corner. Malaysia then let their opponents catch up when Rhys Bradshaw equalised in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner as well. Wales' Gareth Furlong then delivered the final blow to Malaysia in the final quarter, scoring the second goal from a penalty corner in the 50th minute. It was an extra sweet win for Wales as it was their first win in the past six meetings with Malaysia. Malaysia last won against them in 2021 during a test match at the Reading Hockey Club in England.
