Former Commanders Rival Sounds an Alarm

As far as the Washington Commanders faithful are concerned, there may not be a more evil entity than anything connected to the Dallas Cowboys. Former players and coaches make the skin crawl. It's nearly impossible to watch Monday Night Football because one has to listen to Troy Aikman's voice and be irritated by what he is saying.
Alternate viewing methods for MNF aren't particularly helpful either. A ManningCast airs on ESPN2, which means innocent Commanders fans must subject themselves to a broadcast manned in part by Eli Manning.

A Cowboy on one channel... A New York Giants legend on the other. What's a fan to do? Perhaps it's possible to place either broadcast on mute, find Bram Weinstein's radio call, and try to sync the sound and visual?

Two-time Commanders rival issues a stern warning
It's been a rough go, but the dark clouds seem to be lifting off of this franchise. Washington has qualified for the postseason six times since the Y2K scare but hasn't been able to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to the display case. Hope has come in the form of Josh Harris, Adam Peters, Dan Quinn, and Jayden Daniels.
A phenomenal run last season that unfortunately ended during the NFC Championship Game has the Commanders faithful hoping for more. To Washington's credit, they didn't sit on their hands. They added Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel by way of trades, and a former Commanders rival believes that should send shockwaves through the NFL if it hasn't already.
More news: NFL Insider Gives Positive Update on Commanders Star's OTA Absence
As stated earlier, there may not be anything more detestable to the Commanders' faithful than former Cowboys. Then again, being a former Cowboy AND Giant might actually be worse. Favor may fall on Isaiah Stanback, however, he recently offered a theory that the DMV may see as being acceptable.
During a recent airing on NFL Network's Good Morning Football, he put the NFL on notice.
.@IamSTANBACK believes that @19problemz is primed to have "one heck of a season" with the @Commanders in 2025 👀 pic.twitter.com/yytx7eqD8M — NFL Network (@nflnetwork) June 2, 2025
Stanback spent his first two seasons at the professional level with the Dallas Cowboys before stops with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks led him to the Giants organization. He'd win a Super Bowl as part of Big Blue's practice squad before finishing his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
His recent theory makes a ton of sense. Jayden is accurate and plays well beyond his years, and yes, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel are sure to provide fireworks as a one-two punch. Zach Ertz still has some gas in the tank. Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler join Daniels in the backfield.
More news: Best and Worst Picks for Every NFC East Team in NFL Draft
If Daniels continues his upswing and Deebo returns to form after an injury-plagued 2025 NFL season, there's no telling how good the Commanders can be. For the first time in a long time, winning that fourth Lombardi Trophy and the sixth championship overall seems like a reasonable ask for a proud franchise.

Steelers hint at new Terrible Towel, special announcement coming next week
Steelers fans may soon get a glimpse at the 50th anniversary edition of the Terrible Towel — as a special announcement is coming next week. The official Steelers Pro Shop teased that a reveal is coming, posting an image on social media of what appears to be a close-up of the 50th anniversary 2025 Terrible Towel. Back in May, Steelers President Art Rooney II claimed a new throwback jersey was set to be revealed in July, and also hinted at a 'little celebration' for the 50th anniversary of the Terrible Towel. Advertisement The Steelers debuted the Terrible Towel on December 27, 1975, in a playoff matchup against the Baltimore Colts, and it has since become a larger-than-life symbol of Pittsburgh sports — evident by its journeys to unbelievable locations such as Mt. Everest and space. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. Bills Praised For 'Home Run' Offseason
Bills Praised For 'Home Run' Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When it comes to assessing the Buffalo Bills' offseason, most gravitate to the things they haven't done - like extend James Cook. Advertisement However, it is worth noting that the franchise has done a great deal of good over the past couple of months, both by signing key free agents and by re-signing their young talent. Yes, we get it with Cook, but we also can't overlook how this roster is constructed and that a lot of young, promising talent have seen their futures be pledged to Buffalo. For SI's Matt Verderame, in his good, bad, and ugly from the 2025 offseason, Beane's ability to get most key players re-signed is definitely a positive. "This offseason, general manager Brandon Beane extended a slew of his younger, homegrown players, including corner Christian Benford, receiver Khalil Shakir, linebacker Terrel Bernard and edge rusher Gregory Rousseau," Verderame writes. "There's not a single Pro Bowl or All-Pro nod between the quartet, but each is a rising star at his position and Beane got them all on good deals. Advertisement "The only remaining question in this realm is running back James Cook, who has a year left on his rookie deal. Cook led the league with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 but is still slated for free agency. If Cook re-signs at some point, that's another home run for Beane and the Bills." © Tina MacIntyre-Yee/Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images With a host of key players now locked away, the Bills can look forward to what they hope will be a 2025 season that ends in Josh Allen hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Yes, Cook and his contract saga have taken the edge off what has been a fruitful offseason, but there have been good strides made elsewhere with the roster. Advertisement None of the contract extensions were ridiculous in terms of money, so the Bills will be in a good spot, salary cap-wise, down the line. But while those deals were "home runs," there is still one more that must be done. Somehow, someway, figure out a deal for Mr. Cook, and this 2025 would have been as close to perfect for Buffalo as you can get. Commanders' McLaurin Trade Proposal To Allen's Bills Violates Super Bowl Plan
Commanders' McLaurin Trade Proposal To Allen's Bills Violates Super Bowl Plan originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's not that some of the national media trade predictions involving Terry McLaurin lack a foundation in reality; there are some proposals that are actually "fair.'' Advertisement And yet ... there is still no reason for the Washington Commanders to bite. Take the latest speculation as it involves the Buffalo Bills and their Josh Allen-led offense. That's a 30-points machine ... and it was (and will be again, probably) accomplished without a traditional "WR1.'' So naturally, in Buffalo, there is reason to search for help beyond Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer and second-year pro Keon Coleman. Now to Washington. The talented McLaurin is in the midst of a contract battle with the Commanders, the only team he has ever known in his six NFL seasons. He's been a good soldier and a fine player and is coming off his best year yet, earning All-Pro honors after catching 13 touchdowns. Advertisement And he wants a contract extension - probably in the $30 million per year range - and has therefore been a minicamp holdout. One proposal suggests a trade between Washington and Buffalo "could be a win-win situation.'' That idea: Buffalo gets McLaurin in exchange for a second-round and fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft pick. For the Bills? That's Buffalo giving up draft capital to push for a Super Bowl now. Sensible. For the Commanders? "Fair'' isn't good enough, and here's why: The Jayden Daniels Era Window is open, and the same "win-now approach'' that exists in Buffalo should exist here. The Commanders - one win away from The Big Game a year ago - greatly lessen their chances of making a Super Bowl if they strip themselves of one of their best players. Advertisement A McLaurin-less roster violates this team's Super Bowl plan. If Washington were something less than a true contender? There could be sense to building for the future. But there's an old saying in Washington, and it very much applies to why McLaurin must be signed, not dealt. "The Future is Now.''
