Apart from daily dose of yoga, stress is on minimal oil intake as well

Visakhapatnam: Apart from advocating a daily dose of yoga for individuals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid emphasis on adopting a healthy lifestyle by making subtle changes in diet plans. The 11th edition of the International Yoga Day' (IYD) celebrations that focused on the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' took a significant step towards this direction as Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommended workable measures to battle obesity at individual-level. As India currently ranks third globally in the number of individuals with obesity, the Union government has shed its focus on leading a battle against obesity by drawing masses on to a platform, encouraging them to whip up a daily menu that includes minimal oil. Considering the 'International Yoga Day-2025' as an effective stage to not just promote the umpteen benefits of yoga but also advocate healthy diet practices that would go a long way in tackling obesity concerns, the Prime Minister stressed on reducing the quantity of edible oil used in daily cooking. To start with, the PM underlined the need to slash oil consumption by 10 percent minimum. Terming obesity as a growing global challenge, the Prime Minister recalled how he had launched a challenge during the 'Mann Ki Baat' programme to bring down oil consumption in daily diets. Again, in Visakhapatnam where the record-breaking IYD was held, the PM encouraged citizens across the country to join the challenge. Underlining the need to build awareness about conscious-oil consumption, Modi emphasised that cutting down on oil, staying away from unhealthy diets and adhering to a daily yoga practice form vital components of ushering in a healthy lifestyle. Even earlier, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. Back then, the proposal submitted by the Modi Government was supported by 72 countries. In order to take the momentum forward, the Government of India adopted a multi-stakeholder engagement approach, involving farmers, exporters, retail operators, hotel associations and startups. The main agenda was to position India as the 'Global Hub of Millets' as the PM was keen on popularising millets as much as yoga. Even for the IYD-2025 celebrations, millet-based organic breakfast was served to VVIPS, VIPs and a section of participants. Targeting health through minimal oil usage, fitness through yoga practice and inner peace as a part of 'yoga for humanity 2.0', the agenda of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' is not just confined to promoting circular economy principles but also encouraging responsible consumption among masses so that it would set an example for future generations. Apparently, the IYD-2025 event has set serious food goals for people, Gen Z in particular.

Unregistered hosp sealed after Ayushman scheme fraud in Kashi; min orders FIR

Varanasi: Taking swift action in response to a case of alleged fraud under Ayushman Bharat scheme, UP Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, who is also the in-charge minister for Varanasi district, on Saturday ordered the immediate closure of an unregistered hospital and the lodging of an FIR against its operator. The minister was in the city to lead International Yoga Day events on Saturday, when he reached the Prime Minister's parliamentary constituency office in Jawahar Nagar for a public hearing. The action came after Surendra Banwasi, a local resident, filed a complaint during the public hearing. He alleged that Asha Hospital, located in Nayepur area under Baragaon police station limits, had claimed reimbursement for his father's treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme while also charging him money for the same services. The hospital later refunded the amount taken from Banwasi. Responding immediately, the minister directed the Chief Medical Officer and local authorities to probe the matter and take decisive action. CMO Dr Sandeep Choudhary said that a medical officer, Dr Sher Muhammad, was appointed to investigate. Upon verification, it was found that the hospital was functioning without valid this revelation, Dr Muhammad, accompanied by the Baragaon police, reached the hospital and ensured its closure with immediate effect. "The in-charge minister took the complaint seriously and instructed for strict action without delay. The hospital was found unregistered and action was taken on the same day," said Dr Choudhary.

Work on to introduce yoga in school curriculum: CM Majhi

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said the state government has taken the initiative to integrate yoga into school curriculum and public health programmes in a bid to build a healthy, self-reliant, efficient and empowered Odisha. Participating in a state-level event at Kalinga Stadium on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the chief minister said efforts are being made to make yoga an integral part of everyone's life. Workshops and awareness programmes are being organised through schools, colleges, hostels and sports centres. Yoga sessions are being held in all districts of the state and thousands of people have joined these programmes to celebrate Yoga Day, he said. Majhi said yoga is not just a physical exercise or limited to a few asanas. It is a unique blend of physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual aspects. Yoga has become universally accepted, transcending boundaries of caste, religion and creed. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, steps were taken to introduce yoga to the world, leading to the United Nations declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga is a precious gift from India to global humanity and now people across the globe celebrate Yoga Day with enthusiasm and zeal, he said. The theme for this year's International Yoga Day is 'One World, One Health for Yoga', which highlights the deep connection between individual well-being and the health of the planet. The state-level yoga event saw participation of around 15,000 people, including ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior officials of the government.
