Bernama Aces win first DRB-HICOM Media Pickleball title
MALAYSIAN NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY (Bernama) journalists Ahmad Syabil Sultan Noordin and Ahmad Aidil Syukri Hamzah emerged champions of the inaugural DRB-HICOM Media Pickleball Challenge 2025 held at Pickle Nation, Glenmarie, today.
Competing under the name Bernama Aces, the pair outplayed 27 other teams from various media organisations to make history as the tournament's first-ever winners.
In the final, Bernama Aces defeated fellow Bernama team Bernama Pickles, comprising Mohamed Syamsul Adlien and Muhammad Khairi Azwan Mohd Kamal, while TV3 Colour Bar secured third place.
'We're truly excited and grateful for this victory. Although it was our first time playing in a pickleball tournament, our teamwork and basic training really paid off,' said Ahmad Aidil Syukri when met after the final.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Syabil noted that the tournament was not only physically challenging but also provided an excellent opportunity to foster camaraderie among media professionals and the organisers.
The tournament aimed to promote sportsmanship and closer networking between media practitioners and corporate entities.
It was supported by DRB-HICOM as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle among media personnel.

I admit the pressure was quite high and I feel I was unable to adapt to the court conditions today. 'She (Ho) played really well today. She was putting me under a lot of pressure. Every time she did that, I would just sort of go for it. Now I think maybe I should have just stayed calm in those situations,' said the 29-year-old player, who also admitted that the hot weather was a big challenge throughout the match. Malaysia's all-time great Datuk Nicol Ann David, the queen of squash who is also a nine-time Asian champion, was the last national female player to win the tournament in 2015. At the 2021 edition in Islamabad, Pakistan, Rachel's dream of winning the title was also extinguished after losing to Hong Kong player Tong Tsz Wing in the final. Even though her maiden Asian title is still elusive, Rachel is determined to continue to stay in the hunt for gold in the next edition. 'My goal is still to get the title, eventually... I am aiming towards getting a better ranking in the PSA (Professional Squash Association). I think of breaking into the top 10 in the end, that is my main goal," she said.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia finished in sixth place in the 2025 FIH Hockey Nations Cup after losing 1-2 to Wales at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today. In the fifth-sixth classification match, both teams displayed a balanced style of play before the Speedy Tigers took the lead in the 20th minute through a penalty corner conversion by defender Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan. Wales pulled level in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner by Rhys Bradshaw. bootstrap slideshow Gareth Furlong, however, proved to be Malaysia's thorn in the side when he scored the winning goal with just 10 minutes remaining in the match. The Speedy Tigers' weaknesses once again were laid bare as they lost 1-2 to Wales in the fifth-sixth classification match at the National Hockey Stadium and failed to meet the top five target set by coach Sarjit Singh. Desperate to redeem themselves at the tournament after failing to make it to the semi-finals, Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute after converting a penalty corner. Malaysia then let their opponents catch up when Rhys Bradshaw equalised in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner as well. Wales' Gareth Furlong then delivered the final blow to Malaysia in the final quarter, scoring the second goal from a penalty corner in the 50th minute. It was an extra sweet win for Wales as it was their first win in the past six meetings with Malaysia. Malaysia last won against them in 2021 during a test match at the Reading Hockey Club in England.
