
IHC to invest in India snacks giant Haldirams

A. SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI) Abu Dhabi-based investor International Holding Company (IHC) has decided to invest in India's leading snack company Haldirams, whose variety of savouries are popular with subcontinental expatriates living in the UAE.A statement by Haldirams confirming the investment was posted on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) website on Monday. Alongside IHC, US-based investor Alpha Wave Global has joined the company's ongoing equity round, following Singapore sovereign investor Temasek's participation.No financials on the extent of IHC's investment in the Indian snacks company were given. Established in 1999, IHC, a listed company at the ADX with huge footprint across the UAE and the world, has become the most valuable holding company in the Middle East and one of world's largest investment firms, with a market capitalisation of Dh876.5 billion. Haldirams, established in 1937, is known for its wide range of Indian snacks, sweets, and ready-to-eat products. Haldirams brand has become synonymous with Indian food. The company pioneered automated manufacturing in traditional snacks and has grown to become one of the largest manufacturers of packaged foods in India with a significant international presence.Syed Basar Shueb, CEO of IHC, said, 'We are excited to join hands with Haldirams, a brand that has set the standard for excellence in the ethnic Indian snacks industry. This investment aligns with Alpha Wave's and IHC's strategy to support leading companies that are making a global impact.'Rick Gerson, Co-founder and Chairman of Alpha Wave Global, praised Haldirams' long-standing reputation, stating, 'Over 90 years, the Agarwal family has built Haldirams into one of the most loved and iconic brands in India. 'With the backing of Alpha Wave Global and IHC, Haldirams is set to leverage the vast expertise and networks of these investors to broaden its footprint in key international markets such as the US and Middle East, while strengthening its footprint and presence further in India,' the statement said.

Americana Restaurants in ‘preliminary' talks to acquire Cravia

SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI) Americana Restaurants International, which operates some of the most recognised restaurant brands in the region such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardee's and Krispy Kreme, is in early talks to acquire a stake in Cravia, a regional food and beverage operator known for brands like Five Guys and Cinnabon. In a stock market filing, the company said: 'Americana Restaurants is in preliminary discussions with Cravia for the purpose of acquiring stake(s) in the company.' The disclosure was signed off by Saqib Muhammad Sabit Awan, Secretary of the Board. The company is dual-listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and the Saudi Stock Exchange, and is jointly owned by Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, and Mohammed Alabbar, the founder of Emaar Properties. Its market capitalisation stands at Dh17.1 billion, according to the latest ADX data. Cravia, a Dubai-based restaurant operator, manages a portfolio that includes Five Guys, Cinnabon, Zaatar w Zeit, Seattle's Best Coffee, and Carvel. If the deal proceeds, it would significantly expand American Restaurants' footprint in the premium casual and fast-casual segments of the dining market across the Middle East. Americana Restaurants International is already the largest out-of-home dining and quick service restaurant operator across 12 countries in the MENA region and Kazakhstan, based on the number of outlets. According to company data, it is a leading master franchisee for several top-tier global brands, including KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardee's, Krispy Kreme, TGIF, Costa Coffee, Baskin Robbins, and Peet's Coffee. The company, which had a landmark IPO in 2022, became the first firm in the region to list simultaneously on both ADX and the Saudi Exchange. With decades of heritage in the food and beverage sector, Americana Restaurants has built a geographically diversified footprint and an extensive restaurant portfolio. Americana Restaurants reported a revenue of $2,20 billion in 2024 with a net profit of $159 million. According to a factsheet on its website, it was running 2,630 restaurants at the end of 2024.

Indian Businesses Lead Surge in New Dubai Chamber Memberships in Q1 2025
Indian companies topped the list of new non-Emirati businesses joining the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in the first quarter of 2025, according to newly released data. A total of 4,543 Indian-owned firms became members, marking a 4.4% year-over-year increase and reinforcing India's position as Dubai's largest foreign business community. The analysis, conducted by Dubai Chamber of Commerce under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, highlights growing international interest in Dubai as a business hub. Pakistan ranked second with 2,154 new companies, followed by Egypt with 1,362. Bangladesh stood out for its rapid growth, recording a 28.5% year-over-year rise with 817 new companies. The United Kingdom, Syria, Jordan, China, Türkiye, and Iraq rounded out the top ten nationalities among new member companies. In terms of business sectors, wholesale and retail trade led the way, accounting for 36.2% of new registrations. Real estate, renting, and business services followed at 35.4%, while construction made up 16.7%. Social and personal services represented 7.7%, and transport, storage, and communications comprised 7.5%.
