TNSTC bus overturns in Madurai, nine injured

Time of India14-06-2025

Madurai: A Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus travelling from Coimbatore to Ramanathapuram via Madurai overturned after hitting a median near Arapalayam around 10:30 pm on Friday, leaving nine people injured, including the driver.
The accident occurred on AA Road when the driver reportedly lost control of the bus (Reg. No. TN 63 N 1919), causing it to hit the median and topple. Of the 25 passengers on board, one suffered a fractured arm, while eight others sustained minor injuries.
Six of the injured, including driver M Lakshmanan, were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital. Three others were treated at Meenakshi Mission Hospital. The conductor, Kalidas, was unharmed.
Police said the bus was recovered using a crane and taken to the Karimedu police station for further investigation. Preliminary findings suggest poor visibility due to inadequate street lighting may have contributed to the crash.
Traffic officials stated that steps would be taken to improve lighting and enhance road safety in the area.

‘Pathetic State': What A Pilot Told YouTuber Gaurav Taneja About Airlines Ignoring Safety Measures

Last Updated: Gaurav Taneja, aka Flying Beast, opened up about the real reasons behind the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad. YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, also known as Flying Beast, lauded the Air India pilots for refusing to fly unsafe aircraft after the unfortunate crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Contrary to this, the ex-pilot revealed that airlines habitually overlooked the safety measures, resulting in such tragic incidents. He ruled out bad weather as one of the significant reasons behind the incident and went on to explain the loopholes of the airlines. In a well-informed video on his YouTube channel, Taneja highlighted the safety standards in the Indian aviation industry while addressing various theories about the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash. He said the dual-engine failure was possibly the only reason the Air India flight crashed. 'In the event of bad weather, the aircraft warns the pilots to either delay takeoff or abort takeoff… A 787 has two radars, one on the left and one on the right. For dispatch, it is necessary for at least one to be functional," he said. He continued, 'If the aircraft has 100 pieces of equipment, the rulebook says that it can function even if 30 of them have failed. For instance, an aircraft can fly safely with even one functional weather radar. This is made to operationally assist the airline," further mentioning, 'Let's go with the theory that one engine failed on the ground and the other failed after takeoff… This theory makes a little sense. But this is extremely rare. I've been researching for so many days, and it still doesn't make full sense." The former commercial pilot also threw light on Boeing's close battle with Airbus and revealed how the duo have been constantly taking ahead the entire fleet. 'Airbus took the lead after the launch of the A320. To compete with them, Boeing unveiled the 737 Max, and decided that pilots can safely fly the aircraft with just a two-hour iPad training," he stated. However, according to Taneja, the airlines often neglect to inform pilots about the MCAS system (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System), a flight control system developed by Boeing, specifically for the 737 MAX aircraft, which was designed to enhance the aircraft's stability and wondered what if a different software issue could have caused the Air India crash. Further, highlighting the safety standards of the airlines, he said, 'A pilot told me that aircraft are in a pathetic state. Remember I told you about the MELs (Minimum Equipment Lists), and that a plane can fly with even one working radar? These snags are quite common. Every flight has snags. But they have a habit of overlooking these snags." Watch the video here: He went on narrating, 'The on-ground engineer will tell you that they are giving a temporary okay, they know, and the airline knows that the snag will appear during the flight. For every snag that happens, a live report goes to the company. The company knows everything. The company is okaying these snags despite knowing about them, and leaving it to the pilot to deal with these snags during the flight," and puts direct blame on the internal conflicts between the internal departments, which ultimately results in such a situation. At least 274 people, including 241 of the 242 onboard the London-bound Air India flight, died when the Dreamliner 787-8 crashed moments after take-off in Ahmedabad. At Tata Motors AGM, Chandrasekaran pays homage to Air India plane crash victims

New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) Tata Motors Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Friday led the management and the company's shareholders in paying homage to the victims of the Air India plane crash by observing a one-minute silence at the company's 80th annual general meeting (AGM) here. Chandrasekaran, who is also chairman of Tata Sons, stated that the Tata Group will miss out its former chairman Ratan Tata, who died last year. This was the first AGM of a Tata Group company that Chandrasekaran has attended since the June 12 plane crash. He had not attended the AGMs of two other group companies -- TCS and TCPL -- which took place earlier this week. Chandrasekaran said: "Going forward, volatility will continue to mark economic cycles -- from widespread geopolitical conflicts, military escalations, the redrawing of supply chains and tariff regimes, to AI and energy transition. Nowhere are all these disruptions visible more than in the automotive sector." "...Now I would like to share a few thoughts. There is a lot to talk about today. First thought I would like us to begin with a moment of silence to honour those who lost their lives, along with all the families and loved ones affected by Air India flight (AI)171 tragedy," he said in his address to the shareholders. The London-bound Air India flight AI-171 carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. All but one on board the plane died along with 29 on the ground when the aircraft smashed into a medical complex in the Meghaninagar area of the city shortly after its take-off. After observing one-minute silence, Chandrasekaran resumed his address and said, "My thoughts are with them, and I know yours are too. "This has been a long and unsettling week for all of us as a nation, as a Group, and at a very human level, navigating an enormous gulf of sorrow, grief and uncertainty all at the same time." The last few months have been full of loss, he said, adding, "Late last year, we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Tata, under whose hand the Group expanded while staying true to its values." "He was a friend and someone whose guidance I sought, whose humanity I admired and whose focus on the importance of details I will always carry with me. He will be dearly missed," the Tata Group Chairman said. Stating that the company's demerging process was underway, he said (post merger) we will be operating as two independent listed companies -- one with commercial vehicles and one with passenger vehicles and JLR -- by the end of this calendar year. "Over the past few years, we have significantly strengthened, streamlined and simplified this business. Each business -- commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and JLR -- are healthy, financially fit and have their own strategy, led by independent management teams," Chandrasekaran said. Taking the three businesses (CV, PV and JLR) together, Tata Motors delivered a strong performance to surpass several earlier milestones, despite a complex macro environment in FY25, he said. On a consolidated basis, the company delivered a record high revenue of ₹ 4,39,695 crore, EBITDA of ₹ 57,649 crore, and record high PBT (before exceptional items) of ₹ 34,330 crore leading to the Tata Motors Group becoming debt free this year, Chandrasekaran said. "I had the opportunity to update Mr. Tata about Tata Motors and the PV business turnaround and growth. He was most pleased as Tata Motors was closest to his heart," he said. The Board has recommended a final dividend of ₹ 6 per ordinary share for FY25 subject to the shareholders' approval at the AGM, he said. "Given the enormous amount of work we have done over the past few years -- from simplifying the businesses to making big strategic bets to strengthening our financial position -- our businesses are structured to not just handle this environment, but to thrive," Chandrasekatran said.
