Navjot Sidhu Slams 'Fool' Michael Vaughan: 'Look At Your Pedestrian Bowlers'
Last Updated:
Navjot Singh Sidhu labeled Michael Vaughan a 'fool' and asked him to take a look at England's 'pedestrian' bowlers in criticism of his predictions on India.
The battle between India and England is heating up both on and off the field. As Shubman Gill and his men took full toll of the hosts' mistake by putting up a solid 359/3 at Stumps on the opening day of the Headingley Test on Friday, it gave the opportunity to Indian pundits to take aim at their English counterparts.
Former opener and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu, in a video uploaded by Star Sports on X, reacted to Vaughan's pre-series predictions that India had come to England to lose. He pointed out the former English skipper's series of incorrect prophecies in the past, including the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the 2025 World Test Championship final, and asked him to take a look at the hosts' 'pedestrian' bowlers.
'Fools grow up without watering," Sidhu said in the video while reading Vaughan's post.
'Michael Vaughan, your predictions, they're always wrong. BGT and then the South Africans are never going to win against Australia. I hope you're not predicting an India win now. Look at your bowling attack. They're pedestrians. Three of the Indian batsmen are stepping out and hitting them like spinners. Boss noise proves nothing. Even a hen, while laying an egg, cackles as if she's laying an asteroid. Stop making noise, do something. There is no suffering that pity will not insult. Man, you're in a pitiable situation," he added.
Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. But the call backfired as Gill (127 not out) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) excelled on a dry surface, propelling India's charge and making a statement on the opening day of the series. Rishabh Pant also stayed until the end with an unbeaten 65.
The inexperienced England bowling attack struggled, apart from Stokes, who managed figures of 2 for 43 from his 16 overs. Chris Woakes, leading the attack in the absence of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson, went wicketless while Brydon Carse could only pick one wicket and Josh Tongue returned empty-handed, too.
With the surface unlikely to get any better for bowling (unless rain changes things), India will hope to put up a score big enough to bowl the hosts out twice.

Gill-Pant-Jaiswal Match Massive Feat By Tendulkar-Dravid-Ganguly With Triple Hundreds
Last Updated: Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal matched a 22-year-old feat by Tendulkar, Dravid, and Ganguly, scoring hundreds at Headingley. India Test skipper Shubman Gill, his deputy Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Saturday, June 21, matched a 22-year-old feat by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and former captains Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, to become the second trio from India to score individual hundreds at the Headingley. The veterans' centuries then paved the way for a huge Indian victory over England, and the next generation of Indian stars' brilliant effort has given their team a potential shot at a famous win. If anything, the centuries from the youngsters were a statement about India's never-drying batting fountain. 23 years back, the centuries by the veterans and India drawing the Test series heralded a new chapter in the nation's cricketing landscape as it started to wash away the tag of tigers at home. But the task that awaits the likes of Jaiswal and Gill is quite different. India are now a side adept at touring, but they need to step into the huge shoes of some stalwarts who made the side a force to reckon with away from home. Having opted to bat first, India lost Virender Sehwag in just the seventh over. Sanjay Bangar and Dravid then built a 170-run partnership for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Andrew Flintoff. Dravid and Tendulkar then added 150 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by Ashley Giles. Tendulkar and skipper Ganguly then built a match-winning 249-run partnership before the latter was bowled by Alex Tudor. India declared their innings on 628/8. England began their first innings well, with Rob Key and Michael Vaughan adding 67 runs for the opening stand before the former was dismissed by Zaheer Khan. Vaughan and Mark Butcher then added 42 runs for the second wicket, before the latter was caught plumb by Anil Kumble. England soon found themselves at 185/7 in the 64th over, before wicketkeeper Alec Stewart and Giles added 70 runs for the eighth wicket. Once the latter was dismissed by Kumble, England folded for 273. The hosts were asked to follow on, and after losing Vaughan in the 10th over, Key and Butcher added 48 runs for the second wicket. After Key was dismissed by Kumble, Butcher and skipper Nasser Hussain added 40 runs for the third wicket. After Butcher was dismissed by Sanjay Bangar, Hussain and John Crawley added 32 runs for the fourth wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Bangar. Hussain and Stewart then built a 117-run partnership before the former was dismissed by Kumble. England soon found themselves at 267/7 in the 95th over, before Giles and Andy Caddick added 32 runs for the eighth wicket. Once Giles was run out by Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh, England folded for 309, slumping to an innings defeat. Sourav Ganguly On Shubman Gill Era: '...Was Never Worried About Indian Cricket'
Sourav Ganguly is confident that Indian cricket will be alright in the new era with Shubman Gill leading a team without Kohli, Sharma and Ashwin. The India-England series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy marks the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket. A Shubman Gill-led team embarks on a tour of England without the legendary Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite the expected challenges of this transition, Sourav Ganguly expressed confidence in India's smooth transition, attributing it to the country's robust domestic structure. 'I was never worried about Indian cricket. There will be someone taking Indian cricket forward. I am not surprised with Yashasvi (Jaiswal) because I rate him as a fantastic batter, he is someone who should play all formats," Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI. Jaiswal has been impressive since the start of his Test career. The left-hander continued his excellent form with a 101-run knock, setting India on course for a substantial first-innings total. He shared a 91-run partnership with fellow opener KL Rahul (42) for the first wicket. 'I am not surprised by Yashasvi's performance because I have seen him play in Australia, the West Indies, and India, hope he keeps on performing like this but Shubman Gill's improvement is commendable. 'Shubman and his batting away from home, I am telling you India has a lot of talent, there are 4-5 players waiting now who, when given a chance, will score runs," Ganguly said. Ganguly acknowledged that replacing someone like Kohli is challenging but praised Gill's quality, especially in the number four slot, which Kohli had made his own. 'Virat is a class player, finding his replacement will take time. But the rest, I wasn't, I was not surprised by what I saw with Shubman. There is too much quality in Indian cricket because of the system, the quality of domestic cricket, leagues, because of the kind of time and money associations put in developing a player," said Ganguly, who has served as the BCCI president in the past. The former India captain also appreciated the change in approach by wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who has managed to curb his natural aggressive instincts. 'Rishabh plays fast bowling well, I didn't like his batting in Australia, he was playing a lot of shots. Yesterday (Friday) he did restrictive batting, he has curtailed his game on his strengths, he is a great player in Tests, and will play all the three formats," Ganguly added. The first Test of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle between the two sides ultimately ended in a tense draw, punctuated by a dramatic final session. His wickets included veterans Angelo Mathews—playing his final Test—and Dinesh Chandimal. Despite the draw, the contest was filled with drama and bold decisions. After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay post-lunch, Bangladesh surprised many by choosing to continue batting rather than declare immediately. Their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, sitting on 96, went on to complete his second century of the match, scoring 109* and propelling Bangladesh to 285/6 declared. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Laxmi Ji Idol For Wealth, Peace & Happiness Luxeartisanship Shop Now Undo However, this delayed declaration cost them valuable overs — they had just 37 to bowl at Sri Lanka instead of nearly 50.
